Some of you young cats don’t know who Alvin Robertson was. - He is the All time Leader in steals per game. - He was a great defender - He is one of only 4 players EVER to get a Quadruple-Double - He was a legit trained boxer NO ONE in the league wanted any parts of dude. As you can see, there’s a WHOLE bunch of players trying to stop Alvin from retaliating and no one really holding Shaq back. Shaq did the RIGHT thing by “bombing first”... because you are not gonna intimidate Alvin. Today, it might seem like Shaq was “picking” on the little guard, but I’m sure Shaq knew this and he had to establish he’s not to be fucked with neither.

Being from San Antonio and a Spurs fan all my life, I can remember when I was a kid in the 80's going to games, and one time my dad leaned down and said to me "Keep an eye on Alvin, watch how he defends." I think it was that night I got an Alvin Robertson poster that I had on my wall for years. Fast forward to 2002.. I was a 22yr old heavy drinker and one night around 1AM I got pulled over and went to jail for a DWI (Not proud at all, I'm ashamed I drove drunk like an idiot. Now I'm over 10 years sober though. Yay, go me, blah blah blah.) So I'm sitting there in the cell that they keep you in during processing feeling like a loser when I look up and see this tall dude in a suit, frantically making calls on the payphone that you can make collect calls with....It was Alvin Robertson!. I said hello and that I was a fan, and I even told him I had his poster on my wall when I was a kid lol. (Ugh, how embarrassing). He just said "Oh, thanks." I could tell he was was desperately making calls trying to get a hold of someone, I assumed his lawyer. I had already made contact with my dad(who was not happy at all) to bail me out so I knew I wasn't going to have to put on orange and go upstairs. Just 14 miserable hours of waiting to get released. Anyway, I know AR has had his legal issues over the years, but I've always wondered exactly what he was in for, and if he got bailed out or ended up staying for however long.

A lot of people commenting here that don't know 90s basketball. Alvin Robertson was a golden gloves boxer before the NBA, built like a light heavyweight and possibly insane. Freeze the video at :30 - look at the one guy "holding" Shaq back and the 6 guys trying to get Robertson under control. I don't care if Shaq's almost a foot taller than him, if Shaq stepped to Robertson with no one holding them back Shaq would be going to sleep.
@tiomadden19276 жыл бұрын
G4MarchMadnessHD I didn't know that. When you look back at NBa during that era, basketball was wayy more ferocious and violent. For example, look at the fights shaq got into (brad Miller, Charles Barkley, Alvin) they were exceedingly violent. You don't see that kind of activity nowadays. Now I see why they at least took out hand checking-- to at least try to remove the violent tendencies or "gangsterness" in basketball. Geez, NBA was raw. Steph curry, LBJ, Kevin Durant, John wall-- they wouldn't last a year in that NBA style

Alvin Robertson had a somewhat excessive boxing backround, I mean Golden Glove and stuff. And his built was that of a light heavyweight at least. There is no question really to what would have happened here, if not for a million people getting in the middle. Big ole Shaq would have been knocked out in less than 5 secs.
