Shallow processing involves encoding information based on surface features like appearance or sound. For example, memorizing a word by its font or how it sounds is shallow processing. Deep processing, on the other hand, involves encoding information based on meaning and connections to other concepts. An example of deep processing is understanding the definition of a word and using it in various contexts.

What if I tend to do shallow processing but I understand most of the things and information I engage with? Like I absorb and process the information with mix of intuition and understand that make it very quickly but yet sufficient. Can I safely assume they are both shallow but deep processing? Great video by the way

Shallow and deep processing is relative. For example a child might have to struggle a bit to understand what 4^2 is. As an adult u know the answer, so you dont process that info very deeply as oppose to a child who'd have to think and then learn it.
