Sharks escaping red tide fill West Florida canals

The canals of Buttonwood Harbour aren't usually home to sharks, but hundreds of bonnethead, lemon, and nurse sharks trying to survive red tide have found themselves gathered there indefinitely.
In the canals of Buttonwood Harbour, Janelle Branowner noticed an unusual sight. There were hundreds of sharks: bonnethead, lemon and nurse sharks crowded into the canal. She recorded some video on her phone and called the experts, who said red tide is likely to blame.
Air stones that bubble water into the canal at Buttonwood could be helping oxygen levels. Mote Marine Laboratory has sampled the water. Senior biologist Jack Morris recorded the water temperature at 90 degrees and said oxygen levels are depleting. If red tide continues, Morris said the sharks could run out of time.

I just said the same thing after watching this. I wish there was something we could do to save these sharks! Can they add more aerators? I don't know how feasible that is, but man. This year's red tide (thanks to Piney spill) is so bad right now. I have some family that just moved to St. Pete a few weeks ago, and I was actually embarrassed when they told me they almost puked at the smell when they visited the pier for the first time. Yikes.

Nah. It’s directly related to the sugarcane industry in Florida. Florida makes the nation’s sugar (or a big majority of it). The chemical fertilizers they use and the runoff causes the red tide. I sure hope you don’t consume sugar or you’ll have to give it up or be a secret hypocrite sugar addict lol.
@joshgreene3064
@joshgreene3064 3 жыл бұрын
@@bakarangerpinku that is correct. Big sugar & mining are definitely directly related to the majority of problematic red tide events in FL. While they don't cause red tide, which is a natural phenomenon documented back to the 1500s by Spanish explorers, it feeds the bloom causing it grow out of control. Instead of just killing off a few thousand weak fish, it has completely decimated Tampa Bay this year. Piney point is the culprit this time by dumping over 215 million gallons of phosphate water into the bay. I just got back from St. Pete. We had to go almost 2 hrs north to find clean water to fish. It's gonna take years for this fishery to recover.

This is nothing new. This has been going on for decades in South Florida. The agricultural runoff from the sugar cane farms is partly to blame. As well as the dairy farmers in Northern Florida. Both industries pollute lake Okeechobee, and the Everglades. Both of which empty into the Gulf of Mexico as well as the Atlantic Ocean. This mix of agricultural runoff & cow manure feed algae blooms that naturally occur seasonally. It’s just this crap that DeSantis is allowing to be dumped at a regular interval is exacerbating an already bad situation. Btw, the Florida sugar cane baron, Florida dairy baron, and Florida land baron like to contribute to republicans. So don’t expect anything to change soon.

@SandcastleDreams
@SandcastleDreams 3 жыл бұрын
@@stalkingtigerscom That's strange. I don't know of any farms along the beaches in FL. Especially in larger Metro areas such as Tampa, Miami, ect. There just aren't any farms in the big cities. What I do know for a fact is that there used to be a lot of aquatic plants in the waterways. And during that time, Manatees and fish were flourishing. In fact, the Manatees were making a comeback. It has to do with the food chain. And the aquatic plants also helped cool the water as well. BUT some idiots were more interested in TOURISM DOLLARS and the fact that they wanted to open up MORE waterways to become navigable by boat, so they wiped out the Aquatic plants. Now, what do plants do? They soak up nutrients and they grow. All plants need nutrients and where there are a lot of nutrients the plants flourish. And so do the fishes and even the insects. IF you go back and read historical farming manuals, they "fertilized ponds" with manure. Why? To promote all of the little critters in the ponds that we can't really see so that the fishes have something to eat when they hatch out. When I first started reading about that I was shocked and had revulsion at the idea. Until I did some more research and found out about all of those little itty bitty lifeforms that need that kind of thing to grow and multiply. And the little fishes, when they hatch out feed on those itty bitty lifeforms. Among them are zooplankton. There was a Scientist I was in contact with a couple of years ago that had come to the same conclusion that I had...that they needed to put plants back in the water. I talked with her a bit. We had both come up with the idea of possibly creating rafts of plants that could be moved from area to area. Unfortunately, the experiments SHE tried were all pathetic and didn't succeed because she chose plants that would not spread (keeping in line with the greed for the tourist dollars)...the plants have to be plants that multiply or the fish will eat them out of existence. My idea was to use aquaponic rafts to plant in, when the plants got too numerous or too far spread out, go in and harvest them and turn them into biofuel or compost. Don't just wipe them out, make use of them. Compost would have been a great idea. You could even sell it to the public and that would be a contribution to help clear up the waterways of trash and stuff. Politicians don't want to listen to anything like that. And neither do invironmentalists.

We have bubblers where I'm from in all of the areas where boats dock. They're supposed to minimise the levels of invasive algaes that can harm native water species and prevent clogging boat motors. They dump huge amounts of oxygen into the water. They're not very expensive to run. We don't have sharks but they might be able to help counter red algae blooms and provide sharks and others marine animals in the area with much needed oxygen.

Isaiah 9 vs. 6, " For unto us a Child is born. Unto us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. " Yeshua Ha Massiach (Jesus The Messiah) Acts Chapter 4 verse 12: " There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved." Who is Christ? Who is Jesus? Born of a virgin, Mary. Matthew Chapter 1 verse 20: " behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him (Joseph), in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for that (Christ)which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. Jesus, the Christ, is God's word made flesh. Jesus is Jehovah God's (The Creator's) Word made into flesh. 1 John chapter 5 verse 7: " For there are three that bear a record in heaven, The Father, The Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these three are one." John chapter 1 verse 1: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John chapter 1 verse 14: " And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." John chapter 1 verse 10: " He was in the world, and the world knew Him not." Hebrews chapter 4 verse 12: " For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." How beautiful and awesome is God's Word, who is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, magnificent in all His glory, is He.Amen! John's Vision Of Christ Seated On His Throne In Heaven: Revelation chapter 4 verse 2 to 3: " Immediately, I (John), was in the Spirit, and behold a throne sat in Heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance, and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald." Why did Christ Jesus came and sacrificed His precious life for sinners like us? Christ (God's Word made into flesh), came because through flesh (Adam's flesh) sin entered the world, and then because of sin death entered the whole earth. Through flesh(Jesus Christ's flesh), the earth will be saved, sin is destroyed, and the curse of death shall be broken, death and the grave shall be cast into hell. Christ, who is God's Word made into flesh, sacrificed His life for us. He was crucified for our sins and transgressions. Christ died, and on the third day He resurrected in the flesh, conquering death and the grave. Now, Christ is seated in Heaven, at the right hand of Power(God). Through Christ's sacrifice we gain Salvation through God's abundant mercy and grace. We are reconciled and recompensed back to God, through the shed blood of His beloved Son Christ Jesus. John chapter 3 verse 16: " For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that who ever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life." Romans chapter 5 verse 8: " But God demonstrates His love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Christ came to undo the sin and eternal death brought upon the world through the sin of Adam. Death in Adam, Life In Christ: Romans chapter 5 verse 19: " For as by one man's disobedience(Adam), many were made sinners, so also by one Man's (Jesus)obedience, many will be made righteous." Romans chapter 5 verse 18: " Therefore, as through one man's (Adam's) offense judgement came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even through one Man's (Christ's) righteous act, the free gift came to all men, resulting in the justification of life." Romans chapter 5 verse 17: " For if by the one man's offense(Adam's offense), death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in the life through the One(Jesus Christ). Romans chapter 5 verse 12: " Therefore, just as through one man (Adam)sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned." Romans chapter 5 verse 21: " "So that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Do you now see that through Adam, sin and death entered the world, so that is why Christ Jesus came to give life, and give it more abundantly? Yes Christ came to give eternal life through Salvation. Adam's flesh brought sin, death, destruction, and condemnation. 1 Corinthians 15 : 21-22, "For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ, all shall be made alive." Christ's sacrifice, the crucifixtion of His flesh, brings reconciliation of sins, life, resurrection, eternal life, salvation Christ is coming back again, not as a sacrificial lamb. He is coming back as a roaring, waring lion, to destroy sin, death, and the grave once and for all. Amen! Amen! Amen! Amen! Amen! Amen! Amen! Hallelujah! Revelation chapter 22 verse 12 to 13: " And behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. " Now do you see friends, Why Christ Jesus is so so Important for our Salvation? Yes. Now, do you understand why there is only one way to God, and that is only through Christ Jesus,only? Yes. Christ is Salvation. Christ is our Lord and Saviour. Christ is the only way to God. Christ is the only Mediator between God and men(us humans). God loves us so much, He does not want anyone to perish in hell. God wants all sinners to be saved. That is why He sent His Word to save the world. God's Word became flesh, and dwelt among us to save us. Will you accept Christ and be saved? Romans chapter 6 verse 23: " For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." John Chapter 3 verse 16: " For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that who ever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." Salvation is free! Christ already paid the price, all you have to do is recieve salvation through acceptance of Jesus Christ, Yeshua Ha Massiach. So who is Christ? He is The Word Of God. He is the Son of God. He is God. He is the image of the unseen God. He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the beginning and the end. He is the Great I Am. He is Emmanuel. He is The Christ. He is The Messiah. He is The Creator. He is our Lord and Saviour. He is our Mediator. He is the Lion and the Lamb. He is Salvation. He is the way, the truth, and life. Amen! I love you Lord! God created the heavens and the earth with His spoken Word. Did you know that Jesus is that Word, through which all things were created? Yes. John chapter 14 verse 6: " Jesus said to him," I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Colassians chapter 1 verse 15 to 16: He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." John chapter 1 verse 1 to 4: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men." I hope that you know Christ, and understand Christ better now,to the glory of God. Amen! Christ is for all who will receive Him. Please pray this prayer with me. ***Lord Jesus, thank you for dying for me. Please come in to my heart. I accept You as my Lord and Savior, You are the Son Of God, You are the Word Of God, You are God. You are the Great I Am, the One Who Was, Who Is and Who Is To Come. I believe that You sacrificed your life for me and died, and on the third day You awoke and raised up your body in the flesh. I believe You are coming back again in the flesh (In your resurrected body). I believe Salvation is only through You. No one comes to God (Jehovah) The Father, but through You. Forgive me Lord of my sins. I renounce all of my sins past and present this day. I will sin no more with your help dear Lord. I want to be close to you Lord, now and forevermore. Keep me in Your bosom. Heal me oh Lord, and please help me, be near me and never let me go. Write my name in Your Book of Life. Please prepare a place for me, in Your Father's House. Hear my prayer dear Lord. In Jesus mighty name, I pray. Amen **** May the Lord continue to be with you and strengthen you through any difficult journeys ahead. This is how our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ said we should pray.Matthew chapter 6 verse 9 to 13: "Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen." Now that you understand who Christ is, share Christ with others. Amen! Repent of your sins. Submit to Jehovah-God. Love God with all your heart, mind, body, soul, and spirit. Love one another. Forgive one another. It is written, "resist the devil, submit to God, and the devil will flee from you." Hate sin with all your heart, mind, body, soul, and spirit. Acts 11 vs. 15 to 16, " And as I began to speak, The Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, "John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

This is sad! One of the reasons ppl migrate from other places in the US to FL is because of the weather and surrounding beauty of the Atlantic n gulf. Every other year red tide is happening. SMH!

I saw the same thing in Apollo Beach two weeks ago!!! Just was not sharks but almost every type of fish in the bay at the very end of a canal. It was wild! Everything from tiny pin fish,mullet,sheep head to big ass tarpon,grouper,snapper etc etc. Even catfish more towards the surface. It was the only area that day that didnt choke you out. Sad...Did not fish them btw!

People need to put pumps in the canal that literally splash the water back into the canal. If everyone does it, it might be enough to oxygenate the water? I would say use boats but I think the carbon monoxide produced from combustion might outweigh the benefits? People need to either cool the water or get more oxygen into!

Get an electric leaf blower, attach a 4 inch PVC pipe and the end that goes into water attach a 90 degree elbow, or just straight pipe into water. Strap down the pipe on ground to hold down. This will aerate and provide oxygen to water while Red-tide moves out. Go to local feed and seed store and buy 50 pound bags of pure salt and spread in water. Salt is only a few dollars. This is really easy to do.

Nutrients in Red tides may cause physiological effects of these sharks to heighten, driving up salts which they release regularly to avoid drying out even tolerant of Salt water, probably losing body water also.

Here an idea put oxygen in the water just like a bait well. To create oxygen in the water the residents could help out. By each residences put a oxygen water respiration system in the water. That’s if they really care!

Its not red tide. Its algae blooms that are getting supercharged by phosphate runoff from Mosaic mines in Manatee County. They had a waste water leak that would have potentially overwhelmed the contaminant walls so the company chose to dump 170 million gallons into the bay and did not publicize it until weeks later.
