i just found this video and have been using the same zap oil in my new engine kinda shocked, taken one look at the sds/ingredients in it and realise it actually contains a componet corrosive to metals, has a shelf life of 1 year in the bottle, let alone in an engine. safe too say i wont be using that again, thanks for the video i would have been pissed too if it all gumed up after a few months

I like to use ATF+4/Chrysler transmission fluid for after run/storage. I used it on a vintage nitro engine that I rarely run now that you can no longer get parts for it about 4 years ago, and about 2 weeks ago that sucker fired right up!

@@thebug4046 no way! I see where people have researched that stuff…now. Wish I would have seen this earlier. I got it started just fine after I cleaned it, but it was hitting 270-280 in no time idling. I could hear it pinging, and the idle was all over the place. As I was sealing everything I found out that stuff got into my new bearings and expanded over time causing air leaks. So, I just decided it was a good time to just rebuild it the right way. That’s absolutely crazy. Their solvent obviously evaporates quick leaving behind their active ingredients as a residue. I’ve seen this happen before testing on the shelf fuel additives for a friend of mine that races sprint cars. I tested them in a lab I work at in the oilfield here in Oklahoma, but I have never seen this..and this is without the harsh conditions I tested the other products in.

@@lancehartzell8327 Yeah man that stuff is really weird I don't know what it's made out of but it like crystallizes and gets really sticky and it's almost impossible to remove it's like some kind of weird varnish or something I had to use some pretty heavy duty chemicals to get rid of it. But like I said when I had talked to the company they basically told me I was an idiot and had absolutely no idea what I was doing and that I should maybe step away from the product and the hobby and that it's not their problem I said do you know what you guys are ridiculous many people have the same issue! Hey guy, agreed that stuff is garbage. Did you rotate the engine while dismantling? Only as i noticed it was stored with the piston up near tdc. leaving your piston even close to tdc cold or in storage no matter what you use, will to some degree lock the engine up and or cause damage. Good nitro engine storage requires or recommends storing your engine at bdc, as the bore is tapered getting more narrow towards the top. Sorry its a long one, thanks for showing this btw I have had trouble with that product as well. All the best guy

I've been using WD40 as after run treatment for years. I've let my engines sit for almost a year and I've never had an issue. I started using WD40 after I ran out of the Great Planes oil I was using and found a big two pack of WD40 at Costco for $7 on sale at the time. Transmission oil is highly detergent but it won't displace moisture.

@thebug404, it's weird that I just picked up an old traxxas nitro sport from ebay and vender told me it was running fine. Once I got it, the engine didn't want to spin by hand. I opened the back plate and saw the same thing, the sleeve piston looked great. But both bearing seized on me. So I am currently working on fixing it up. Trx.15 engine on it. Thanks for all your videos, very very helpful. Can you do a traxxas carb setting on trax.15. I don't know how much screw turning after clean the carb because it seized also. Same stickiness. Hey no problem! and I have lots of pro 15 rebelled videos you can check out I don't use the factory carburetors for the pro 15 as I don't really like them very much but I believe they are flush on the low speed needle idle gap 1mm and then high speed needle 4 turns out from closed. Yeah you cannot start these type of SH engines with the Pole starter removed the one way Shaft will fall out and the connecting rod wall smash the one way bearing and destroy your engine you have to have the Pole starter there if it is slipping remove the starter shaft and lightly deglaze with some 800 grit sandpaper in only 1 spot where the bearing itself sets maybe 2 or 3 quick turns that all Excessive amounts of after an oil also caused them to slip Also trying to start a flooded engine or again an engine with too much after run oil will cause the bearing to slip Also using electric start or drill will cause damage i have other videos on that I do have a group on Facebook nitro/diesel/gas rc and more you can post pictures videos etc. There is a few questions to answer im the owner i will let you in
