I made an inventory list and took a picture of it. Then made an album called rulers. Such a help if I’m out and see one I think I need. I did this after a couple of duplicates. Don’t want to spend $ that way. 😜😜

I use the Command hooks with the metal skinny hook to hang my most used rulers on the side of my cutting table - especially good for hanging a few of the really large squares!

For a future show, walk us through using various rulers. It may be helpful insights to determining when buying a new ruler is necessary and when multi-purposing works fine. I’m a recent newcomer to quilting, and I’m trying to decide where best to spend/invest.

I'm glad that I am not the only one who has multiples of the same item when it comes to crafts. I have set up one sister and one daughter with extra rulers, patterns and fabrics let alone sewing machines. Thanks for your info. I just reorganized my craft room and used 2 gallon bags to sort all my rulers.

I have just purchased a ruler holder. The wooden holder for 5 rulers. Can't wait to use it. I usually just stack them against a box of fabric, this will be better. Thanks! Denise

I love the idea of a ruler inventory. I often find myself with duplicates. I usually gift these to friends who are just learning to quilt. But I love the idea of knowing exactly what I have and where. Thanks so much for sharing.

This is great. As a new quilter, I also record on my inventory what the ruler can be used for; e.g., squaring up HSTs, square in square, economy block, etc. I have so many (I’m a gadget nut) and have overlooked them at times when using them would have simplified the task.

Thank you for the tips and ideas. I keep all my ruler instructions in a plastic file pocket with a hook & loop closure. I also use the ruler racks like yours. I need a better system for my large square rulers (right now there in a file folder storage rack). My small specialty rulers in a clear plastic storage bin with a cover. I'm considering a pretty framed peg board to hang my rulers from. BJ
@lynnslosson59374 жыл бұрын
BJ7481 I did that. I got a foam core that had a pretty frame. I added hooks from the back, and I hang all my rulers on it. It hangs on the wall to the right of my cutting table.

I have found a fabric-covered hanging file folder that can stay on my cutting table. The tabs name the ruler contained in each folder and the instructions are easily stored WITH the ruler. Of course, this works best for rulers or templates 8x10 or smaller.

Thank you Sherri. You mentioned rulers vs templates. I was hoping you'd show what was in the box. I'm not well-versed templates. Maybe I dint really know what you mean by template. Would you do a short video on this?
@2Peachcobler4 жыл бұрын
Mary-Ann Z. Reynolds Think of a template as a pattern that is made out of acrylic so you can use your rotary cutter to cut around it and not damage the pattern. Example you can purchase templates for the Apple-core, Double wedding ring, Log cabin, etc quilts. Specially rulers could maybe be your rulers you use for free motion quilting. Or one of the special rulers might be that ruler that lets you run the rotary cutter through slots.
@susanc28144 жыл бұрын
She also mentioned that templates are something you trace around for cutting out. So, they may be cardboard, etc.

Hi Sherri. Thank you for the ruler storage video I gave a question, about your cutting table. How high is it? How high should a cutting table be. Thank you.
@susanmei99804 жыл бұрын
Juanita Hooker, countertop height is good. Then you don’t have to bend over. I happened to find a wooden tavern table (countertop height) on clearance @ a local Value City Furniture store, a few years ago, for $50. Its 4.5’ x 3’. Plus it has a self storing leaf that makes it 4.5’ sq. Some others have put two ikea dressers back to back and put their cutting mat on top. I wanted to do this, but no ikea here w/in 6 hours. Ck the height on them. But the great thing about the dressers is all those drawers for fabric and ruler storage!
