@@Tom-sd2vi I disagree. I think most of the bad things from release(especially microtransactions) are gone and what remains is a sequel that improves so much on the first game. I too, loved the stealth system. I don't like slower paced stealth, but games like Dishonored let you see through walls and blink/teleport to speed up the stealth mechanics, as does Shadow of Mordor once you get that arrow based stealth kill ability. Also, stealthily crouch running is still quite fast in Mordor.

I actually liked the stealth a lot for several reasons. It is pretty forgiving, like, you can approach an enemy from the front and stealth-stab him into the face without raising an alarm. Also movement is pretty fluid, so it doesn't feel like it is slowing me down too much. And later there are some skills that make stealth even easier. ALl in all it was a nice variation in the gameplay loop.

Love this game but what keeps it from being an all time classic are the lack of boss fights, the over tutorializing, and the lack of difficulty options. It's a blast to play otherwise. After your 1st playthrough you'll know how to learn the moves and master the game to a point where the enemies offer no challenge like halfway through and there aren't any interesting bosses to make use of your skills. And the game has so many hidden tutorial missions that slow down the pace to almost a halt when you have to follow a character and do exactly what they say. It was hilarious but annoying when I unlocked the Caragor domniation skill hours before and was using it but had to do the tutorial for it with the hunter later. I love it but it could have been so easily tweaked to skip certain missions on replays and increase difficulty with a patch.

You can definitely make it harder via the options. Turning off the counter prompts (both visual and audio) makes it much more challenging. I also did a run where I only gave myself a few skill points, I think it was 5 or 6 other than the plot essential ones. Really changes the game!

I have a similar feeling with a particular Uruk I ran into in Shadow of Mordor as Ushgol. His name I believe was Kugo the Prickler. He was a spear-thrower... And his spears were poisoned. And he couldn't be vaulted over and very often would just sit fifty feet away hurling spears at me whilst I'm in a sea of Uruks, unable to really fight him. I had to run away many times. I think I ended up killing him like three or four times. So not only would he poison me, kill me and taunt me. He'd also cheat death, repeatedly. Needless to say he was infuriating. But it felt good every time I killed him.

I remember having a captain who the only way I managed to actually defeat him to repeatedly use wrath stun to stun lock him and build up the combo meter to increase the damage of wrath blast and whittle him down, only reliable way to do damage to him.

I never quite finished Shadow of Mordor, but I got very far. The game looked unbelievable on the PS4 in 2014. I remember about halfway through the game you fight a boss that took me about 10 tries to beat. The guy who you have to be in order to get to the green grassy part of the map

Free-form combat was created by Ubisoft long before Assassin's Creed. I remember something like this being one of the main selling points for Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, back in 2004. And the combad there seemed really good and refined for the time. So basically Ubi and WB both were using similar systems for Prince/Assassin and Batman/Mordor.

My biggest issue with this game is that the first area felt like a long tutorial, as the game walks you through eliminating all of the warchiefs. Once I got into the second area I was excited to see the entire game open up, but there was just that one zone left. There was no incentive to replay the first zone, so the game just left me feeling a bit empty. Second game had big issues, but the expansiveness of the world felt much better to work in.

I would like to see that follow-up video about Shadow of War, though I have a few ideas about why it wasn't so well-received myself as well. EDIT: I actually loved riding the caragors. Sneaking around on one and jumping orcs and letting the beast gnaw on him was one of my favourite pass-times in the game. And the same goes for stealth, I played everything I could in stealth, but then I do that in all games where I can do that just because I like it better that way.

I love shadow of war and would love too see your thoughts. I think it is unfairly criticized for many issues that only come about by being a critic(rushing through game among other things). I think overall its a complete improvement over morder and deserves more praise

I'm a fan of this universe (LORs) and I agree that this particular game really carried the spirit of the stories. Though, I like the 2nd game a lot, this one just had a more immersive feel about it. BTW, I would like for you to do a video on Shadow of War 😊

Shadow of War is pretty much SoM ramped up to ten. It has its problems, but it improves on a lot of things from Mordor. Now that the MTs are gone from that game , I'd really love to hear your thoughts on it.

My (maybe not when I got to the very end) nemesis was one of those random dudes who killed me once and built himself up. He was first known as Shaka (or similar) and, while I don't remember all the details anymore, was really-moderately tough to kill. I finally kill him and he is revived as Shaka the Undying. At this time I have less of a struggle to kill him, but would always come back. No matter the kill type, he'd come back. I know I lobed his head of and he came back. It got to the point that his face was so fucked up he came back with rags wrapped around his head. I can't recall if he was the one to come back in the end and so war, but I definitely remember him the most. Gods, I want to play that again. Need some necromancy so I can have Shaka back. Lmao.

I actually really liked Shadow of War.. It had its flaws sure (especially at launch with the lootboxes they added) but it was still an amazing game and the nemesis system was perfected and never been done like it since (which is sad) Nowadays they totally removed the lootboxes and microtransactions (which almost no one ever used btw) and the game has improved significantly.

I would really like a breakdown of Shadow of War. I was hyped when it came out and I really liked the sieges but I felt like it went on way too long. It also felt like they nerfed Talion because you can't have every type of upgrade on like you could in shadow of mordor. I still enjoyed it though

Awesome video as ever Luke 😁 like always I continue to tremendously thoroughly enjoy the way in which you go through and give a structured & well-balanced analysis/argument while also taking the time to further explain and justify your reasons for your opinions and conclusions. Admittedly besides being a big fan of Peter Jackson's LOTR films along with the fact that the game was being likened to being LOTR + Assassin's Creeds parkour + Batman's free-flow combat + the Nemesis system = Shadow of Mordor piqued my interest back when this game was being teased and showcased. Mandated or forced stealth sections in action games absolutely suck!

The director of Dragon Age and Baldur's gate that left Bioware recently, has just come out with his own studio; Summerfall Studios. And they're crowd funding their first game. And I was wondering if you've heard of it because, well the game is actually a choice based musical! We've all heard before of your love for musicals, so I would actually love to hear your opinion about the concept. So far it seems like a great start, but they need some backup. They got some amazing people working on it too!

I agree that the stealth in Shadow of Mordor is just there, but the stealth in the Arkham games is crucial and lots of fun. Stealth is needed in the Arkham games, and is my go to play style in them, though I dont mind the stealth in Shadow of Mordor.

One of the most interesting things about the game is it's almost complete lack of any ludo-narrative dissonance, even dying feels right in the game and given the story it even makes perfect sense for Talion to take time and perform all the side quests. Hell even getting killed by a grunt feels legit😂

I think the perfect match for the nemesis system would be the matrix franchise, which warner brothers has the rights too, they will prob bring it back eventually for a series or something just to make money, but a game with the nemesis system would be amazing.
