I have foam inserts for my DeWalt Tough 2 rolling system. I’m currently buying a premium tool set from scratch to go in it, as it’s pretty much Knipex lead it’s expensive and taking me a while to afford to get them all together before I cut my foam. I’m really looking forward to the day when I can start it 😊

Great set of tips, the pop up of the pad saw is 1 I am going to steal 👍. For my test leads, I use a wooden or steel object to scribe around, so I don't cut into the lead insulation. In my Teng tool chest, they have double layered a lot of tools, the pliers are a good example, where they would lay the side cutters on top of the combo pliers.

Hi there, thanks for the video. I have just invested a Makita set and will be using shadowfoam to get them nicely organised. Quick question - I'd like to get some of my other corded power tools in foam too. I have searched through your vids tips on this but didn't spot anything so far. Do you have any advice for corded tools? E.g. where to set the cables/plug. Would you get really thick foam to cut a deep cavity behind the tool or is there some other good method to keep it all looking tidy? Many thanks. Keep up the good work.👍

I found that for large areas where you have to peel, scoring lines along the area to the same depth as your outline helped as you were peeling back several smaller strips instead of trying to peel one massive strip. A similar process you would use when you are removing garden turf

Metalworker here - Springs, like the one in your pliers, don't wear out from being compressed. They don't wear out from being opened. They wear out from being repeatedly compressed and uncompressed. You won't wear out your pliers with the handles squeezed together in your display. You will wear them out actually using the pliers, but what good is a tool you don't use?

Thanks David! I’d say templating is a good option. If I were to do that I would probably mark out a grid of dots with a silver sharpie and then heat up a 1/4” metal bar and melt the holes. I may have to make a video about cutting circles 👍

About 20 knives, four or five multitools, pocket screwdrivers, Knipex cobra XS etc and about half a dozen torches. Some AAA, some much bigger. Currently it’s kinda all over the place! All “pocket” sized though overall so should be easy enough to find a box big enough!

Some use typical PE closed cell packaging foam. It is a little cheaper and you get a bit more of it for your buck but it only comes in black and white. I used it as I had some lying around from a delivery and it did the same purpose and cut like a charm. Shadow foam's vibrant colours is where they excel and is worth the little extra money if you want a really professional looking tool storage solution! Shadowfoams layers are slightly thinner at 5mm also meaning its easier to achieve the depth you want whereas the one I used is 10mm layers. Wraith foam does looks a little crumbly like the stuff you press fake flowers into

Well first feedback/tip from an utter novice. I failed to factor in how a bag reacts when stretched slightly meaning the foam I ordered was slightly too long (better than short!) So needed to cut 30mm off one end and to be honest didn't fancy using a scalpel. So armed with ad much courage ad I could muster I borrowed a large kitchen knife (non serrated) and using a slow sawing motion keeping neat to vertical and using a metal straight edge it produced a perfect cut through 70mm of shadowfoam.
@ShadowFoam
@ShadowFoam 3 ай бұрын

It’s a once in a while purchase. For me, as I spend a fair bit on tools, housing them in an expensive case is an investment. The coloured Shadow Foam will show up if you’re missing a tool, that could pay for itself in one instance. A 125mm Knipex plier/wrench I have is about the £40 mark, having foam to ensure I don’t leave it anywhere is a bargain. If you have scruffy cheap tools ( nothing wrong with that, some people don’t want to spend money on expensive tools) then I’d agree, no point in buying foam inserts. From what I’ve read, foamed toolboxes came from the aviation industry. It confirmed the presence of all the engineers tools, so nothing was left behind to cause possible damage, which could be catastrophic.

We didn't use foam in the Forces but we had shadow boards which as you describe instantly highlights a tool is in use. Each engineering tech had numbered tags which where put on a pin next to a tool taken to an aircraft. Certainly ensured you knew exactly where the tools where at all times!
