I was having similar issues so I decided to try and change out the spring weight. I used their method to change the spring and broke my takedown tool. The spring will not loosen and I can't change the spring out. I reached out to shadow systems and they are sending me an extra guide rod with the lighter spring installed for free. No questions asked! I will buy their products everytime!

For enthusiasts and people who shoot and train regularly, these are great. Your advice is SOLID, and exactly what I'd recommend to new shooters who quickly become enamored with the platforms and expect that they'll just run out of the box. For those folks, I'd recommend a Glock, M&P, Walther, or even a Canik Mete MC9, SAR9, or P365 variant. The SAR9/SAR9C and Canik Mete MC9 are criminally underrated.

I was riding shotgun on the Shadow Systems hype train for the XR920, I watched every video review, read every article and endless Reddit reviews of personal experiences. I had a 19X but I felt like I needed to get the XR920 so I had the best of the best. But after making myself honestly weigh the pros and cons of swapping to a XR920 from a 19X I decided to stay with the 19X. After having it for going on 2 years and watching it cycle anything and everything I ever put in it and the confidence of knowing it’s a 100% reliable pistol with the history of Glock pistols lasting forever. Not saying shadow Systems are inferior or anything, but there’s just simply not the history of hard usage that Glock has. I decided to mill the slide for a dot and invest in a nice holster and just keep the glock and I’m happy I did.

Sounds like a very well thought out plan for your pistol! Thanks for sharing with us and thanks for the comment brother! I also have a Glock 19 its a gen 4 tho And Your right you can't beat the reliability! It really will eat any company's ammo you put in it no matter how crappy.

bought a xr920 elite a couple days ago and put a couple hundred rounds down range. it initially had some reluctance racking cheaper mags, but i use glock, pmag, and amend 2s. zero failure to feeds or stovepipes so far. gave it a good cleaning and oiling after the first day of use. smooth as butter. going to put a few hundred more rounds through it in the next week or so and if anything happens, i'll come back to this post.

Meh was on the fence about this one. But when you ask the question about watching a KZfaq video etc etc. My answer has to be NOPE!! Once I spend that much on a pistol I just don't think it should have those problems. Company sounds great but end of day I'm paying you for the product. If it has out of the box issues then that means you shouldn't be selling it. Great video. Preciate it

Before giving up on the gun, watch the video about break in done by Shadow Systems. If you limp wrist, any Glock will have FTF. If you want a soft shooting gun for 115gr, get a spring. If you want to use it for protection, get 124gr or heavier.

If I'm paying 2k for a pistol it better cycle everything...even wood bullets. Break in periods are ridiculous, guns (especially for defense) need to run flawless out of the box. The only failures I've experienced in oem glocks have been with wet ammo, out of spec reloads, magpul mags, worn out recoil springs, and aftermarket trigger connectors.

After purchasing my first, MR920 combat, zero problems after 500 rounds of various types of ammunition. Bought a DR920 Foundation, ran it through all the same kinds of various ammunition with even more rounds and not one issue. I have owned practically every 9mm and 45 ACP Glock there is and after thousands of rounds through all of them, even after changing springs, sights, etc they have never shot as flat or comfortable or as reliable as my Shadows. I have contacted their CS about some details and they have been prompt and informative. For the price, optic ready, TTI connectors, fluted barrels, grip angles, triggers, slide serrations, and weights I wish they would have come out sooner.

I’m 60 years old and have been shooting guns since age 8. I’ve been around guns all of my life and carried one for 6 years professionally. Now, to your video, I totally understand what you’re saying and why you’re saying it. This gun has been nothing short of a marketing nightmare. 99% of buyers want the gun to work out of the box. I mean function reliably if you needed to use it to protect your life. Most consumers don’t have time or the inclination to go fiddling around with springs and other shit to make the gun work. How many other guns have you owned required that principle? I guarantee you that they’re flooded with frustrations coming into customer service. Hell, I purchased 2 DR920’s and both guns choked after the 1st round. The best string I got out was 3 rounds fired without issues. Had 2 retired SF buddies with me at the range and they were on the floor laughing. One pulled a Taurus G2C out of his bag and said “hey brother, watch this”. I just laughed along with them and kept after it. I made the changes myself and it works like a charm now but this gun is DEFINITELY NOT FOR THE AVERAGE JOE. My point is: There’s no way they didn’t see this coming. You can’t tell me they didn’t run into these issues during work ups. No F way. I’m no marketing genius but damn I could’ve seen this one coming. I’d be pissed too if I’d bought a high end sports car and had to change the shocks, valves and run high octane only gas to make it run out the dealership. All kidding aside, this gun will run after you beat it up a little. Just buy some ammo and STAY THERE UNTIL YOU SHOOT ALL OF IT. Force yourself to address every hiccup. It will MAKE YOU a more efficient and effective shooter plus you’ll get all of your malfunction drills down pat.

Some of us can afford a couple shadow systems and some can’t. I only run 124 NATO 9mm, so I’ve never had the issues… except the CR920 butt barrel, different ordeal. Comps in general are a bit wonky, to me personally. With the butt barrel on the Cr920, it was honesty system. They send you a different barrel with a different barrel hood and they trust you to send the butt barrel back AFTER you get the new one. That’s not to say shadow systems hasn’t had a fair share of “uh oh’s” but they instantly fix them. The only other thing I’ve seen is the Cr920 trigger getting grittier with use, not smoother. I don’t have that issue hopefully never will. It’s almost Mr920 carry season though so I can get away from the Cr920. Until next spring/summer.

Use the extra spring that comes in your box... In other words yes you need to swap out the spring.. take the spring out of the gun and use the one in the box and problems solved! I hear what your saying tho... Why put the spring in the box when they could just fix the problem at the factory and ship you a gun with the lighter spring already in.. don't ask me why they don't do that but they don't.. they will just send you the new spring and you need to swap it out yourself.

Your video was suggested to me. I've got three Shadow Systems pistols. I have two of MR920s one Combat Optic and the Warrior Poet Edition. Both of them had multiple failure to feed and failure eject issues. One of them smoothed out in the first 200 - 300 rounds, the other did not, after 500 rounds. I had to send it to Shadow Systems and they stated that the barrel was out of spec and replaced the barrel and sent it back. Sense then, I've had 700 rounds through it with only a few hard primers from some crappy ammo I was using, otherwise, it's 100% reliable now. Fast forward to the CR920 that I got in May... Very frustrated, it's not reliable at all. I'm 300 rounds in and tons of failures to feed in every single mag with the exception of 50 rounds of 147 grain. I emailed Shadow Systems back on 7/8, they responded on 7/13 asking for pics of the barrel and sent a link to a technical Tuesday video about the "butt" barrel. I was out of town, sent them pics on 7/18 when I returned, and here I am after half a dozen additional emails and phone calls without a new barrel and a gun that is not reliable for summer carry. When I finally spoke to someone last Wed, they told me that they are waiting for barrels to come back from nitrating and that they will pull one from the next batch and will send one to me. Still could take 2-4 weeks, with no updates or responses. I love their pistols, but I'm at a 66% failure rate on two different models. I hope they get this resolved because I do love their pistols.

@@kylehill4437 Some people have zero issues with them. I had more than one with issues. On the CR920, I had the barrel issue, and notified them very early in that process. They never responded to half a dozen emails on my warranty request over weeks and then once they had a program to resolve the barrels by replacing them, they added me to the end of the list. Their CEO reached out after I emailed him (found his email online) and he replied a few days later and apologized. I even gave him some details on the FTF issues on the CR920 and it had to do with the syntec ammo they were using which is the only thing that ran in mine. I got a thank you, no expedited processing, no swag. Just treated me like we got your cash and we'll get you a replacement when we get to your name on the list. @SaltyNation1
@SaltyNation1 2 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on your new Gun brother Great question! The replacement Spring is a little lighter than factory... replacement is (15lb) thats the one you want to use with "average ammo"... Meaning it provides less resistance than the original factory Spring... When you get your gun field strip it, Remove the guide rod and swap out the Spring, Then put the guide rod back in position under the barrel and your good to go for 115 grain ammo or "average ammo" as you called it or in my words the cheap stuff!👍 If you have any questions on how to replace the spring just go to shadow systems KZfaq channel and they will show you step-by-step type in shadow systems Spring replacement and make sure you are on the company's YT Channel! ... If you don't feel like messing with any of that, the gun will function just fine after the break in with 124 grain or higher!. Thanks for your Comment and I hope that answered your questions!

Of course if you have been driving Honda civics your whole life that's all you know. Try sitting in a Cadillac and you can feel the difference. No? However I would not expect someone who has never had the experience with the weapon to understand the difference. I say go with what you know if you're not comfortable with something new don't try it. owning both a stock glock and a dr920p shooting them side by side there is no comparison. Correct? You would never put a gun on your hip to use in the Line Of Duty that you haven't personally shot at least a 1000 rounds through. Correct? Maybe the people I learned from just do things different but I always thought that kind of stuff was common sense. Let me try to help you for the future my friend. The only gun you should EDC Is the gun you have personally fired thousands of rounds through. I mean Before you ever think about walking around with a loaded weapon on your hip, civilian or public service You should know that tool like the back of your hand and you should have extensive practice with it until An acceptable level of proficiency and trust is acquired. Two DR920's. Neither would feed hollow points to even break it in. About 30 percent failure on FMJ. Nose up jambs. Rounded the bottom of the ejectors with a file and its a huge improvement. Both guns are having light primer strikes across 4 different brands of FMJ (haven't tried hollow points yet, just got them feeding). One gun has 300 rounds ran through it, the other has about 150. Sorry, but for this day and age, it should work out of the box. Most people don't break in their guns and if they do, they just shoot FMJ and assume it will run hollow points.

Thanks for your comment 👍any information helps. I think the reason people experience the cycling problems With the DR920p and not other SS pistols is because of the compensator. It is almost to effective at its job and robs almost all the necessary energy to cycle properly. When the user slacks thier wrist it exacerbates the problem by absorbing any positive resistance causing the cycling malfunction. That just makes the problem worse and people get cranky. And mostly understandably given thier knowledge on what to expect when buying that particular gun from SS.

🤔 Never herd of a staccato c2.. Does that company give you a match grade barrel when they sell you a gun? Dose it come with a flared mag well, tools, lock tight and optics cut incase you want an optic? Dose it come with a plate incase you don't want an optic? Do there guns come intergurly compensated? If you had to use your staccato C2 in self defense and the cops take your gun for the investigation does that company send you another staccato C2? How good is the trigger on that staccato c2? If the staccato c2 doesn't have any of that stuff then I'm glad I went with Shadow Systems!. Look I get it man and I agree I would never take this thing out of the box and put it on my hip and hope it works... That would be incredibly stupid.. I guess some people will never get over the fact that the gun has a break in... Maybe it's just way to much for some people to handle. I get that I also understand the argument Why pay that much money For something you have to break in and swap out a Spring? Here's the thing if you swap out the Spring and go through the break in the gun is like nothing else you've ever held or fired.. Dare I say exceptional.
