I happen to live in Japan and went to Hirado last week, where the remains of Williams Adams, were left. A beautiful little town, lots of vestige architecture of the trading era still remains to this day..

Great show. The Battle of Sekigahara will probably only be shown as short clips in the last episode. I know There will only be this season, But they should really have made a BIG conclusion with a 2 hour episode or something, show the battle and all the drama during the battle its a EPIC historical piece. But ye the budget for the show is pretty small so we have to take what we can get. Man I hope They make more Japanese Authentic shows like this in the future. Its so cool

I thought this entire series was VERY eloquent and very well thought and filmed. I enjoyed it to the last moment. People probably expected the large battle with Ishido, but you could tell a few episodes in, Toronaga had already gone to battle. Made his sacrifices and won. The true story of what happened at Osaka was different but not much. There was an intellectual battle and an actual attack on the castle. I thought this take on the story of the beginning of the end of the Samurai was 100% intellectual and made for a most excellent miniseries. It was beautifully filmed. The captions well placed so we could see the emotions. I read how long it had taken to make this as particularly crafted as it is and that is no small feat. Time not wasted.

The best series I've watched in many years. Now I watch it over and over again. I got so used to each character that it became a member of my family.

What's great about this script and acting is that Ieyasu's strategic strategies and his fatherly raccoon demeanor are always hidden behind Sanada Toranaga's back as layers. The artistry of this work was enhanced by depicting that era as it was, without relying on the various ideologies that often conflict in modern times. A valuable and wonderful work. However, from the Japanese perspective, ``He made it to the Osaka camp, became the Seii Taishogun, and in both name and reality, Edo became the world's largest urban population and prosperous metropolis, and a world of peace and peace was born.'' I wanted you to do it until then. It's a pity that there is no season 2.

Hopefully nothing happens to Fuji. Anjin needs her now more than ever.

Everyone involved in this show deserves major props. Its so good in so many ways. I hope they are hearing and seeing all the praise they are getting from viewers. It's well deserved. If it gets snubbed for any awards, its because awards are irrelevant, not because they did anything wrong. Honoring the audience and the source material are more important than any of that Hollywood nonsense and its very apparent that their priorities are straight.

I want more series like this. The setting, writing, pacing, acting.. everything is on point. If this doesn't win a ton of awards, Imma be pissed

They're doing a wave of promotion (e.g. Anna being on talk shows) right before the finale. Even the clips they're showing are from episode 9. Pretty odd choice to do a promotion run so late into the season... unless they're cooking something truly special for the finale, like a 2 hour episode or a full blown portrayal of Sekigahara.

This show does the book justice! So good!

It's a shame that this series wasnt givej more than a single season. Clavell's novel has so much kore depth and interesting plots than the series had time to explore.

Anna Sawai just absolutely destroyed episode 9. The tea scene in ep 8 has already been something to behold, but ep9 was just chilling. Great actress.

Sad to know this great show is ending soon but happy to see its success and the desire people have expressed to see more productions like this one, historical accuracy can be appealing, unlike what Hollywood thinks.

I loved (the now dated) eighties original with Richard Chamberlain, but it must be said: the modern retelling of Shōgun is what the word “epic” was coined for. A masterpiece of paced nuanced storytelling with amazing production and a stellar cast. I have been gripped every single episode.

This show is lightning in a bottle, a true masterpiece...

Had no idea who Cosmo Jarvis was, and now believe this dude is an incredible actor!

"Shogun" is one of my favorite novels of all time and I was excited to here of the remake. There were of course a few things that I would have done differently or at least, in a different order but over all, I certainly enjoyed the mini series. I was especially impressed with Anna Sawa's portrayal of Lady Toda Mariko. Her character being very complex and probably being the most important sjngle character of the entire Shogun Saga. That solitary line by Lord Toranaga, " I sent a woman to do, what an entire Army could not" just sums up, just how much of a true badass Lady Toda Mariko was. Hiroyuki Sanada, performance was also spot on especially taking on the role once played by Toshiro Mifune, and would have been an act nearly impossible for many to follow and pull it off but Hiroyuki Sanada found away to do just that and in his own way. I'm actually sorry the mini series has ended.

I am not a Japanese. But I implore you to bring Shogun Season 2 to us!!! #Shogunseason2

Best everything. This show is a masterpiece. So powerful and moving. The writing and acting and every small detail is perfection. The poetry exceptional and the imagery is so smart! God this show is incredible and episode 9 was so painfully beautiful. I was shaking from its many heartbreaking climatic moments all of which are centered around Mariko. Mariko encapsulates fragility and strength all at once. Her loyalty is eternal. Her spirit is forever bound to her everlasting words.

Can't wait to find out who ultimately survives what looks to be a Shogun finale bloodbath. But no matter the outcome, I will be miserable when Shogun ends. I am addicted to Tuesdays with Toranaga.

I really hope they're able to tie this bow beautifully, because there seems to be so much more left to tell in this story.

If this work in Season 1 is modeled on the eve of Sekigahara, I would like them to create "Battle of Sekigahara", the internal conflict after the unification, "Winter Camp" and "Summer Camp" in Season 2. After the novel was finished, Game of Thrones quickly created a script and produced an additional season. It would be a shame if the Shogun ended after season 1. The story gets interesting from now on.

One of the best series of all time! So much love and effort in it, you can feel it in every scene! This is the perfect example how good something can be if you don´t need ESG, DEI, SBI etc!

Spoiler Comment: The ending of the TV show is going to piss alot of people off. In the book, we do not see a "great battle" infact, it's just a monologue from an important character. We'll see someone get buried to their neck, and left to die. If we do see a battle it's going to be very short, and probably just dubbed over with the events that took place. Blackthorne gets royally fucked, my goat Yabushige gets told to kill himself RIP a real one, and Toranaga basically wins without much opposition. People are expecting the final episode to be something absolutely insane, but in all reality it's rather anti-climactic at least in the book, and for the most part the TV show has stayed true to the source material. The only major thing they changed is Blackthorne not being the greatest at japanese, a bit of a pushover, and a nice change of focusing more on the influential women. The ending is going to piss ALOT of people off. I knew going into the show how it'd end, I've read the book. However there are ALOT of comments where people are expecting some Mount and Blade Warband Gekokujo level battles, when in reality there's not anything like that.

This show really captures the essence of a limited series and checks off all the boxes. I think its a breath of fresh air & change from shows dragging things out with filler for 4 seasons for money & the writing is getting rediculous. A good short story encourages the imagination and makes you ask "what happened after?" Or leaves you wanting a season 2. This show captures this period of time & desires of the doomed characters.

So basically, this shows that Blackthorn and some of his accompanying party somehow end up escaping and making it back to reunite with Toronaga. It will be interesting to see what will become of Yabu following what he did in the last episode.

did anyone else feel let down by the ending? I know we weren't expecting some generic big budget battle but I literally spent a whole 10 episodes waiting for a climax that was promised but never came it was all buildup buildup and then boom the show is done. I mean succession is a show all about people talking in rooms but it delivered its climaxes every season! With Shogun its like wait what that's it? like damm bruh i feel like the balloon got filled up and then instead of popping it u just let the air out
