Responding to controls and toggles - I don’t think it necessarily implies a lack of confidence of how Sonic should control, more so it just adds to the sense of freedom. Being able to control how Sonic should move is a way of the player being able to stylize Sonic to their liking. I don’t really see that as a loss. I think it’s really more about Sonic being able to control well and being able to get through the whole no matter what customizables you have at your disposal. Yes, you could argue why should it be up to the player, but you can also argue why CAN’T it be up to the player, you know?

Why does Sonic not just have a regular sized mouth in ANY of the games? Like I get that that's his signature smile and all. But you could totally have Sonic have a regularly positioned mouth and stil have that smirk from time to time. Heck, I'm pretty sure that Sonic Boom and the Movie have Sonic with a regular mouth that will just shift angles when necessary, and nobody even NOTICES. I always felt that there was something a little off-putting about Sonic's mouth being stuck to just 1 SIDE OF HIS FACE. Especially in games like Colors and Lost World, and of course Forces, where it's totally noticeable since Sonic isn't doing the smirk as much in those games.😅

The due fact that we are talking about mania being constantly over praised to the point where people are sick of it is testament to how aweful most modern sonic games are. I remember people whining about generations for it's 2d era gameplay detracting from the 3d era gameplay also and how they felt it was going to force sonic team into going backwards, and all I can say towards that is... Good. Adventures 1 and 2 are the only good 3d games in the series and they are extremely flawed games in execution as well, maybe tearing modern 3d sonic games down to the foundation and reviewing what made old genesis sonic games fun in first place is a starter, maybe reviewing some fan games or even just concepts is a good idea also. May I suggest reviewing sonic utopia for starters.
