Shane, probably another tip to use is when you srrew any coach screw into timber and bolts going in through timber, put some grease on them as it will stop the sap from reacting with the metal and rusting. This is regardless if it has galvanising coat on it. As a Liney, we do it and I have pulled bolts out of poles that have been in there for only a short time, about 12 months, and rust has formed eating the gal away. Also, the grease makes it easier to screw the coachscrews in and remember to wipe the excess squeezed out grease off.Keep up with the Feral look, suits ya 😀

+rosscoesmiff Yeah l actually did that that Rosscoe. I spent a bit of time back the young days building pole houses on the side of hills and my boss was always going on about greasing up the bolts. It's a good practice which l've continued on with today. I should have mentioned it but l just forgot. We ferals have to stick together Rosscoe :-) Cheers mate

Shane, a stressful house move a few years ago saw me refuse to shave until we were done and dusted. Much to my wife's annoyance there were multiple delays. By the time we moved I looked like the love child of Merv Hughes and Grizzly Adams! When the soup strainer went we had a cutting ceremony. I still miss it to this day! Grow, grow, grow my friend. A man isn't a man until he's had at least one good beard!

You're a fine chippy, Shane, those posts were tip top! Shame I haven't seen em that good on the subdivisions round here haha. As for the beard and hair, I say let em grow. Just like the old boys used to do with footy season (which ends in a week btw, I predict an Eagles victory!) it's good luck to keep it growing till the end of the season/project. Cheers mate :D

Never seen those post supports before - neato! As for the Wild Man look - go for it. As an old greybeard I find it unfair how much black and brown is in your beard, not how much grey...see? it all depends on your viewpoint. Enjoy the colour while it's there my friend! Another neat movie Shane, thanks Mate.

Another bit of brilliance there uncle knackers, cheers for the tip mate. As for the hair and beard conundrum, l recon you should let it go for a bit Shane, i just cleaned myself up about a week ago, had a bit of a Ned Kelly look there for a while, which is a good thing in winter, but summers on it's way. Oh, how's the knee situation going, had any luck finding relief ? Cheers Shane, thanks for the share mate, cop ya ron.

Hey Shane, Nice, got some primer on that end grain and the raw wood. Way to go. As far as the hair and the beard go, as long as the Mrs. likes it , that's all that matters. Those complaining are probably bald and can't grow a good beard , heh! good job.

Great tips! By pouring the concrete in afterwards, how can you ensure that it adequately makes it's way under the post support? Or is the concrete strength on the sides of the support?
@diyforknuckleheads
@diyforknuckleheads 8 жыл бұрын
+Zukini28 G'day Zukini. Once the concrete is poured, just get your shovel and vigourously prod the concrete around the hole and under the post stirrup so that the concrete fills up any air pockets. It works well. Cheers

Thanks Knackers. Thoroughly enjoying your OB series. Just about to embark on a similar build myself. Why did you decide to hang the beams on acro props first, then erect the posts second? My slab is already down, so I have to use screw in post anchors. I had planned to notch out the posts, set them in place, plumb, brace off, then mount the beams onto the posts. Any issue with doing it this way?
@diyforknuckleheads
@diyforknuckleheads 5 күн бұрын
Cheers mate! Glad you're enjoying the series 👍😁 When you hang the beams off acro's it makes setting up the posts so much easier. Just hang them off the beam that's in the right position and then plumb the post....attach the post bracket and then bolt the bracket to the slab 👍

When lifting the post up into position (4:50) does the post HAVE to reach the top of the beam or is their a maximum allowed distance for the post to sit lower than the top of the beam?
@diyforknuckleheads

G'day Troy. It doesn't have to mate but if you can l would do it. The more post you have on the beam, the more stable it is in regard to twisting, Good luck 👍😁🇦🇺
