Making a monster universe is hard. Let’s talk about how difficult it was to make the sequels to Cloverfield, from making 10 Cloverfield Lane fit the franchise after the movie was finished, to forcing reshoots into The Cloverfield Paradox and selling it to Netflix.

To basically sum it up. Someone has a good idea for an indi sci Fi horror movie and then Jar Jar Abrams comes around and says "That's a nice movie you got there. Would be a shame if someone was to add a random Cloverfield monster in it." And then does that.

The original premise for Cloverfield Paradox was actually interesting as it was supposed to focus on people in a space station above Earth that watches Earth just disappear.

@@ItWasAShtShow I wholeheartedly believe if they would have slightly tweeked "Life" (made the Captains name Jameson, reworked the ending to line up with the beginning of Venom) this movie could have been a blockbuster and successfully pulled off the Cloverfield Con

We’re finally getting a sequel for the 2008 original and I’m really hyped for it, I love monster films where we get the perspective of civilians caught in the chaos, and it takes a realistic approach of a giant monster attack, it’s also why I love Godzilla 2014.

Terry Southern tells a story about Rip Torn in the 60s, where a studio exec told him 'we need a rip torn type' and Terry suggested the actual Rip Torn, his friend who was looking for work, and the studio said 'no not rip torn. He's difficult. We just need a rip torn type.'

@13:45 it makes all the sense that it was the monster. The tail came out the water as the monster was passing from under the bridge, water dripping off of it, and slams down into the bridge as the monster is yelling in the background.

I think I am the only person I know of who likes the fact that they added the alien stuff at the end. It looked cool, it was well-shot- but more importantly, it is so easy to do that lame 'but what was really happening?! Nobody will ever know! Make your own mind up!' thing. Whatever the reasons behind it, I actually liked the ballsy decision to clearly show what the disaster in the film was about, instead of going for the easier mystery option.

The original ending isn’t vastly different; it’s virtually like for like, just tonally a little different. They report that they filmed scenes to lighten it up; I think that’s a much bigger change. I wonder what the original film was like without the lighter scenes but I don’t really like horror, so it’d probably just make me like it less.

Enjoyable content. You guys have good chemistry and are pretty funny. Plus the failed cloverfield universe is an interesting topic. I for one did not mind the end of cloverfield lane at all. I think it's a really cool idea to be super zoomed in on a small group of people ( Done incredibly well) while only hints of a large-scale invasion are given and then you finally get to see some of it at the end, I think that's cool.

We music heads like to say there's a big difference between an artist and an entertainer. The example usually cited is if you show up to play a gig at the local pub and there's only 3 people in the audience... the artist never considers not playing because they're in it for the love of the game and will give nothing but max heart and soul to those 3 people while the entertainer walks because it's not "worth it." JJ's ambition is clearly to be an entertainer. He's got about as much heart and soul for his projects as a graveyard shift assembly line worker.

If I remember correctly Split’s story about the guy with multiple personalities was originally part of Unbreakable, but Shyamalan removed it ‘cause it messed with the script’s pacing and sat on it for years, so I don’t think it’s fair to compare Split’s planned ending to what happened to The Cellar.

I remember getting so sucked in by the first Cloverfield trailer & all the online arg-type promotion. It was a really cool way of promoting the movie. I scare easy so this movie wouldn't have been on my "to see" list but because of the vague trailer I was sold. When I finally saw it I was impressed. I actually didn't even think about a sequel until people online started really getting into the end footage from the movie. I have yet to see 10 Cloverfield Ln because I know it's not a true Cloverfield movie(I really should) & I DID end up watching Cloverfield Paradox. Paradox was SHIT. It was confusing and such a kick in the pants to all the fans of the Cloverfield monster. They showed it for a second and that was it. I'm pissed we will never get a true sequel thanks to J.J. Abrams shenanagins.

On Super Bowl Sunday in 2018, I decided not to watch the game and spent the evening watching “The Founder” and “The Cloverfield Paradox” on Netflix; one of those movies was excellent, and the other one had worms exploding out of a guy’s torso with no explanation as to why they were in there.

This whole "review" felt extremely negative and mean-spirited for no reason. While there's plenty of plot holes in the Cloverfield Universe, there's a glaring lack of information in some of your criticisms (specially when it comes to referring about the "original" monster appearing in The Cloverfield Paradox, that's just flat out wrong). I just don't understand the point in "reviewing" films without properly informing yourselves or even watch the actual movies, neither the fact that you kept insulting fans of the movies calling them huge nerds every two seconds. I don't even like the franchise that much but I believe there's a glaring difference between constructive criticism and just flat out ranting for an hour about a movie you haven't seen and calling it a podcast
@ItWasAShtShow
@ItWasAShtShow 6 ай бұрын
First, at no point do we ever say that this is a review. It is a history of what happened during production. And if you went through the whole podcast and didn’t get that? I don’t know how to help you. Second, we do give our opinions on said movies. And we are allowed too. You do not have to defend Paradox. Us disliking it does not negate you enjoying it. Even if this was a review, our opinions are neither right, nor wrong. They are just simply that: opinions. You either agree or you don’t.
@tyagirodriguez4947

@@ItWasAShtShow First off, I used the wrong review between brackets, just to use a word to refer to this. Also there is a very real difference between expressing opinions and trashing something with an utter lack of information. I agree that I don't need to defend Paradox, I wasn't. I was pointing out the fact that you refer to the monster at the end of Paradox as the same one in the Cloverfield movie when that is simply wrong.
