Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. Some people are not getting it. The parents are scolding him because he said he would stay away from now on. The are telling him she was miserable without him and nearly died. They are really telling him to stay and fight for her to forgive him. They won't protest who she chooses, including him.

So their daughter is a stubborn brat who consistently victimizes herself without ever acknowledging any wrong-doings, and because they can't talk sense into her, they're blaming LBY and scolding him? Why should LBY constantly have to do all the work in trying to fix and mend the stupid relationship? Shao Shang contributed to all their problems and was the one who actually broke off the engagement and cut ties with him. She's f'ing unreasonable. If I was him, I would be so happy to be rid of her and just run. At this point, he has already lived five years without her.

@@hazyme1...so Shao Shang had no contribution to the mess that happened? I call BS on that one. Shao Shang is not an innocent victim and people acting like LBY should shoulder all the blame and needs to redeem himself are clowns. Shao Shang needed to do some soul-searching, to learn to own up to her actions, and better herself as well in order for relationships to work. She is the most unreasonable, bratty character I've ever seen in a C-drama. In the modern world, she would have had to seek therapy since all she does is drag her childhood issues around as a way to avoid actually accepting consequences and taking responsibility for her own decisions/actions.

She’s petty and seeks out vengeance on the dumbest thing yet she’s blaming him for seeking revenge when he actually witnessed his father gets murdered…then woke up to see his whole family’s head on a pike. What would she have done? Not to mention he tried several times to tell her but was interrupted. If she was as smart as she was made out to be she should’ve noticed those parts too.

@J Tran ...you aren't the only one. And I agree with everything you said. She's so self-centered, she's not capable of putting herself in the shoes of others or understanding them. She was so upset when her own family was merely thrown in jail but couldn't seem to understand LBY at all OR the fact that it was _she_ herself who had a hand in getting Peng Kun killed off by Ling Yi, putting LBY in a situation where he felt the need to go kill Ling Yi in cold blood. All she did was wash her hand of any accountability and victimized herself the entire time. And when she was crying in the carriage about being unlucky because she couldn't marry Yao, I wanted to slap her. Like, girl, you're not even in love with him! You're merely just using him. Surely you can easily go find yourself another man to use!

If the mother had been an actual mother, Niao Niao might not have stayed with the Empress so she cannot blame Buyi completely for losing her for 5 yrs, she should look to herself first.

He needs to try to be there for her while she mourns. She also needs to realize she’s hurting herself. They need to do something fun and light instead of danger all the time. If someone is in your heart after 5 years of separation then you obviously have a deep level of love.

@@stephanien6237 I mean kind of? Had he not jumped from the cliff they both would've died, he didn't want her to die. Seems like a rock and a hard place decision imo. If I loved someone that deeply and knew that my dying would save them, guess what I'd do? Whether they begged me or not. It sucks but it's a harsh thing to refuse to see the perspective of on her end.

People in the comments should read more historical Chinese novels. The parents can't directly say, "Get back together with her. Bring back the old her." This is not a western drama. They have to say it in a round about ways and General Huo has to read between the lines. The first time I read a C-novel set in ancient times, my head hurt because I have to understand what the characters mean and whether they meant what they say. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Perhaps this mindset is common in the various countries of the East. I am from India and have heard several anecdotes where the married couple were not supposed to show their affection in public and if any couple was indiscrete, would be ridiculed and shamed. Times have changed and many practices are global, doing away with inhibition and prohibition.

Well, I mean...... There are some costume dramas where they sleep on a Jade 'pillow'..! (Such as emperor Dong Hua in Eternal love of dreams) So I guess hers would be slightly more malleable. Although I feel a scrunched up piece of clothing would be more comfortable! But yeah. There were definitely no therapeutic pillows back them. I imagine the beds weren't all that comfy either.

I'm happy to know that I'm not only one worried about the pillow. In every historical costume dramas, when I see those square shaped big hard pillow, I feel like my neck is aching ouch..😂😂

@@rahatqureshi264 I see those in a lot of CDramas, and I always think the same way you do. I have issues with my neck. Last Christmas my husband bought me a neck donut. That thing is fabulous and provides instant relief at night. I wonder if those long, rectangular pillows were the precursors of my neck pillow?

If it was a smaller square, it might be comfortable, but that thing is huge! No way anyone with any sort of neck issue could ever feel good using that thing; and if they didn't have issues before using it, they do now.

You have two people who are cracked they haven't completely broken they both had no idea what love was, neither have experienced it so how do you recognise it. One was abandoned as a baby because of some woman's lies and that was bad enough but they stayed away from her for FIFTEEN years so she not only didn't know who her mother and father were or what they even looked like she has brothers she had never met. Her own grandmother never acknowledged her as a granddaughter. The first thing her mother does is tell her off and it got worse and worse and worse. I will always despise the mother whether they mended or not. Our General again had no idea what love was he watched the complete annihilation of his family the aunt was not his mother he had to pretend she was yes the emperor loved him but had he been put into a position whether to save his sons life or Ling's the son would have won. These two people are soul mates very few of us actually understand what a soul mate is. They can come in friend form or sibling form but the greatest one is soul mates through love. She makes him be gentle and free and happy while he gives her the validation to be who she has always been. He will protect her with his very life and woe betide anyone who hurts her including punishing himself. Abandoning her was the worst thing he could have done. I LOVE THIS COUPLE for me as I live in England this is my absolute favourite series It used to be Pride and Prejudice but sadly they have been demoted

He didn't abandon her. She stuck her nose into his business, ruined some of his carefully laid out plans which pushed him to take extreme measures in order to seek out justice for the death of his entire family. He got to a point where he didn't think he was going to survive, and he didn't want her involved, precisely because of his deep love for her. Then SS did what she always does, selfishly victimize herself using her childhood insecurities to justify blaming others instead of accepting consequences for her own actions. He'd warned her from the start that if she kept meddling, she could harm him in the process. She victimized herself and blamed everything on him when the wedding she wanted couldn't happen, and punished him for 5 years. She claimed he abandoned her when his intention was to protect her. Why the hell does she think she is always right? Why not listen to him and try to understand his perspective since he's the one who did what he did? She was also mad he broke his promise to her. However, at the end of the day, it was her who actually did the abandoning by breaking off their engagement and cutting ties with him because she was too unreasonable and refused to understand his actions. She also did NOT keep her promise to herself to never forgive him. How hypocritical of her. So it's okay when SHE can't keep promises? Why, exactly, did she punish him in the first place? Where is her f'ing apology in all of this???

suzanne, I highly suggest: "New Life Begins" it contains some similarities to this one but it's less dramatic. It still is my Fav One out of CDramas. This LLTG has gotten me crying and I need a relief, it will remain as my 2nd Fav, though.

IKR! It really does rival P&P in the best way possible. Love watching it on repeat mode. Have you watched the modern drama Only for love? you might like it. you have to watch it slowly though - pace is slow but lovely

Zhao Lusi is incredible!!💖 Every nuance, every emotion,... you can feel!😮 Her acting skills and just superb.... 🥰 Let's be honest though... the writer, the actors and actresses, this series... SUPERB!🥰 I NEVER get tired of rewatching this magnificent series! 🌃 Beautifully executed from start to finish, this is a beautiful series!🥰 I just wish the books were in English... It's fine... it's challenging me to learn Chinese so I can read the books.🥰🦋

No Madam Cheng it was actually 20 years because you abandoned Niao Niao as she was a baby . She has her reasons for staying in the Palace you can't blame it all on Ling Bu Yi

HB said he loved her and convinced her to trust him fully. then she found out how many of the acts also doubled as covers or methods for his revenge. it was her 1st time trusting someone and it was tossed back. remember she was sick n got pulled out by the prince to handle the imperial court and defend him. once the trust was shattered and he didnt say he regretted abandoning her. she was crushed and had alot of self hatred. thats why she chose to go by with the Empress. mentally fleeing, and grieving. she also thought this would free him to marry or move on as he preferred.

🌸 Huo Buyi is so ashamed that he’s having trouble looking her parents in the eye. That’s half the problem. He feels that he let them all down even though he was trying to protect them and now he can’t face them. They already understand what happened but are upset that their daughter is suffering so much. Only he can truly make her happy if she’s able to trust him again.

They all let Shaoshang down apart from Lou Yao and Yuan Shen. Lou Yao loved Shaoshang but had to split with her because of the Emperor's Edict, and Shaoshang wasn't in love with Yuan Shen even though he loved her and supported her throughout the years that LBY wasn't there. LLTG is possibly my most favourite drama. Every time I watch it I see something I've missed. I thought the cast were phenomenal and their acting was superb. One of my favourites was Shaoshang's dad. For such young actors the two leads were amazing and every time they're in a drama they just get better and better.

I don't know why the parents are making a big deal about not seeing her showing up for the celebration that the family had because she was never involved in any of them to begin with for years she never knew what it was like to go out that was her first year that her parents had came back that she had went to a festival ,look at her mother ignored her the whole time and doted on her cousin so why miss her now you have daughter inlaws and grandchildren

Her mother got some gall coming for him!! If you were more understanding she wouldn't have cut herself off from her. Also the FL acts like everyone is supposed to be like her family. He wanted to protect her because he had already lost his family it was no way he was going to put her in danger and they didn't understand that about him. Loved this show BTW!!

When you are in a relationship it is always going to be trial and tribulation and it's not always going to be easy but what people need to understand is that sometimes parents need to back off little bit don't get me wrong I know parents are over protective but they need to let their children be able to fix their own relationship problem because telling him to stay away is not going to solve anything it's only going to make it worst and the mother caused her pain as well I truly believe that he has shown really love to her and beside what god has put together no man can't tear it apart even though it a show parents can't even fix their own issues

In my view, his revenge is deep, that is his ultimate goal, shaoshang coming into his life is just a bonus i guess, as the title of the story is love like the galaxy it is from the heart of ling buyi, his love for others, the oppressed especially is as big as the galaxy of course including shaoshang but he is firm in his mission in life, and luckily he was able to get back the love of his heart, the reason he kept his identity is to seek justice for his father, the hou family, and the gu city. He tried his best to do it in a legal most possible way but trials came along his way, he got to make the best choice, which is the best. Unfortunately shaoshang has a trauma from abandonement. In reality for christians vengeance is not ours, so the consequences are also real. In life what really matters is to know the purpose of our existence this way we dont get confused. Love u guys. Also i would like to express to wulu, the fans could not move on til now, that was really a spectacular series! Wishing both of you the grace from above. xoxo

He didn't abandoned her, he just didn't show up infront of her for 5 years. If she was dying in the palace, then General Hua was also dying in the battlefield - everyday. However, in the background story, he saved cheng family's back and left his most trusted guards to protect her and Cheng family. The real problem here is General doesn't know how to get SS to forgive him. Plus, both of them are stubborn. That's why, even the parents are worried not only for SS, but also General Hua. They both are hurting themselves because of their stubborn behavior.

He did not abandon her. he loves her so much that he respects her decision thst she will never forgive him for what he had done like falling off the cliff by himself instead of together & not sharing his decisions with her.

@@frfarahrahman The abandonment occurs when he chose to take revenge instead of going ahead and get married to Shoshang. He knew his actions of patricide meant certain death, so if he had marry Shoshang he would implicate her and her family, because he lost all evidence that General Hou was his real father and that his uncle (Ling) was the murderer of his father and traitor to his entire family and city. He was the cause of all those people getting slaughtered.

NN/CSS Felt abandoned because HWS/LBY jumped off the cliff [to save her] without her, knowing she pledged and preferred to die with him than living w/o him; there was residual resentment for not giving her the option to join him in the massacre. The 7 years reduced to 5 years was his punishment for killing his uncle [and uncle's associates, but mainly just uncle], so that was out of his control.

She could have fought harder to take her with her. Then to add insult to injury when she came back she kept comparing her to the younger cousin.

It doesn’t mention it that clearly, but in the 5 years, Shaosheng was so sick from not taking care of herself from depression and almost died. They are mad that he wants to keep leaving her be (leaving her stuck in the past with what they could’ve have) instead of winning her back.

The only 1 that had never left her behind or abandoned her was the Empress that's why she chose to live in the palace for those 5 years that the Empress was sick before she died, because she gave her the nurturing mother feeling that her mother didn't give her when she came back.

We Asians don’t directly say what we mean. You have to learn to read between the lines AND LEARN FOR YOURSELF! AND DO SHIT FOR YOURSELF! we don’t do everything for them! By the time we do tell you directly it means 1 thing…. You are at the very last chance before we cut the cord and you are forever on your own.
