We take a deep dive, deeper than anyone should, into Shaq-Fu (The Sega Genesis version). Shaquille O'Neals very own fighting game. Misunderstood gem, or the 16-bit laughing stock of fighting games?

Wait - that website that the Nerd mentioned is real? Holy moley, this might actually be the best video game ever made! What other game has a website dedicated to its destruction? Now that commands respect.

We're coming into the Thirtieth Anniversary of when Shaq Fu started development, and it is welcoming that folks such as you, Justin Wong, Top Hat Gaming Man, and yours truly have all done some relevant form of documentation about the core essentials to its production and presentation that many often seem to overlook; below are some details that have been discovered since I had first delivered my commentary for it on the channel during Season 08 in 20I8, to coincide with A Legend Reborn's Launch Week: ~ Morphs: Flashback II, the unreleased sequel to Flashback: The Quest for Identity that was set to become an exclusive for the Sega CD in I994 or Early '95, was shelved after about Four Months of development due to Shaq and Pepsi's partnership with Delphine Software; in the long run though, this could've been a blessing in disguise, as Microids is only now finishing up development for Flashback II almost Thirty Years after Paul Cuisset had potentially completed the original script, its November release will be a bit of a Redemption Arc in the Post~Delphine Era and wishfully this will lead to other unreleased concepts finally making their way to the industry once more. ~ Shaq Fu II was only ever intended to be produced for the Megadrive and Super Famicom, with a projected release date around Late I995 or Early '96, it would've used a modified version of the boxart used for Shaq's inaugural album Shaq Diesel from I993 and a lot of Concept Art for the new venues and characters is publicly available thanks to the preservationist efforts of former Delphine Software artists Thierry Levastre and Eric Caron; more on this will be found on Thierry's website for The BozoCircus (accessible through the Lost Media Wiki), you will get to see imagery of the new map for Second World and also brief bios on the updated Twelve Character roster (except Shaq, ironically), which leads me to believe that akin to Flashback II this project was already deep into development before being axed. This entry may very well have been cancelled due to the Midrange Grade sales of Shaq Fu and also because of Delphine Software having already done some hefty migration to focus dedication towards developing for then~current DOS systems and the original PlayStation, as the team would've been heavily divided between doing work on Shaq Fu II and Fade to Black that it was not financially viable to produce both; considering how much sooner Fade to Black came out, it beat Tomb Raider, Deep Fear, Rockman DASH, and Resident Evil to the punch by many months on the type of gameplay formula that would fuel the Late '90s, this may have been a smart move but it truly makes me wonder how much further DSI could've taken the Gen IV consoles with Shaq's second adventure had the PSX not been a priority at the time. ~ Last night, I had taken the time to do some experimentation with the Megadrive version, and it ultimately led to a major discovery that will greatly impact Tournament Play: Shaq Fu was intentionally coded with no Final Round Rule, you can have any match of the game go all the way up to Round 099 regardless of the mode that you are playing on (Story, Duel, or Tournament) and still somehow end the match without a definitive winner. If neither fighter in a given match is to get Two Wins by the time that Round 099 is over, players will be forced into the game's Kill Screen, you get jumped to the Leaderboards and then it'll kick you right back to the Title Screen; this is incredibly troublesome for Tournament Mode, as this means that you would have to restart the tourney from the Quarterfinals from scratch, it would be ridiculously rare to get this in general play but the amount of Draws and Double KOs that would have to be obtained as is would be a phenomenal display from both players involved and wishfully we will get to witness that at an official event soon enough. (:
