Hey guys, I just found out that UMG claimed a section of this video wherein I'm showing off a record-player that is playing a song from the Platters that mirrors a similar moment in Arkham City. As a result, they are claiming all ad-revenue for this video and seem to have placed a plethora of ads on the video. I have filed a dispute which means that YT is holding the ad revenue until the review process is complete. Once it is, the collected revenue will be given to the party that is deemed correct in the dispute (hopefully, this will be me). A pretty cool detail in the fear toxin diner scene is if you don’t kill anyone, later in the game the cops will comment on how he didn’t kill anyone and I thought that was a neat detail. Edit: If you kill people the cops will say that “he’ll lose his badge for sure”. Also Joker sings “only you” to Batman.

I also recommend you watch "Every Easter Egg In Arckham Knight" from the youtube channel "Batman Arckham Videos" because I consider the HUGE amount of Easter Eggs as an important part of your experience if you are a hardcore Batman Fan as I believe you are.

The main story isn't the best but as a whole package it has so many great moments.

Joker sings to Batman! Right before Joker starts singing during the credits, you hear "You have One voice message" , just like with the rest of the calls joker leaves for you in the game!

I think the biggest thing that resulted in the lower quality of this game when compared to asylum and city is that Paul Dini, the main writer of those two games, did not return for this one.

Arkham Knight will forever remain as one of my favourite games. Not only is it still one of the best looking games out there, but the gameplay itself is as close as you can get to the ultimate Batman experience. Thank you for giving it a critique! If I could throw a recommendation of my own, I would love if you decided to critique the Bioshock series. Edit: I know Luke did a ‘’mini analysis” on it before, but I’d love a full scale critique. Especially because I recently completed the series.

To be honest, the one thing I was more mad about the game other than the overflowing tank gameplay is that Deathstroke was in the game, but was inside a freaking tank. Arkham Origins is my least favorite game of the series as well, but one of the things they nailed is that Deathstroke fight. We should have gotten a better version of that in Arkham Knight. If WB Montreal was able to do that, then imagine Rocksteady.

I love this game I'm sorry. I love it. It isn't perfect, it isn't Arkham Asylum, it definitely isn't Arkham City but it's still good

My main issues with this game - WAY too many drone fights....took me away from feeling I was Batman - WAY too much Batmobile reliance - Same basic plot as Arkham City - DLC episodes pack was poor (the Bat Girl DLC was passable) - The Arkham Knight being obviously Jason Todd - Streets being empty of normal people (AGAIN)

They didn't just spend a fortune on the Batmobile. They resigned the entire city to work with the Batmobile. The streets in Arkham City weren't wide enough so they had to design the city with the Batmobile in mind. So they spent a ton of time and money on the car itself, the city for the car to fit in and the missions and Riddler puzzles that required the Batmobile. That's gotta be 70% of the budget spent on Batmobile related gameplay. There was no way they could change it after that.

That opening scene where you take control of the cop makes me want a game set in Gotham where you just play as a regular policeman. The aesthetic of the diner and the rainy street is so damn good, Gotham from a normal streetview would probably be a pretty cool map to explore. Maybe you could work your way up from a beat cop to a detective and encounter more of Batman's rogues gallery as the story progresses. Something L.A. Noire-ish, only this time they actually flesh out the open world.

Wonderful way to spend an hour and 20 mins watching from start to finish. Appreciate the deep dives into these games man, genuinely appreciate the hard work !

Honestly, the lowest point of Knight was the stealth tank sections.

I think the Akrkham Knight used unmanned tanks and drones to get Batman at his best. He didn't want Batman to hold back. If there had been people in them he would have avoided combat. But because they were empty Batman went out of his way to fight as hard as he could. This means he'll get hurt/die or at least get tired and distracted. That's what AK meant buy "push him to his limit".

Batman: Arkham Knight is a beautiful mess, it aims high and is very ambitious narratively and thematically but the execution of said narrative is all over the place as it's trying to juggle way too many storylines (even for a video game) to the point where the pacing often feels rushed and many of the Arkham City set-ups are glossed over/forgotten about, and the game just wants to you to figure out the twist and no Arkham Knight is not a new character him being called AK doesn't mean his new so yeah Dini's abcense as a writer is defintely felt. Still Arkham Knight is a well-made game the graphical fedilety is incredible and the game is just breathtaking visually easily the best graphics in the Arkham games and in one of the best in the current gen, the combat is better and smoother than ever, and I love phycological struggle between Batman and Joker yes even dead, Joker takes a major plot point in an Arkham game but it feeds into Batman overall arcs, yes Batman finally has a full well-realized arc in the series and the emotinal moments are the best here (also does anyone notice there's more humor in this game compared to others it's still dark and serious but there's more humor especially with the GCPD cops and Joker's meta one liners and sequences). In conclusion I'd say it's the weakest of the series even weaker than Origins but still an impressive achievement even if it wasn't the most satisfying finale for this great series.

The fear toxin affects what Batman sees. I turned on detective mode and I saw it say Barbara Gordon deceased. It didn’t actually say that because she was not actually there but Batman saw that cause the fear toxin

I actually bought the game within the first few hours of release (before it was taken off of Steam). Started it up, noticed how badly it was running, but kept playing anyway. Still enjoyed the story and new gameplay features on 20 fps. A few weeks later, after the second release date, I opened up my Steam account and to my surprise found that rocksteady had given me a free copy of every Arkham game (including the 2D blackgate game), all of them game if the year editions. And I believe they did so for everyone who bought it that early. A generous compensation and another reason I respect WB/Rocksteady. For making a great gaming series and handling the bad port situation a lot better than Ubisoft with their AC Unity blunder.

Scarecrow was a truly wonderful villain, and most players missed the philosophy of his character and his intentions. Some of his monologues were really deep and thought provoking, but they were hid behind a generic "evil bad guy with spooky voice and edgy design". John Noble is a great voice actor

Oh Luke you got it so wrong, I thought it was very plain and simple. Batman was becoming Joker. His fear was him becoming Joker. And he became Joker before scarecrow injected him with fear toxin. So essentially Joker was injected with the fear toxin not and what does joker fear ? Being forgotten and Batman himself. Batman becomes joker, joker is killed by Batman in his own mind due to the toxin and Bruce is back and he no longer is afraid. It's crazy and I haven't gotten over it even after 4 years.

The opening with the joker laughing is legit horrific

Whilst Barbra's 'death' was indeed predictable, Batman not being able to use detective vision to confirm if she was actually dead isn't a pothole, in Arkham Asylum when he first gets infected with the fear toxin, he is unable to see that the dead body he saw as Gordon was not Gordon at all and just an Asylum Guard

The enemy is Scarecrow...no wait is the arkham knight...no wait is the joker...no wait is really the arkham knight...oh yes it was really the joker all along...is the game finished? Like no wait ho is this an end anyway?...oh no right you have to do 100 riddle to get the REAL ENDING...sooo the game is basically made for batmobile?.

What's interesting is the fact that detective mode "confirms" that Barbara was deceased. That really threw me off. So the fear toxin even fools the DM.

The only things that bummed me were: A) obvious Jason Todd foreshadowing, who, I remind everyone, had not been mentioned in the franchise at this point B) Ambiguous ending: when you end a franchise of this magnitude, you cannot take a cliffhanger ending. Either Bruce dies, or he doesn’t; if he has a successor, Show us who it is. C) Azrael and Hush, two plot threads set up in Arkham City; as well as Ra’s disappearance, being answered via side quests and a DLC, and not in the story proper. Not to mention Calendar Man, Croc, and Solomon Grundy being swept under the rug. D) not having Jason Todd’s origin feature the League Of Assassins, which frankly makes more sense than the story here E) The Batmobile of course. It’s better now that I’m replaying it and seeing it through a fresh set of eyes, but it’s still kind of lame. F) Deathstroke’s terrible boss battle Arkham Knight is amazing though. Great gameplay, good story, fantastic visuals. Even having the goons be smarter AIs and covering each other was very clever, given they are a militia and not just random street thugs. Also: Rocksteady totally acknowledges Origins. Origins is repeatedly acknowledged in Knight. You can find the villains’ gear in the GCPD lockup, you can hear thug dialogue referencing events from the game, and Firefly and Deathstroke reference their Origins appearances, have the same voice actors, and similar designs.

The Arkham Knight says at the beginning of the game that the drones are unmanned so that they are not afraid of Batman. Batman's strongest feature is his ability to instill fear into criminals. By having the drones be remote-controlled they are more able to persist against Batman's might.

Actually, there are few seeds planted throughout the game that the Bat-Tank is uncharacteristic of Batman as people know him. Of course you hear the thugs saying stuff like "he has a friggin tank now??" throughout the game. But the biggest clue is, I think, in one of the random lines Joker says, when you find him on a rooftop. He says something like it's as if someone was whispering in Batman's ear, while he was drawing up the plans for the car, implying that it was the Joker's blood in him telling him to build, what is essentially, a killing machine. I think there may have been some line from Lucius Fox, questioning the design, as well. So when people say that driving around in a tank doesn't fit Batman, that's exactly the point: It ISN'T Batman, but the Joker. It's super subtle so I'm not surprised most missed it. Rocksteady basically sacrificed the integrity of the expected Batman experience for the sake of the story. I for one, after figuring it out, was able to forgive all the tank stuff because of how genius it was narrative-wise. Still, that is not to say that the decision to put story ahead of such a major part of the gameplay experience isn't questionable, to say the least.

At 35:00, when scarecrow injects joker/Batman, because joker is in control, it shows jokers worst fear, which is being forgotten, which leads Batman to be able to take control again

I quite heavily disagree about the "Fear Takedown" and it's implementation. I've played the game through on the hardest difficulty and I think that people are right that it undermines the Predator sections and makes them much less satisfying than in previous games, including Origins. The basic problem isn't so much difficulty, it's that it's an overpowered tool and the developers were clearly aware of that so had to make clunky decisions to accommodate for it, when it's fully upgraded you can take out, what, 6 enemies in one go? It has very low cost to use, all you need to do is get into a position where you could pull off a regular stealth takedown, and even if its not particularly good positioning on your part you can still erase like half a room. It doesn't even need to be charged up initially for each encounter and for every subsequent use you only need one silent takedown to charge up. To try to deal with this the devs had to add way more goons for the stealth encounters, I think later ones have up to twelves enemies or more, which is way higher than the previous games. Because of that, non-fear takedowns are way less usable since it means that the entire encounter is stretched out tediously long, but Fear takedowns themselves don't really expect much by way of clever positioning from the player, quite the contrary you can get away with ridiculous stuff where most of the enemies are crowded around someones body and you can just blunder in and take them all out. The end result is that you have this win button you can hammer at almost any time and the previous games's priorities of isolating and manipulating enemies while being extremely mindful of ways to use the environment and their increasing fear to tip the odds in your favour (IE, behaving like Batman) are degraded, Fear takedowns are usually the objectively best option, so why not use it? I'm not sure how to fix this, I really think it's just a fundamentally bad mechanic, I remember Rich Evans of Redlettermedia suggested that the charge mechanic be much harsher, with it not available when an encounter starts and it only becoming an option as the enemies fear rises, with the rationale being that when you can use it that it's mostly to clean up remaining enemies when they are shitting their pants and unable to think straight and react logically, that would seem like a better idea than throwing it out near the start of each encounter to decimate the enemy right off the bat.

It could of been titled “Arkham fear” 😂

Origins was acknowledged in Arkham Knight in a few ways.. in the Evidence room area of the GCPD the evidence for Anarky (who only appeared on Origins), Black Mask had stuff read on them about event that happened in Origins and they had the shock gloves on display from Origins as well.. and Firefly had references when he popped up about how Batman defeated him before... and finally the credits thank the Origin's developer Warner Montreal for the help in the series (even before the later Batgirl DLC the team did for Rocksteady)

I enjoyed the Batmobile. The vehicle combat feels solid and well polished. I would just have fewer tank moments. Batman using it against the cloudburst makes sense. Having two or three tank battles with the Batmobile would be awesome.

Great video! I was one of the few who pre-ordered the game on PC and played it all the way through to the end in its broken state, then played through again once it was re released on steam and (somewhat) optimized. It was awful, but I still love the game. The game play physics and graphics are at their evolutionary peak, as is the story and Arkham franchise. It's poetic for the franchise to end on a high note right along side with its super refined combat, stealth and graphics. This franchise came along way over the years.

Denethor as the voice of Scarecrow was amazing. John Noble plays crazy well. I enjoy this game a lot.
