How to Make a Bandana 🧵 Easy Sewing Project Tutorial

DIY bandanas! Sew your own from a single square cut of fabric. Stay tuned to the end where I show a few ways to style your bandana scarf. This is a beginner simple sewing project as part of our Learn to Sew in 2020 series with the Brother CS7000i sewing machine.
For this sewing tutorial, I used woven rayon challis fabric (non-stretchy). I would not recommend quilting cotton or stretchy / knit fabric for this project. Choose a lighter weight material such as rayon, cotton voile, or poplin / lawn - something with drape that doesn't wrinkle easily after laundering.

Fabric (square at least 23.5 inches, go bigger if you want the bandana to be more versatile for things like belts or shoulder wraps)
Elmer's Washable School Glue in a fine tip bottle (or pins)

It's a simple Straight Stitch. Stitchlength is up to your own taste.

Not at all. It's not sticky (but should be dry) and doesn't gum up the needle.

Just a general sewing question.. so does it matter is I sew on the wrong or right side? I've made napkins before and sewed the folds on the wrong side.. does it matter?

You can sew on either side, I've noticed a bit of a difference in the aesthetics of how stitching looks on the top vs. bottom but whatever you prefer.

I’d measure the length of how you want it to lay on your head. Maybe add an inch or two to tie it. Then keep in mind that’s how long the diagonal needs to be

You'll sew the folded parts by hand . I suggest using safely pins to keep the sides in place and taking them off as you sew. I've been sewing by hand for eleven years. It gets easier the more you practice.
