The actor that plays Toranaga deserves an Oscar. I felt that death scene in my soul. All of them in that scene were right in the moment. That will stay with me for some time. I hadn't felt that since Ned Stark

The acting from torranaga and hiromatsu are probably some of the best i have EVER seen! In a different language no less. Such devotion to the role. I actually need therapy after this episode and the emotional roller coaster only to find out ALL of the tying connections throughout the entire season. I’m in awe of this show. Thank you for reviewing it sooo incredibly!

Another point for me is the mind changing of Anjin. When he went to the market, the priest stood out to say that Anjin need firewood, while Anjin used the word sumi (charcoal), which is a more advanced vocabulary in Japanese. And while the priest asking about if Anjin is going to wear the robe to see other sailors, the priest was trying to teasing the identity of Anjin himself as a heretic. The attitude while Anjin replied simply told anything. Then to the back ally while Anjin decide to kill the other sailor without feeling any guilty (same attitude as his company that holding a lantern), I was comparing to the episode 1 while Umi chopped off the head of a villager. Somehow Anjin's black inner selfish thought (腹黑, harakuro) was revealed not only by the sailor's questions but also by Anjin's action.

You make some really great points. It was interesting to say the least seeing Blackthorne go that dark & attack his own men. He's spent all season trying to get back to them only to realize he doesn't fit in anywhere anymore. He'll never truly be accepted in Japan even as a Hatamoto & now, he's spent so much time with Toranaga that his own people now seem foreign to him.
@neowuwei7851
@neowuwei7851 Ай бұрын
@@JeremyIceAndFire33 it seems that JB has spent enough time with his Japanese captors that he's now aware of how smelly and brutish his men are and how he once was also. That sailor reminded him of that and also told him those guys would never trust him enough to sail with him again. They've adapted to the easy life of drunken debauchery as prisoners of Toranaga.

No words were spoken, only glances exchanged, Hiromatsu saw the other generals preparing to commit sepuku and took the lead knowing Toronaga needed them more than himself, he knew his role and knew tjat it would have more meaning to both Osaka and thise present

I felt real empathy for Buntaro after his tea ceremony and what Mariko said to him. I believe he's tried to be a good husband, truly loves her and has kept her alive so she could complete the plan her father had for her. Tragic what Hiromatsu felt compelled to do as his last service to his lord. Toranaga has lost a life long friend and confidant. Most intense episode full of emotions. I still can't figure out how Ochiba seems to be so smart, yet also cannot tell who would really protect her son. And it's NOT Ishido.

Don’t rely on Toranaga to protect the Taikō’s heir.
@neowuwei7851
@neowuwei7851 Ай бұрын
@@alesh2275 when he was dying the Taiko asked Toranaga to stay behind and offered him to become regent to protect his heir.Why? Because he was the only one who could be trusted not to kill his son and take over as Shotgun. Toranaga refusing because it would mean his own death so the Taiko revealed his real plan for 5 regents to rule until his son came of age.
@alesh2275
@alesh2275 Ай бұрын
@@neowuwei7851 you got it wrong: The Taikō was never serious about Toranaga being sole Regent. It was a test, a test that Toranaga passed when he refused. In fact the documents that Taikō already had prepared were for 5 Regents. There was no document for Toranaga as sole regent. Also, you’ll be in spoiler territory, but Chapter 61 of the book is Toranaga’s only POV chapter, so you’ll know his real motivations ….

He definitely surprised me in this ep. The scene with kiku too where he's realizing he's not even sure what he's fighting for anymore. This is the downside of Toranaga playing things too close to the chest, it can hurt the morale of his men.

I truly think Toronoga was surprised by his brother's actions. The actor who plays him does such a good job of showing range with his face....you can see it in his eyes. He didnt expect it. Everything that happened after was because Toronoga was forced to pivot.

The one aspect I think doesn't match Toronaga is if he is so smart to plan his friends own sepoku, and always be one step ahead you would think he would be smart enough to know that his son would try to attack his brother just like he went after Jozen. Doesn't seem like it fits his character to miss something like that.

@@Yae_Yae_Agreed. And while his son's death is tragic, it was how he would've wanted to go; helping his father. People forget his son was a warrior who was simply a casualty of war. His death may save lives in addition to helping his clan achieve victory.
