Shaq's last line is hella underrated. Its his mentality of being true to himself as a person first and the basketball player second, is what stopped him from being the GOAT. And he still made a top 50 in 96 barely touching his potential.

Shaq is definitely not a goat. Why? Because he relied on his size and weight. Steph Curry is not tall or heavy, heck he isn't even that strong, but he's a pure basketball talent. The same goes for Luka Doncic, Kobe Bryant, Drazen Petrovic, MJ.

People were terrified of Mike. You didn’t want to cross him or make him angry. All the big stars knew it early and would warn the younger guys, “Don’t even look him in the eyes.” They were serious. And what you realized over time was that Mike was usually playing around 80-90%. Just enough to win and make things interesting, that’s how bored he got with the game. But when someone said something sideways about him in the media or his team lost a game they weren’t expected to lose, you knew 100% Mike was about to come out to remind everyone who the king was. And that’s when he’d thoroughly embarrass people and make the game look more like a clinic between a pro and amateur. People forget that when he came back with the Wizards, he’d been retired for three years and was 30lbs overweight. Broke his ribs in the lead-up to the season. Wizards were the worst team in the league with the worst roster I’ve ever seen in my life. Before he blew out his meniscus, Wizards were on pace to get a top 3 seed in the East and MJ was averaging 30ppg in the month before the injury at 39. Again, this was not a team of stars or aging stars, they were TRASH. Only addition was retired, “I just decided to get back in basketball shape after 3 years off”, dirt old MJ. That’s how great he was. There will never be another player like him because people will only ever compare that player to MJ.

I've watched nearly every game of all 3 eras (Lebron/Curry era, Kobe/Duncan/Shaq era, Jordan/Bulls era, tail end of Bird/Magic era). It's not a conversation at this point. Lebron is his own player (like a roided out Magic), but Jordan is the definition of GOAT basketball player. Like it's so easy if you just watched all these guys. The differences, there's no argument, Jordan HAD a better competitive nature about him to win (this is no argument anymore), he HAD better moments (the 2-3 comeback was a team comeback, it was lead by both Kyrie and Lebron, Jordan's end on the Jazz was literally all him stealing the ball - hitting the gamewinner - layup prior - etc). Jordan had a perfect legacy/impact/insane stats/etc all before the 3pt takeover too (which he could have done if it was normalized then). I love Kobe, but for as great as he was, and as much of a replica of Jordan he was, he didn't have quite the discipline Jordan had on the court. That was the downside of the 2000s superstars, the 'heat check' era you could call it, while it was fun to watch (Vince Carter is actually closer to Jordan IMO in terms of skill/talent/movement). Kobe is damn near as legendary as Jordan honestly, he was that guy for us, but he didn't have that same discipline to make his team win AS WELL. You did not see Jordan chucking shots unless he truly felt it would be a winning move. He was locked in, never seen anything like it. Lebron can't sniff that type of instinct Jordan had, but his dominating size/talent/efficiency gets him up there alone. Different players, hard to compare. Jordan is basketball though.

A player's stats are a big part of the story but not the whole story. It's also how a player affects the flow of the game with the intangibles, energy, teamwork, hustle, defense and offensive movements, smart decisions, etc.that elevate a good player to really good to great status. I was a pup watching MJ go over the Suns and Jazz. I understood MJ wasn't losing and that he was widely accept as the greatest of all times. Also growing up to parents who loved Magic and Kareem, so I was raised to be a historian, Recognizing Bill and Wilt as well. Dr. J who was the original man! So when Kobe came on to the scene, I was invested. This was my guy to watch and follow and make history. He didn't disappoint. Jordan was him, and Kobe was the guy who had the gull to attempt to be greater. His dedication to the game was so artistic and poetic for me. Kobe captured my 8 year old self while wearing the number 8. He had a fro, I had a fro. His story, one of being misunderstood. He just resonated with me. Out of his 20 seasons, I probably missed 10-12 games total (not including his forst couple of years before I knew what was happening and NBA league pass wasn't out.) So for me, I recognize him as the best. Nobody ever was able to hold me like that and entertain through sports. Then LeBron came. I had his first signature shoe and that's when I started to out hoop me friends and classmates. LeBron felt closer to my age and captured a space in my heart as well. I've seen a good majority of his games as well. Half the time pulling for him to be great, the other half pulling for him to not be as great as Kobe for trash talking sake. LeBron just continued to check every box imaginable and is Mr. Basketball. I mean he's seen every situation inside of basketball and has succeeded. Without question the 3 greatest players I ever seen, and I understand that who someone says is the greatest of them all is likely going to be the guy they came up following. It's the natural process of a fan. No answer is wrong. Only a fool would not appreciate the greatness of these men. MJ, Kobe, and LeBron. Them guys!

Why would a player who played in the 90’s, respect Lebron? He’s a whiner, his FT and outside 3’ FG percentages go from not good to terrible. He can’t make a layup without travelling and rarely attempts a dunk that might be contested. He plays in an era with defensive 3 second rules, not hand checking and where the breeze of a passing opponent’s hand is enough to get a foul called.

He‘s a great 3 Shooter, great postmove plays,Crazy IQ,Unappreciated blocker/defence,great finisher, fast, midrange etc. I guess you only watch his fail Highlight‘s to discredit his greatness & using his 4 Rings as a justify to trashdown him. And you def forget he‘s a player from the early 00s were he played against players from the 90s. So let me tell you a question: „Don’t you think that a Giannis can match most of these Centers from 90s (Maybe until Hakeem)? Or do you discredit him tho bcs he‘s great?“

1) Man, Shaq looks and sounds healthy! Celebs all out here getting healthy ASF. Dana, Shaq etc etc. 2) I watched Shaq talk about how he was a bully as a kid, had a bad incident and started to stop being such a twat. He seems like a legit nice guy now. Maybe was a little too arrogant whilst in the league, but that kinda comes with being in the league. I'm glad he's chilled since Kobe's passing (which still friggin gets me and I don't know why). There isn't a SINGLE person that makes me tear up who has died, but when I watch old Kobe videos with his daughter, I gotta make sure I'm alone. If I'm am not, I switch to something else. It's crazy! And I know a lot of people like that who feel the same. I wasn't even a huge Kobe fan! But he seemed invincible. And he had a certain look to him that really made him stand out. The guy was a walking GQ model. Every time I saw him, I always thought, damn that dude has some damn good skin....I wonder what he does to get his teeth so white? I think the fact that his daughter was with him is what really seals that for me.

Let me put it this way. I don’t think anybody will replace MJ as the GOAT *for me* personally. But I can never begrudge someone for having Lebron as theirs. Same with Kareem and same with Russel. There are a few others I wouldn’t necessarily hate you for choosing but I just don’t personally think they have a reasonable enough argument. Lebron, Kareem, Russel, they all have enough of an argument that I can’t say you’re crazy for choosing them, but they just don’t have the arguments that I’m looking for to put them above Jordan.

Has society ever deemed an athlete with a losing record The Greatest in their respective sport? A 4-6 record in final series without even spearheading a dynasty shouldn’t even make this a debate. There was a level of fear and a feeling that no matter what happens, the Bulls we’re going to win when Jordan was at his peak. They never went on a 3 game losing streak when he was on the court for 8 years. Lebron’s most memorable moment was a chase down block with a 1:50 left in a tie game. He hasn’t had his “Flu game” or “last shot” moment. The only thing Lebron can do to eclipse Jordan is go on a 3 year run where he destroys the competition like 96-98 and 3 peats. He’ll have 7 like Brady as well as the total stats. And He’d have finally given one franchise a dynasty & have more rings-as the bonafide superstar - than any player since Russell.

You disregard the fact that MJ was the favorite in every one of his championships. The only championship series Lebrons teams were favorited in that he lost was the Mavs series. People can make fun of Lebron for that loss all they want, but MJs bulls aren’t beating any of this Warriors teams in the finals. MJ also played against weaker competition his entire career
