Shaolin Tiger workshop. Shaolin Tiger (Hu) Form is one of the most powerful and technically challenging of all the Shaolin animal styles. Shifu Shi Yan Ming will present tiger form techniques which incorporate the use of the whole body. It will consist of many attack and defence aspects. Tiger’s overall style is characterized by its explosive force and fast movements. The form you will learn contains hand and elbow strikes using tiger claws and clawing techniques. Tiger footwork is fast and agile, like the big cat themselves, with trips, sweeps and kicks; as well as moving around your opponent with agility and speed. There are also some simple acrobatic movements such as rolls. The practical applications of tiger form involve many grappling techniques including joint locking and Qin Na techniques (Chinese joint locking), all of which will be explored and practiced on the day. In addition to this many traditional Shaolin forms were designed with more than just physical strength in mind; internal energy is also required to feel the full impact of the movements and Tiger form is no exception to this. Shi Yan Ming will explore internal and external energy of tiger form with you.
