Imagine seeing a viral video of a fatal shark attack without knowing the victim hasn't been identified yet. Then you later finding out that the person was a friend or family member, only after millions of people have seen the footage. @@wendyspring6480 I'm not blaming the witness at all. Please don't put words in my mouth. I was purely thinking of the situation from the perspective of the family and friends of the victim. If you want to go down that road though I will say that it's one thing to film and document what happened but it's a completely different thing to put that footage on the internet for the world to see. Once again I will reiterate that I'm not blaming the witness as it could have been one of the authorities that leaked the footage.

I am so very sorry for this man and his family. I truly am. I just saw on the news they are dropping drum lines over about 13 beaches. Which catch a lot of other sealife that die awful deaths. Surely people can respond to signs on the beach not to enter the water because of the possibility of a shark in the area. A lot of signs and beach patrol to stop people stupidly entering the water now they know there is a great white in the area. It is a horrendous event but the ocean is not our natural domain. I have also seen news that people are still going into the water despite warnings. This poor man did not have a warning - just pay respect to him if nothing else. Stay out of the water. Do it for your family and friends if not for yourself.

To say this was a freak accident does a disservice to any future swimmers who decide to go in the water there. By calling it an accident what you're basically saying is: Go swimming in a black wetsuit in water where there's plenty of fish present along with people fishing along a very steep drop-off. This was definitely not an accidental attack. Obviously the shark was very deliberate and predatory in its actions. RIP Simon.

They ABSOLUTELY know why. They are HEAVILY protected and so are seals. This leads to one thing..... more whites reaching the age and size where they switch from fish to MAMMALS.... Whites grow and reproduce slowly. So..... We are stating to see the effects more and more.... Combine that with LITERALLY a 1000x more surfers and bodyboarders than 20 years ago and 50,000 more than 50 years ago. Who knows how many more swimmers??? One one outcome can be expected..... more attacks. Unfortunately.... white shark attacks are often devastating. Notice that there's no increase in fatal attacks in Florida..... because the food source for bull sharks is still FISH. And they aren't STRICKLY protected.

The oceans are getting fished out the human race is literally devouring it maybe the shark attacked because there is no food left in ocean and was hungry. Maybe the human race should really stop fishing for every swimming editable creature in the ocean to eat and save something for the creatures that have to live off the ocean to survive. When people go swimming that's the risk they take getting attacked by a shark and now the poor things are problem starving and turning to whatever they can find

A sad loss of life and not easy for those who knew him. The major point is the victim made some poor choices. To swim by himself , late afternoon, baitfish prevalent and no support around is unwise. Thus this attack was preventable. Sometimes people in their desire to perform do not do the proper Risk Assessment.I am a former Captain of a Surf Lifesaving Club and have seen many sharks up close. Many times I refused to enter the water when my brain was thinking through scenarios. What is needed now is a re Education program to alert swimmers and surfers to abort activities when the risk is too high.

Terrible. Sad situation for sure. In Northern California they put a moratorium on actually fishing for the GWS... I believe it was around 1993. When that happened I said we have about five years before there will be issues (used to surf) The reason is that the largest sharks were out at the Farallon Islands, 27 miles of San Francisco. The juveniles, up to 10 feet or so would come in closer, as territorial rights went to the biggest, mature ones... they went for seals at again, the Farallons and Ana Nuevo... both elephant seal colonies. I believe that (I am a retired marine biologist btw) the sharks have gotten larger and simply go where they please and eat what they want... I don't believe this was a female that just gave birth and was being territorial. They give live birth and move on. The 'babies' are approx. 3 feet AT birth. Teeth and all and have turn-key instinct to feed and flee danger. The fish ATE the man. It attacked him, allowed him (its chosen prey) to bleed out and came back to finish its attack. The man had a wetsuit on (a seal costume for all intents and purposes) and was swimming along a very deep shelf... where the ambush occurred. White sharks are fish... they primarily feed early morning and late afternoon into the evening... just like the fish that the fisherman that took the attack video were trying to catch were doing. Feeding. Three even four meters isn't really sexually mature yet, but that size has had its teeth thicken to effectively attack larger prey, seals, whatever. The juveniles mostly feed on fish as their teeth are more pointy and thin (like a Mako sharks teeth are... which are a member of the Mackerel Shark family just like the Great White, the Portbeagle and the Salmon shark.) Yes, these White sharks WILL snatch someone in knee to waist deep water so watch out. They are big and they are no longer in danger of being extinct anytime soon. Look up Lucas Ransom shark attack. Santa Barbara, California, body surfing in 4 odd foot deep water and killed by a Great White that was estimated at 18+ feet long (in 4 feet of water.)

I am no expert by any means and I'm certainly not a coroner or forensic scientist but I do study sharks as a hobby and based upon the footage that I have seen and the type of attack that occurred along with the estimated size of the shark I would have to say that this was a female likely having recently given birth to pups and was probably being territorial hence the reason why it circled the area for quite some time after the attack was over. we can only hope that this man didn't feel anything and his life was taken quickly and mercifully. we can say that since he was a dive instructor apparently he was doing what he loved and was well aware of the risk. I doubt that he would want us to blame the shark.

@@jtfoog5220 ? Perhaps you know nothing about THE SCIENCE of lunar effects. Moron. Talk to ER departments. Farmers. Hospitals. EMTs. Vets. Look at the stats of behavioural changes in all animals relative to lunar phases ( though scientists have an allergy to do actual research into anything ancients have ever believed in, referring to proper research with sufficient data points). Start Paying attention. Most of what ancients believe is actually quite logical. Most of it. We live in a quantum matrix and all of these are nothing but scientific phenomena in a mathematical information based simulation. Anyhow, lunar impacts aren’t even superstition anymore, not even among majority of scientists. I saw a FOX last night in front of my house in Sydney. Literally in the middle of our street. Showed zero fear. I saw the same Fox several months ago during a full moon night as well and I barely go out at night in my neighbor hood. But anecdotal evidence aside, we have solid published data on such stuff.

@@jtfoog5220 and I always follow ancients which is why I barely ever am surprised. I know what scientists think and say, as a scientist myself. But I also research the meta/para world and watch what they say, closely. I recall Steve Judd in his “ intro 2020”, available on KZfaq and published in 2017, warned about 2020 disasters and even mentioned pandemic. All based on historical observations and ancient beliefs of 4000 years. I heard other occultist and hermetics saying the same about 2020 and talked about a 2-3 yr world war like disaster globally. Also, remote viewing experts ( look up the CIA spies) reported for years about seeing “sky’s without planes” post 2020. All predictions zoomed in on jan 12, 2020 cosmic line up which was identical to the one from 1430s and Black Plague pandemic. All still on the web. I told everyone in my family to cancel all their major plans for 2020. We weren’t surprised one bit. We didn’t suffer as much. Maybe, just maybe, you shouldn’t put all your chips in the science basket. I say this sincerely as a PhD scientist myself. @@jtfoog5220 now, do what a scientist should do and put the dates of full and new moon in your cal. You WILL see weird sudden effects impacting your life or those around you every-time, w full moon being much more emotional. The intensity and type of events will be dependent on whatever cosmic line up you do have and what the given line up of the given new or full moon is relative to the event. Given those who are Aquarian dominants are getting hammered at the moment, I know this man who just died horribly had a very Aquarian dominant chart, followed by Leo as that’s the axis that was hit with the full moon AND also it’s the same axis that currently is being hammered by Saturn ( death, endings, karma etc) square Uranus ( sudden events, freak accidents). Anyone you know who is Aquarius and Leo dominant is being hit hard since 2021 and cancer/ cap has been hit hard since 2020 and next is Pisces/virgo axis. They’ll get hit in 2023 specially. Etc etc. If these folks had known ancient sciences, they would have not gone out into the water yesterday. No way they would have. It’s just basic statistics. It’s data science of antiquity. Chances just increase or decrease for horrible (or wonderful) events depending on whatever cosmic program one is running in this simulation.

Stop with the foolish waverunner shark attack garbage. Jaws is a movie. From the looks of this the man was spearfishing. He also was wearing a black wetsuit. It's appears he was snorkeling free diving spearfishing fish. He was also diving alone. It's likely the shark mistook the swimmer for a seal. Seals are a big part of great white diet. While not familiar with this part of the world I have been diving, boating and year riding personal watercraft in South East Florida for 53 years. The vast majority of sharks here don't concer divers. Bull sharks are very common and one smart people watch close. Very sad very tragic. That said we all know the risk and the reward. This man was a dive instructor. Knowing many he was very skilled enjoyed diving. He died doing what few really understand. Most sharks pose very little risk to divers. In Florida it's the beach goers and surfers that are most at risk. Again surfers will surf any place there are waves. The dive, surf or swim is well worth the risk. Go as often as you can enjoy the hell out of every minute. It's people that are unpredictable. Sharks are concerned with staying alive, eating and making baby sharks. Any iteration with people are by accident or mistake. This shark is no man eater. If it was the body would be in its stomach. Killing this amazing animal is just wrong. .

As there were reports that Simon was bit in Half and then came back and consumed half of him. I knew the shark came up from the ocean floor and threw him into the Air then attacked. They're not a 100% guarantee that a shark won't be interested in you but the device will help.

A shark doesn't care if it's a seal or a human. Even if a cow was swimming in the ocean and the shark is hungry. It's going to go for it. I recently watch a documentary of a GT- known as Travelly. Their food source is generally other smaller fish. But occasionally they jump out of the water to eat birds. That's how nature works, it doesn't care what it eats so long as it fills it's stomach. We need to stop making the assumption it killed the man for mistaken it for a seal. Apex predator does not care, what it is. So long as it's tummy is filled.

Ive been coming to little bay since i was young to the point where ive gotten comfortable to spearfish at night on some occasions, with a few friends. I was there a few weeks ago when a father and son drowned at this beach. My condolences to both families as these tragic events were the last things i thought will happen in a spot i frequently spearfish at. Ill be honest with both events, while it is a popular spot to stand on that rock and rod fish, it is the most dangerous when the waters are rough and if you know what im talking about, standing on seaweed while fishing during rough waters are not the safest combinations. Especially with waves that literally come up over the rock and suck anything that isnt secured to those metal poles placed on those rocks. Ive seen people who arent familiar with this beach underestimate how quick that spot can suck you under and out even though it looks safe to swim in, ive helped/ warned people whose lifes couldve flipped for the worse a few times in that spot only because ive experienced what its like to be sucked out so quick, luckily for me i had my swimming gear on. There is a swim ring about 50 metres behind literally hung up on a rock, and if people had known it was there, maybe the outcome would have been different. Who knows. All im trying to say is that if youre unfamiliar with a beach/bay/spot be very careful, do some research beforehand. As for the man whose life was taken by the shark, all i can say is in my experience swimming off the bay in that area, sharks definitely come around. Ive only ever encountered grey nurse sharks about 3-4 metres maybe 3 times in my lifetime in that spot/area. The last time ive seen someone swim out there with no snorkel, flippers with only a swim suit was 2017 and when the current was dead calm. It is as unfortunate as it gets as this man also knows this swim spot. Now a great white in little bay? Im skeptical it was a great white especially with the camera quality and a very quick assumption by the dude recording, though it is very much possible

In such dark and deep water, and fishermen right there harnessed trying to lure tuna and other big fish, on a full moon at near 4:30 pm, this was a "full committed attack" by the great white.... if you have ever watched Shark Week's "Air Jaws" program, I think it's basically what happened here. So there was zero room for a test bite or casual encounter. This shark honed in on him from deep below, and then struck him full force from what eye witnesses said, the shark was already in full attack mode, very different than just curiously approaching a person to see what it is.

A perfect storm of unlucky events for the victim. Based on the description of the initial attack it sounds like the victim probably died of blood loss immediately after he was hit. Then, to see the absolutely huge shark in the other film return & consume the body of the victim certainly drives home the fact that Great White Sharks are huge, fast astonishingly efficient predators that can & will attack & eat anything the see as a prey item in the sea including a line swimmer in the right place at just the right moment. It shows us this attack was no mistake. This attack was a full on classic Great White predatory attack, the prey was allowed to bleed out then, it was fully consumed in the classic Great White manner.
