To me, 沢山 does have something to do with "mountain". Though, not in the literal way.. more like "I've got a mountain of..."!

How in the world did you find each of these words in so many games at the same time? You must be remembering dialogues by heart or having an entire game's transcription in a text file. This is insanity

Meanwhile, in 大山 we find not "yama", not "san", not "zan", but SEN. Mount Daisen, that is Mount Great Mountain. Yeah, readings are really qirky at times in Japanese... The sooner you get used to it, the better. Otherwise, you'll be shedding lots of tears in no time 🤭

3:29 Are the pronunciation for 音読み (onyomi) readings typically presented in Katakana rather than Hiragana? Or is it more correct to write them in Katakana since it comes from Chinese?
@shishinonaito
@shishinonaito 4 күн бұрын
Yes. Usually, kunyomi readings are written in hiragana and onyomi in katakana. Incredibly useful when learning the readings of kanji. WARNING: this is ONLY applied to writing the readings of a kanji. When writing actual words, hiragana and katakana follow rules that have nothing to do with how the word is read. Example: 沢山 is read with onyomi, but it is actually written in hiragana, not in katakana, when written in syllabary. This is a general rule for all words with an onyomi reading that are written in syllabary instead of kanji.
