Four years ago, I fell inlove with a guy I met in rehab. We bonded over Shakey Graves and a few other bands on my MP3 player. He told me to check out his hometown someday (I was from Ohio and he was from North Carolina). I got discharged before him, but was determined to never go back to where I came from- energetically, spiritually, mentally, physically, so I rented out a motel room in his hometown- where I knew no one but him. I took a greyhound bus there and gave myself a week to find a job and a place to live. If I could do that, I’d stay in Asheville. If those things didn’t happen, at least I tried. This song was playing while the bus rolled its way through the Blue Ridge Mountains as some spark within me was lit with the awe of their magnificence and this “new direction” that was being tried. The guy and I did not end up working out, but I did find a job and set up a home in the new town, where I still live today. Other than deciding to continue an unplanned pregnancy I had later on that year (which is not the answer for every situation, it just was for my personal dharma), making the move was the greatest decision of my life. This song really helped me feel less alone and more brave while I strolled the city as a complete stranger to everyone and everything.

Everything about this post from the song to the stunning scenes to the story behind it all capped off with Shakey Graves lending himself to tie it all together is artistically spotless. Everything in my soul loves everything about this video. Well done. ...and I'm more than a little jealous.

i thought, oh this song is so sweet. then i listened again to the lyrics and realized they perfectly desribe every codependent relationship i've been in and i can't express the respect i have for shakey because his lyrics are so much more than i think, every time. even if he didnt mean them that way.

The canyon scene keeps amazing me, living in the Dutch flatlands derives me from seeing such landscaping, very fitting for this song.

So I tried a new direction, Ooh, a new mindset, a new state but running's what it is it's hard when you're a kid to find your place I know a gang of clever fellows we built a fort out in the woods we cuss and spit at all the girls without a care in all the world yeah, the living is good but now im supposed to grow big and tall seems like i dont get to wear my bare feet at all but when the storm is through my feet know what to do all roads lead to you I think i've grown a little thinner without you riding my coattails I will trade it in all again for a nice stroll in your skin just to cure what ails and I can see a palm tree from my chair so I don't really feel like going anywhere and even if I do It really is of no use cause all roads lead to you I can see a palm tree from my chair so I dont really feel like going anywhere but even if i do its really of no use cause all roads lead to you I always try to please you i'm never getting any sleep love seems easier when it comes but the coming's just the first part of having to leave so maybe ill die a happy minstrel or just a shadow of my former self I'd undo what I have done but lamenting's much more fun guilt is bad for your health oh, but now I'm supposed to grow big and tall seems like I dont get to wear my bare feet at all but when the day is through theres nothing left to do baby, all roads lead to you yeah baby when my life is through i know just what to do cause all roads lead to you Need these here so I can learn this masterpiece

i think of it as an internal struggle w urself. "all roads lead to you" no matter what happens to you or changes your perspective, you're always gonna have the same past mistakes that you can't erase
@patrickfox70004 жыл бұрын
Its basically about being hopelessly drawn to a situation that is toxic. No matter how much he tries to change and get away from it he eventually returns because he’s addicted to it. Like a codependent relationship.
