As a surf skater, I'm constantly going over mixed terrain. Sometimes I want bigger soft wheels for safely cruising the streets. Other times, I want something smaller and harder for skatepark sessions. Shark Wheel claims to have combined both of these into one setup. They make some other pretty bold claims, some specifically targeting surf skaters. This week on WorkforAvocados, I'm putting Shark Wheel to the ULTIMATE test.
I'm riding these things through the roughest street I can find, as well as trying them out on the mini ramp and the ten foot bowl. Are these things really as revolutionary as they say to be? Or are these just one more product in a long line of skateboard gimmicks? Shark Wheel has not provided ANY product for this review and has been paid for with my own money.

This is the most thorough review on these wheels I have seen! Similar to my conclusions. I tried them in a skatepark at first and was disappointed, but when I brought them to the Azores to use them off road and on their crazy cobblestone streets and damp temperate rainforest like areas, I found that they were really good in those tricky terrains compared to a standard wheel. Great video!

Thanks dude! I appreciate the wet ground tip. Was very surprised by how well they slid with such little effort in conditions like that

So far they've been awesome for my 51 year old, 310lb, old fat guy bod. Skated as a teen into my 20s so not new to skating, just coming off a long break... anyhow, onto my thoughts. I've been riding Sharkwheels, 72mm 78a, for a few months now. My deck is custom built focused on what can handle my weight so I'm rolling on Old Boy Ceramic bearings with Calibur II 10" trucks on a Landyachtz Fixed Blade 38" deck. At my age I'm not trying to be fancy with tricks, just want a smooth mellow ride on the roads around my neighborhood and other local areas. So far the Sharkwheels have been awesome for giving me a smooth ride, even at higher speeds. Rocks, small branches, and other road debries get either chucked by the wheels or rolled over with little impact. Barely feel any rough spots and it rolls right over or through smaller potholes. In so far as wear, over the three to four months riding them under excessive weight, I can't say there's been a lot. The print has worn off the sides quite a bit and the asphalt has gotten them fairly dirty but tire wear seems to be at minimum. Keep in mind I'm not doing a lot of sliding though. Overall I love them although I wonder if I'd like other wheels better or worse since wheel, and skateboards as a whole, have changed up quite a bit since I last skated in the early 90s. Maybe some of those Powell Peralta Dragon Formula wheels everyone seems to be raving about....

Someone mentioned they would be great in a wet climate like the the NW. I think if you have a reason for getting them and have the extra funds it’s a useful tool to have in the bag. Thank you for watching Mickey, I appreciate the support!

I live in the pacific northwest, loads of rain. I find my shark wheels ride in water and through puddles noticeably better than regular wheels. Sometimes can even ride bmx dirt tracks if its packed well. Be well all! 🙏👍✌

That’s a great point dude! Thanks for the perspective, I could definitely see that coming in clutch for environmental conditions like that. May have to give them a try on the BMX dirt tracks too

Great review. I really enjoy them. I run a pair of 60mm on a Vallely Barn Yard slappy setup and they do great on Slaplies. You have a lot of control on whip into the slappy. I also run the monster 72mm my Waterborne adapter with Indys. I really enjoy that setup because it is a monster truck. It goes over all things. I like hitting a puddle and sliding them. There is value in them for sure. I wasn't a believer until I was. Not for every setup but a fun tool in the shed. Stay rad Sir.

Yes! The slappies are awesome on them! That alone almost changed my whole view on them. I think you hit the nail on the head with the “tool in the shed” statement. When you find the right moment for them they can be incredibly useful. Thanks for watching man!

I actually skated these for a while. I spent some time in east idaho where there was a lot of gravel because the streets were not maintained at all. For that situation they are incredible. I didn't love how they slid at slow speeds, and so I put them on the front of my Surfskate to keep the front stable and then kept the slide of some other wheels that I liked. They did last a long time, but eventually if you're doing a lot of slides then you'll wear past the grooves and then the effects are a little less noticable

Lol I'm a year late to this party, but that extra "plastic stuff coming off" of the wheel was just the excess runoff from the wheel mold seams. It's supposed to wear off because it's not a part of the actual wheel design.

Thanks for the vid! I just can’t see myself needing these. Maybe if I used my board to commute I’d think about it. Since I’m pretty committed to my C7s, and I’m not going to risk getting them rusty, I don’t see myself riding in wet conditions. ✌️

Definitely don’t want to damage something as scarce/expensive as those these days! I was super surprised how much they slid with little effort, but yea a commute would probably be the only way I’d ride them wet

You definitely ripped these wheels. I have much the same experience you are expressing in the review. They are definitely a weird wheel and fun at the same time. I get stoked seeing these things roll. Seems like if my setup is unique and a challenge to ride it just makes it more fun to see what can be done on it, do you know what I mean?🤭🤣🤙🌊

lol, at the beginning when you hit the pebble..., as if that's how nicely and gently you fall when that happens, more like you hear that awful sound and then silence and if you're lucky you have a split second to go limp before you eat it

What do you think about the Shark Wheels? Leave a comment below on where you would ride them or if you’ve had experiences with them in the past
@Quickrex
@Quickrex 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah skating is a lifetime of feelings , sometimes you stick to what you know, sometimes you constantly try something new and different. Skating is about geometric . Sometimes a new board shape, length, width, bushing or wheel can make the difference between trash or cash. I use to love soft wheels and I thought who the fuck wants hard wheels. Now I’m hating soft wheels because the are just so boring and slow like a Grandpa.

Luckily there are so many choices. I hear you though. Our personal equipment may work best for us but not somebody else. Sometimes not even younger or older us. The eternal chase of imperfection. Happy riding dude, thanks for the comment!

I think they might be worth it if you mostly cruise over really really shitty terrain but in most places i think it's just a gimmick and not great for sliding either due to uneven surface area.
@WorkForAvocados

Fair point on that! If you can find a spot for where they work I feel like they excel. Kind of like a speciality tool. Most of the time you aren’t going to need it, but that one job may make it shine. Thanks for watching dude!

My biggest apprehension of the Shark wheels is the 78a duro. I know that the 78a is good for a water like emulation.But ?. What NEW wheels I think would be best for surfskates is the Bustin 64mm 81a cored stone ground center set wheels and they're what I'm using now. Also the FIREBALL 60mm,65mm, and 70mm 81a duro cored wheels AND the FIREBALL 76mm 87a duro BEAST. I'm really interested in the FIREBALL line up performance with the surfskate. I think we're going to see a lot more cored wheels. I'm also going to experiment with TWO DIFFERENT durometers for the front 78a-81a and back 84a plus. Not unlike the slalom skateboard.

:-) Feels weird for a European to be called „Sir“. Actually I think there is so much more then reviews in your posts- its a lot of your life in there and that started to really interests me. Sorry I, don’t want to make you feel like some kind of a emotional stalker - but there is so much between the lines of you vids I think- stuff you don‘t mention. Episode for Episode I feel you struggle with life and you enjoy it- and no not matter shit happens to you - and there is quit a bit of it -you just keep doing your kind and wonderful videos and get on with life and go on and most of all you are yourself. Man, I think I ought to call you Sir :-) So yeah I love your reviews but I also feel Avocado TV is just worth it by itself. Its got me hooked. Keep going Sir
