When I traveled to japan I found that the really high quality places don't serve a large enough portion for an american. I made up with by buying and comparing 2 dishes. In every case, the experience made the cost difference worthwhile. If you go to japan and want fancy, you're going to pay for it. However, there was a really nice place in Shibuya that had an excellent wagyu meal where you cooked your own and it had a ton of sides plus literally the best sushi I've ever eaten (and it was wagyu sushi at that) for only 60k yen. I just spotted it on accident, but the meal and the experience for $60 was better than my $400 Kobe beef restaurant. Don't be afraid to try those random places you find in tokyo- no one stays in business without being great.

I don't know how I could have missed this video last year! I always want the same foods everytime I see you eating, Mikey Chen (esp, pho and noodles). In this video, the scrambled egg...omg! I've never had what you did, but the style it's cooked? Perfect! When I was in Jr. High my mother made me eggs and oyster sauce(in a big wok) over rice, in a hurry for me to catch my bus, and she made the eggs just like that, completely by accident. I was in love with my breakfast! Your food made me miss those days. I just wanted to share that memory. And now I am caught up with your most recent return trip to Japan. I look forward to more videos after the virus crisis. Stay safe.

Dipping beef in raw eggs feels weired in the first time but It was actually very good. The best of this restaurant is that you don't have to cook but you can just eat what the server makes in front of you. Definitely recommend.

When we make sukiyaki we use water, soy sauce and sugar. But we cook the meat first in the pan, then add the sauce, then once that’s boiling we add the veggies. (Tofu, onions, bean threads and Napa cabbage) soooooo delish 😋

Shabu shabu taste greatly depends on the quality of the meat. Sukiyaki on the other hand, tastes great even with cheaper meat. So unless you can afford those $60-$100 A5 meat, sukiyaki is better for the general public.

it is actually funny how Mikey, like most Americans wants more food for their buck ... but how Europe wants more quality and experience ... either of those meals would be a full dinner ... and the waitress actually cooking the meal makes certain it is done right and allows one to enjoy the food experience without worrying about having to make your food ...a great way to enjoy a vacation or even a night out.
@FecalMatador

0623kaboom But he’s in Asia. Europe has nothing to do with this lmao. Also, everyon likes cheap food, not just Americans. That’s why street vendors are huge in almost every country, especially Japan. Japan has a lot of cheap eats on the street. But yeah. People like Mikey expect a lot of food if you’re paying over $100 for just one person
@DAAraiz
@DAAraiz 6 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of Americans myself included just think quantity AND quality is better than either separately and also not asking too much of our prosperous modern cultures also few things are more comforting than a belly FULL of good food and fancy looks nice but if you’re paying a lot for it I’d sooner eat something cheaper but more filling for example a big bowl of good ramen instead of a filet mignon with three sticks of asparagus arranged all artistically
