Sounds like you're going to need to stabilize your seams on the loosely woven fabric -- it is beautiful, by the way. I sometimes just use the selvedges from the fabric, but grosgrain ribbon or twill tape will help. Also use it around the waist seam, the amount of fabric you are using to create the skirt may be somewhat heavy for the bodice, so reinforce that waist. Re: your hips larger than bust, this is normal is called being a female! You have a lovely figure. Re: bias cut drape too revealing. Get a nice body shaper - you don't need it to hold in anything (smile) but it will make the garment feel less revealing. You can line it, but have the lining about 2 inches shorter than the dress. Have fun at the wedding!!!

Wow that fabric is beautiful! The colours are perfect for you. Have you thought about turning your Sicily into a top? The fabric is lovely would be great for you to be able to wear it again. Can't wait to see your finished dress ❤

That's a good idea! It's so soft and the drape of the cowl neck is so lovely, it'd be such a shame not to wear it somehow. P.S. I hope your wedding dress project is going well!

They're all lovely, and some of the patterns are new to me, so I've really enjoyed this video! Thank you for sharing your selection process 😊 I'm sure your hybrid dress will be beautiful and you'll look amazing in it! 😍 As I write this comment, I am in the process of making a dress for a summer wedding I'm attending! I have used my own blocks, rather than a commercial pattern, to create my dress. I have kept the style lines quite simple as the fabric is a Liberty Tana lawn in a glorious print, and I want the fabric to do the talking... So it's a simple two darted bodice with a fairly high sweetheart neckline, a side zip, a full midi length gathered skirt starting at my natural waist, with a side seam pocket on the opposite side to the zip, and elbow length flutter sleeves. I also plan to make a fabric belt to go round the waist, with a round buckle. So as I said, I'm keeping it very simple, but I have high hopes that it will turn out as gorgeous in real life as it is in my head 🤞

Thank you an wow! That's so cool that with your own block you can create an entirely custom dress and it sounds like it's going to be lovely 😊

My best friend is getting married in May. I am making an Amaryllis dress by Le Camélia Rose, wrap dresses are my favourite. For the day after, I'm considering making a Scarlet dress by Clématisse Patterns !

❤ Great content as always. Love the fabric and your ideas for the Kate/Rosy mashup. Interfacing makes so much sense for that bodice and will make it more durable, in my opinion. Paris in late March - seems chilly but perhaps you’re acclimated (I have spent a few March 27th anniversary celebrations in Paris and it was usually sunny but chilly- so there’s that😅). I definitely like your mashup and am busy planning my spring/summer makes- having an early spring this year in Kugenuma Japan. Happy Girls’ Day! Suzanne 😊

Thank you for the tips! Yes, I think it will be chilly and I'm planning on bringing a scarf to drape over my shoulders and my coat just in case. Happy travels in Japan!

So many beautiful options! I recently needed to make a dress to wear to my son's wedding and went through a similar long list to short list process. I eventually chose the Belle Dress by Style Arc and it turned out beautifully. I actually made three different versions to perfect the fit and various hacks before cutting into the precious 'mother of the bride' fabric. They are all perfectly wearable though, so now I have three new dresses that I really love! Good luck with your wedding guest dress project. I'm sure it will turn out beautifully. 💙

Gorgeous fabric! That wrap is heading toward a lantern sleeve. The Millicent wrap dress by style arc has a true lantern sleeve option, I sewed it last summer and found it absolutely perfect for a wedding guest outfit. If you can find a cheap source, underlining your close fitting bodice with silk organza gives really beautiful results. It is extremely strong but adds zero weight, I cannot go back to other options! Also it is totally sheer so sewing is a breeze (don’t need to move markings). PS I sewed up the Brasov top and absolutely love it. PPS have you considered a bias dress in a mid or even heavy-weight fabric? I love a bias slip sewn from a trouser-weight linen. You get all the advantages of the bias but none of the nude feeling…

Ah, thank you for the tip - I forgot that silk organza would work there too! I just found some for a pretty good price and I think it'll work much better than something like a cotton or linen voile. Also, I hadn't thought of making a bias-cut dress with a heavier-weight fabric or linen, that sounds brilliant and now I really want to try it! Thank you for such great advice and inspiration!

Love watching your videos! It was fun to hear your thought process. Such a beautiful fabric & can't wait to see how it turns out. So sorry about your audio/video issues -- that must have been so frustrating! I have always wanted to sew --- i feel both inspired by you, but also intimidated! Hopefully I can find a beginner project to sink my teeth into this year!

Beautiful dresses you showed! And thank you for the french designers, there are so many that i never saw before. Your plans for the Rosie bodice with the floaty skirt sounds fantastic and the fabric is so gorgeous. You mentioned that sometime fabrics are a little fragile like the atelier brunette one. Did you had any issues with this fabric? I have some of their fabrics on my wish list, but i cant find it in Berlin to touch it first. I would like to avoid getting trapped again with one of these, let’s call them trendy fashion fabrics, that are not worth the money and effort to sew them up. Thank you as always :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thank you so much! I haven't started sewing with this fabric yet, but once I do I'll share how it went. The good news is that it doesn't wrinkle as easily as those other fabrics I was thinking of, so that's a good sign and I agree, seeing fabric in person and being able to touch it makes all the difference!

You may want to serge the edges of your pattern pieces before you sew your dress. ❤ It will strengthen your fabric, and the dress will last longer.🧵🪡👗
