"Animal Lover" by The Residents is one of the most terrifying albums I've ever heard. I wanted to make a video about it as the first in a new series called "Jaw Droppers," in which we go into detail about albums that've left us slack-jawed.
I have a big stack of CDs to get through and these videos should cover the weeks in between interview content. Let us know if you dig this kind of thing!

As a guideline: the concept for much of this album was animals seeing our world and lives through their eyes.

Nice start to a new series. Looking forward to it. My first Residents was a bootleg cassette of various outtakes and rare stuff. It was sent to me by accident instead of a Zappa bootleg. Nonetheless I fell in love with it. I felt I discovered a whole new world. Got Duckstab and the Commercial album soon after.

Thank you. Happy accidents lead to great discoveries! Commercial Album was probably the first Residents album I ever heard. My dad bought it on CD!

Daughters - you won't get what you want, is a jaw dropper for me. Wow I don't know whether I should listen to animal lover or not o.O

LOL, this old fart goes back to almost the beginning with these boys (and girls). Heard Santa Dog on the radio at 2am, ran down to Tower Records and grabbed the only thing available, Meet The Residents. Third Reich and Roll came out and that was it for me. As prog died, a sticky phoenix rose from the ashes. Used to go to the Ralph Records garage sales in S.F. (both locations) back in the early 80's. Went to the "Disco Will Never Die" (Diskomo) party hosted by Mr. Lithman. Saw them on multiple occasions, but after they went all Mole and then Snakefinger passed I kind of last track. Heck, even wound up marrying my wife because when I met her back in 1981 I couldn't chase her away with Goosebumps. But I have to say, try as I might, they just don't click with me the way they used to. Still look forward to the series. Back in the day you could clear a room of drunk frat members with Buster & Glen in about 30 seconds flat. _Jaw-dropper_ indeed.

slidetek : awesome comment. I didn't get hip to The Residents until 1989 so you must have tons of stories I would love to hear.

Wow! Lucky you! To be in the right place at the right time with The Residents must have been quite the opportunity. Did you see our interview with Homer Flynn? Your wife must be a special person! My wife absolutely hates The Residents and most of the other music I enjoy. We connect on some music, but not a lot. I’m trying to focus on newer music with my interviews, but I have a big stack of CDs I want to go through with this series. And since it only takes a few hours to make a video like this (versus about 20-25 hours for interview videos) I hope to churn out more content that’s more digestible for people. Only one I can think of off hand is when still dating, I went to see Snakefinger play, my wife opted to go see Jello and the Dead Kennedy's the same night. Her event turned out to be a non-event, Senor Lithman was on fire with his band and "guest musicians". She did get to see him on both the 13th anniversary tour and with the Vestal Virgins on his very last tour. ☹️

So far The Residents albums I've listened to include Meet The Residents,The Commercial Album,Duck Stab,and Eskimo. The Residents music sounds very evil and strange and it sounds like no other music out there and that's why its appealing to me. Meet The Residents and Eskimo are terrifying albums. I need to listen to Animal Lover and great review by the way.

Animal Lover was my last (not least!) favorite Residents album. Demons Dance Alone is one of my top 5 albums of all time. I LOVE them both! Thx for the video.
