In this video we are doing another movie reaction!! We are watching Shaolin Soccer (2001) FOR THE FIRST TIME!! We really enjoyed Kung Fu Hustle when we watched that ( • Who Knew a Martial Art... ) and we were so excited to check out another one of Stephen Chow's movies! All his life, an ordinary young man (Stephen Chow) has been treated like dirt. Still, he's never given up believing that all the world's problems could be solved with a little kung fu. So he's teaming up with a band of misfits - six friends who were kung fu masters in their youth - to form a soccer team that only he believes has a chance to win a $1 million grand prize. Together, they're going to apply their hidden talents to a whole new game -- and soccer will never be the same.

As he got older, Stephen Chow slowly stepped out of the limelight. He directed CJ7 (his last appearance on screen, I believe) and Mermaid. They both still has his slapstick comedy but the latter felt a little "lonely" without him being the hero. If you're looking to see his earlier films, my favourites are Fight Back To School and Sixty Million Dollar Man. As always, it's a pleasure watching your reaction 💖

At 14:07, I love this single moment so much... Because in this moment, Golden Leg is preaching what he now KNOWS TO BE TRUE. He had his title tattooed on his chest as a kid. Because he thought he was so great. But one of his own, fellow players destroyed him. It wasn't throwing the match that lost the game, it was not being a team. In this moment, I feel he sees himself as he WAS. But his comments speak of the wisdom he has LEARNED in the years since.

I fucking love his rendition of journey to the west. A lot of the humour is language dependant though (important prince vs impotent Prince... I live Steven Cho films. He not only does great movies but in all his film he always puts in an Easter Egg Homage (nearly every scenes in the film). Steven Cho is like Eminem but in the film industry. They always show "Repect" to all those before them in their works.

Im surprised you haven't seen Shaolin Soccer, this movie blew up when it was released in the USA with english dubbed. Most Walmart if not all had it selling in the front by the check outs. The english dubbed is not that bad since this movie is a comedy movie.

Also loved that their first goalie was a hommage to Bruce Lee, the way he looked and moved and of course his yellow suit (no, not a reference to Kill Bill ;).

The supporting actors are the same ones in Kung Fu Hustle & the two players with the dreds & in blue and white uniform are the leading ladies in two of his other films before this (King of Comedy & God of Cookery) :D Thank you for the entertaining reaction!
