There's another model 385 by kenmore that has a completely different bobbin arrangement and the stitch type selector on the back under the manual wheel.

I have this exact same machine. I literally bought it 15 years ago and I haven't touched it in more than a decade. I could not remember anything about this machine and I was very intimidated. Your tutorial was super helpful. Thank you.

I have the Kenmore seven series, but it's very similar. Can't get masks here in NYC for Covid19 PPE, so I'm busting out the hepa vac bags and the sewing machine and gonna get my quarantine sewing on! Thanks for the instructional vids and it's on to #2!!

Hi there! At about 8 min in you describe the dials for stitch selecting. My machine did not come with manual and Im trying to figure out how to get those different stitches...like the quilt stitch. I just dont know how to set the dials to achieve it? Can you?

I have the same machine. My Aunt gave it to me before she died. She couldn't find the manual, and couldn't remember how to thread It. I was about to buy a new machine until I saw this video. Thank you. Now maybe the thread will stop breaking because I threaded it wrong. Thank you. I will continue watching.

You are adorbs! I have the same machine and so happy you have this video! Can you tell me how to reposition the needle? Where on the machine do I make the adjustment? I have the manual but I can't find where it says how. I need to move the needle to the right for using zipper foot.

You can always Google the model user manual, and see what it yields. Usually a PDF will pop up. Or contact the service center for a manual as well.

So, I have the same machine but I made a mistake loading the bobbin and I'm hoping you may be able to help me. When I went to load the bobbin I undid the pegs that hold the circle around the thingy that holds the bobbin and everything came out and now I can't load it back in properly. Help! 😩

I have this exact machine. I love mine. I bought it brand new 20 years ago. What I’m wondering is if you know what kind of free motion quilting foot will work for this? In my manual it shows an embroidery foot that looks like a free motion quilt foot but not sure if it’s the same thing. I’m fairly new to sewing and quilting.

Im a mechanic and a wood worker, the tools I use can cause serious injury (or death). I find it funny Im terrified of sewing machines, something about getting a needle through a finger gives me the chills... I need to learn to respect this tool, not fear it 😄

I hate exact same one and I got it from my aunt , Brocken this video helped a lot but I think somethings wrong with the bobbin when I step on the thingy it just hums and nothing moved. Still a very helpful video though!stay safe!!!

This is nearly identical to mine-- which is a Kenmore 14, serial number 385.12714090. I've seen the one you have, here, as 385.15318, or 12814. So there may have been very slight tweaks that meant 2 different models. I am trying to date mine-- we bought it for my mother's either 50th birthday, which was 1983, or her 60th, which was 1993. I have searched everywhere on the Internet and can't find it anywhere. Do you know the year yours came out? They are so nearly alike, that I'm sure that it would give me a clue. TIA!:-)

Hey untwist the black screw next to where you needle is and it will release your needle to replace and change it out. Insert new needle and make sure the flat part of the needle is facing the back and then screen the needle back in. Hope this helps

The lever is at the back, the one you used..it is not to remove the lever foot. The lever foot must have been loose, the nut on the left is what is used for holding or releasing the lever foot.
