I love sewing occasion-wear - I don't do it very often, but when I do I like them to feel special. Here are some of the outfits I've made, including what I liked and didn't like about them.
Patterns:
Zadie Jumpsuit - Paper Theory
Lois Dress - Tessuti
Hallon Dress - Paradise Patterns
Zero Waste Gather Dress - Birgitta Helmersson
Ellis Dress - Merchant and Mills
Ravine Dress - Papercut Patterns

Such a great video showing your stunning work. Love how you pointed out what you’re less happy with too. Makes the whole perfectionism side of sewing way less pressurising x

Thanks! I'm trying to be honest about that - it's so disappointing when a make doesn't work out how you hoped, but it's usually helpful regardless!

All of these are lovely!! And your ceremony dress! Swoon! Perfection especially the high neck and the tied lower back - I think in green would be stunning! I’ve been considering buying the zadie pattern. And I think you have officially influenced me!

I love all your dresses, but the Hallon dress is great, love the neck detail so will definitely check that out. You have a gorgeous figure and feel you can pull off most styles ❤

Thank you of showcasing your work!! Everything looks so neat and beautiful made. The Hammons dress I think it looks lovely on you, but Hammons is more chic. So.. maybe a beautiful patterned silk? Or make it a double one. Silk is kind of see trough and when made double it flows more less seetrough. And… you can flip it inside out and you have another dress for the evening 🎉 And maybe a necklash on your back sewed in the dress for more drama. And no my figure doesn’t do this dress so I won’t be making it. But your figure rocks it🎉 Walking foot yes please makes everything a lot easier😂 You lovely formal dress the light one. What a classic and beautiful. So green… and maybe a contrasting our other colour in one of the triangles? Just some ideas. I really love your work and I’m looking forward for your suit

I’m a knitter but have been interested in sewing- probably due to warmer weather. Currently working on my Bellbird button up top while watching. A Common Stitch pattern. Just did a French seam, yay! I agree with you that insides are also important. I’m a bit jealous you have access to Pigeon Wishes buttons. In the US, shipping wouldn’t be worth for just buttons but… Can’t wait to see a green version of your special - getting married- dress. Should look as gorgeous as the nearly white one.

I know what you mean! Though I get quite excited about autumn sewing too 😊 well done on the French seam!!

I love the rust coloured dress on you but then, I am partial to more Autumnal colours! Would the dress you made for the Hampton's wedding perhaps look good in a patterned fabric rather than a single colour? Something as simple as this might make you feel different about this pattern and just a thought as you have the pattern so why waste it. I am really surprised you mentioned you did not have a walking foot. I invested in one and would highly recommend getting one as it makes such a difference. I love all the clothes you make and they always look lovely on you. The idea for the cream linen sounds wonderful and I eagerly wait to see the result. Have a wonderful weekend.

Thanks so much 😊 you might be right about patterned fabric for that dress! I have a walking foot now, but didn't at the time. I always forget though, I need to use it more!!

Rewatching to catch more of the details :) I think you might be right actually about the Lilac wedding guest dress and your body shape. Some of the other dresses with a little structure or drama to them, like the Ellie/Hattie that came after look amazing on you. It looks good, but it doesn't *sing* like some of the others

Yeah I agree! I feel much better in the others too.

Great video with lots of fantastic inspiration,thank you ! For men’s patterns you might like to try the book ‘The Gentleman’s Wardrobe’ by Vanessa Mooncie, lovely patterns and really clear instructions. Also merchant and mills do a nice gilet and wardrobe by me have some good patterns😊

Have really been enjoying your videos! I wondered your opinion since you have made both: I have some checked brushed cotton and I have been dithering about making the ZW Gather dress, or the Ora pinafore from it. Do you think for the ZW it would be too heavy?
@threadandyarn
@threadandyarn 9 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks! I actually think either would work. I haven't make the ZW in anything that heavy, but I've seen others who have. It would be lovely and warm. The Pinafore would perhaps be easier to layer, and wouldn't be as hot, but the ZW sounds so cosy! Depending on the width of your fabric, I'd be tempted to reduce the ZW bodice by an inch or two each side to reduce excess thick fabric. However, difficult to say as the pattern totally depends on the width of fabric available. Both are lovely options ☺️
@buzzi2k
@buzzi2k 9 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! I can't stop thing about the potential cosiness on offer from the ZW in the brushed cotton 😅 I think it's going to have to be the one. I might try with a linen first to see how the size works out. I really liked your version here with the reduced body width. Did you also reduce the skirt panel width, or kept as designed?
@threadandyarn
@threadandyarn 9 ай бұрын
@buzzi2k it does sound like a lovely, cosy option 😀 I kept the skirt the same, and only reduced the bodice. A practice version to test the bodice size sounds like a good idea though!

Selfish comment: if you do find some good mens' patterns, do please let us know. Much as I enjoy watching the general process of people making clothes, the vast majority of the items themselves don't apply to me. Still enjoyed the video though, and all the best, Pete.

Will suggest the channel Tomkat Stitchery, she is making a suit jacket of purple silk dupioni and some shorts and pants for her son for an upcoming family wedding. Hoping it’s helpful, there is a pathetic lack of innovative or even interesting mens patterns out there. Would also suggest the pattern company Wardrobe by Me, they have a bunch of nice mens patterns. Good luck. 👍

Hey Pete, I clone my own clothes and make patterns out of that.. on KZfaq there a lot of ideas how to. And I recommend Marcy Harriers of the handmade Hariels when she makes a copy of his favourite shorts… by the way you don’t have to injure your wardrobe I trace everything.

@@suzannakoning413 Thanks! I must look into that. Trying to build confidence to experiment away from a rigid pattern, but that sounds a good way to learn!
