Also another reason why Tails kept his voice actress from the games is because child voice actors can have their voice become deeper due to puberty like out of the blue. It would've probably lead to them having to change the actor in the expected 4 year gap between Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. Just look at a show like The Amazing World Of Gumball where child VAs are used for Gumball and Darwin. Those 2 have both had over 3 voice actors in the last 8 years. If they wanted to market a child-voice actor like Young Sheldon, there's no guarantee he'd sound the same when they're recording for Sonic 3.

I have never seen anyone talk about how different Kirk Thornton sounds as shadow in Sonic Forces. The voice direction for him sounds wayyyy better than boom and stuff.

Personally I want someone who captures David and Jason’s cool attitude whilst still sounding genuine and not try hard like Kirk.

They needed an adult woman who could play a young boy, Tails, and have people hear Tails. That demands a talented voice actor - and they had one on hand. Voice actors deserve more respect, so Colleen getting on the poster was AMAZING.

I've been familiar with people saying Shadow should be voiced by Keanu Reeves or Robert Pattinson and I wasn't entirely sure about it, but after seeing this and the short demonstrations of what that could be like, I'm fully on board for either of them to voice the character!

I personally think it should be Liam Neeson, like his exact “Wanted” voice. It would be so badass to hear him say “You will be nothing but a stain under my boot you fake hedgehog.”

Ben has experience doing voice acting, he already had the skills to do a good job. People don’t like face actors doing acting roles because half the time it’s wooden because they haven’t developed the skills to voice act.

I really hope that they fix Shadow's character. For the past few years, he has been basicially an edgy "badass". I hope that he is multilayered like his first appearance, and that he remains a villain for more than one movie. Take a little longer to redeem him, make him interesting again.

7:34 I think the reason people got mad over stuff like Chris Pratt voicing Mario but excited for Idris Elba was because of how the voice actors fit the characters. People hated the idea of Pratt voicing a character like Mario because Mario (specifically, Charles Martinet’s version of the character) is a fun, happy go lucky character with a somewhat high pitched Italian accent, not only is Chris’s voice much more brash and low, but he claims he won’t have an Italian accent for the movie. So for a lot of people, trying to to imagine Chris’s voice coming from Mario felt unnatural and jarring. Contrast this with other cast members of the Mario movie, for example, Jack Black as Bowser, or Charlie Day as Luigi. Charlie can have a high pitched voice and has plenty of great freak out moments in Always Sunny, so it’s not hard to see why the execs and casting director would cast him as the cowardly, easy to scare Luigi. Jack black is a bit more of a stretch, admittedly, but he’s known for playing his characters in a hammy, chaotic and over the top manner at times, so I can easily imagine him giving a gloriously hammy, over the top cartoon villain performance for Bowser. Going back to the Sonic movie, I think people liked the idea of Idris Elba as Knuckles not only because he’s a celebrity everyone likes (though that was probably a big reason for the paramount execs, no doubt) but because Idris has played stoic tough guys in the past, like the titular detective of the show Luther, Heimdall in the MCU, Stacker Pentecost in Pacific Rim etc. So despite not being the original voice actor, him voicing the tough, stoic and proud Echidna warrior Knuckles felt surprisingly natural. I’m all for video game and cartoon voice actors getting the credit they deserve from Hollywood and given the chance to voice their characters on the big screen. Yet at the same time, I think I could get behind a celebrity casting as long as they’re able to embody the spirit of the characters they’re voicing, instead of just being put there only so the studio could slap a popular name on the poster and sell more tickets.

I really don’t get the whole “if the voice is different from what I remember fondly it’s bad” mentality. Especially with a series like Sonic that has such inconsistent voice work. I personally think it’s super cool to see new portrayals of my favorite characters. And as an aspiring voice actor, I know just how much passion goes into a character you’re portraying. To voice act properly, you must practically become your character. Ben Schwartz has as much of an intimate connection to Sonic as Roger, Jason, or Ryan. And to see fans on Twitter get butthurt about new VAs is just childish.

Seriously hoping that Robert Pattinson is chosen for Shadow, he would be perfect for the role.

I see Cindy Robinson returning as Amy. Part of the reason I suspect we will still get lesser name actors is it gives flexibility with this movie brand. Most of the cast is cheap enough that I expect them to show up in the Knuckles show.

I honestly wouldn't mind if Paramount took a page out of the video game's book and allowed Shadow to be voiced by Sonic's voice actor. Ben has more range than people give him credit for. I'd love to hear his version of Shadow The Hedgehog. Judging from how active he's been in other projects such as the new animated shorts its a no brainer. Its a little unnecessary to add a big name actor to play Shadow.

Personally, I think Adam Driver would be a perfect fit for Shadow.

I’d either go with Keanu Reeves(considering that it would connect with how one of Movir Sonic’s favorite films is Speed)Adam Driver, and most interesting of all Robert Pattinson .

At this point to be honest, I just hope it’s at least someone who’s familiar with doing voice acting work, or given good voice direction. I personally feel that Robert Patterson does a great job (he even sounds a little bit like David Humphrey’s iteration!!!) As long as he can do great shouts/screams/yells and tries to understand the character he is lending his voice to, I’d be down for Patterson in terms of celebrity voice the most. Next choice would be Keanu.

Robert Pattinson he’s already played an emo vampire so an emo hedgehog would be perfect, and also my sister would go CRAZY if he was casted. As for Keanu Reeves I think he would make a better Espio than Shadow.

i think robert pattinson would be honestly pretty perfect in comparison to shadow’s previous voices and he’s my favorite pick because he’s a bit of a nerd and would probably have a lot of fun with the role and i could see him playing off the cast really well, but keanu would be great for a more effortlessly edgy sort of take on shadow. either way the newest rival and focus of the next film is almost guaranteed to be a hollywood stunt cast, i just hope it’s a good one.

Personally, regardless of WHO they cast, I feel pretty confident it'll be the right choice. I couldn't have possibly imagined Ben Shwartz as Sonic or Idris Elba as Knuckles before these movies came out, but both actors blew me away with their performances. I trust these filmmakers to cast someone that fits the role, whether that's a returning voice actor or a celebrity.

Honestly I'm fine with the whole Shadow being voiced by a celeberty, but I think they should do it like how they did with Knuckles because Idris Elba was perfect casting.

I want Jason Griffith, he perfected Shadow’s voice and was the best Shadow voice actor by far.

We forget that Shadow was just a frustrated and confused character, hence Humphrey's calm and soft spoken voice was what I believe to be Shadow's best portrayal. Keanu does nail the role for a much cooler and badass brooding character, however, this is not how Shadow started off. To me, Robert sounds very similar to Humphrey, he has that same calm and broken timbre in his voice that suits a lost character trying to find his way.

Kirk Thornton's Shadow voice has actually gotten a lot better in recent years. Even in Sonic Boom, the difference between how he sounds in Season 1 vs. Season 2 is night and day.

Personally, I'd be fine with whoever voices Shadow so long as they get the voice right. I stand by the thought of Jason Griffith returning as Shadow because to me, he's the voice of Shadow. Heck, he even reprised the role in a fan audio drama. Plus, Griffith is actually well known in the anime community, like his reoccurring voices in Pokemon with Mike Pollock. Don't get me wrong, Mark, but I think you're treading on a bit of thin ice here. Not saying you haven't before, but we don't know what goes on at Paramount. Plus, when you look at the likes of Disney and Warner Bros., or even Netflix, at least Paramount (or if we're being more specific, the team behind the films) are playing the smart card by listening to the fans and showing their love for Sonic compared to how soulless the MCU or Star Wars have become.

personally i think it was a very good decision to put colleen on the poster she's incredibly talented and deserves as much credit as the celebrities even if people aren't gonna see the movie just for her performance. i know you didn't say that she shouldn't be on the poster but the way you worded it made it seem like it was unnecessary change

I think they’re going to do the same thing they’ve done with 2 in 3, by having one character voiced by a celebrity (Shadow) and another character voiced by a returning game voice actor (my bet being Amy)

Honestly Jason Griffin Would be my 1st Choice. He’s the true voice of both Sonic and Shadow to me and while sadly, he wouldn’t be playing the blue burr again it would be amazing to hear his shadow on the big screen, especially after it’s been so long. The moment I heard of the hidden base I got so hyped. When the credits were over and I saw the tube I started hopping a little in excitement and when I saw shadow I looked over at my fiance with my hands on my face and excitedly said, "it's shadow" a few times. Now that I think back on it he had a huge smile on his face as he looked at me.

I think Keanu Reeves is the most likely actor for Shadow considering his already existing relationship with Paramount, and I would be 100% okay with that, I think he's an amazing fit and he would definitely sell a ton of tickets

With how Shadow didn't have any speaking lines in the credits, it's very likely Paramount are considering a celebrity in mind for Shadow. A actor I never see being thrown around is Christian Bale, he's a great serious actor, and can be charismatic, much like Shadow in SA2. But, this video just proves how fans are unrealistic about how movies are made, and why certain decisions are done.

Hayden Christansen would be the best choice for Shadow! Sure Keanu Reeves and Robbert Pattinson's Batman voice works for the broody aspect, but Hayden can perfectly deliver the duality of Shadow. His performance in the Ahsoka series works so well for Shadow being a "Black-hearted Evil" and "Brave-hearted Hero" character!

I’m expecting Amy to show up in Sonic 3, and I think there’s a good chance Cindy Robinson will play her. Like with Sonic 2, the big antagonistic force will be played by a celebrity, and have the secondary side-kick portrayed by the game VA.
