Some of you are straight effed up watching this drama. Every loving parent would want their child spared from any absolute misery. The family might be tortured for questioning & Niao Niao is their youngest and their only daughter. This isn't abandonment. This is a mother telling her child to do everything to survive.

@@drunkpekka4284...I was being sarcastic, because it's complete hypocrisy to me that her parents would want her to do everything to survive but lecture LBY about how he "abandoned" their daughter when he was ALSO doing everything in his power to make sure she lived on and survived. In reality, NEITHER abandoned her. Both loved her, which is why they wanted her to live on no matter what. Again, I was just poking fun at the hypocrisy in this drama...and there are a ton of hypocrisy from every character. No one should have been punishing anyone.

This is a scene where Niao Niao's family are misunderstood to have been treasonous and is taken to prison for questioning. Being investigated in prison means you can't avoid torture. So Niaoniao's mother hopes that if she is accused of treason and the family dies, she will not die as much as her daughter and survive until the end. Niao Niao's mother loves Niao more than anyone else, even though she is hard on the outside.

Also that means SS can move around freely and investigate what is going on. She is the smartest of them all and has support in high places.
