This is a career highpoint for Amy Adams. I could go on gushing about her performance.

One of my favorite scenes of this brilliant series. When Camille lets out that scream in the dressing room - it was like I could literally feel what she was feeling. Heart wrenching. She was so incredible in this series.

Me too. I always think about this show and revisit this scene. It was the best, you could feel its intensity. The camera darting across Camille's body. Adora continually outdoing herself as mother of the year.

Same! Bit tmi though as someone grew up in a small town.. even in the uk this is scarily accurate. G.F is a genius! family’s that values people prospectives over your own facts of reality It’s a hell that is maddening, you end up believing in it and in turn start to believe the lies and eventually driving you crazy to the point of their reality. My father is the adorea though and my mother is an Alan type evil. The best thing I did is leave everyone behind after I escaped the asylum they threw me into now I’m homeless-penny-less-friendless with nothing to my name and I’ve never felt this happy/free from the craziness they created from birth, it’s corny but evilness is not genetic and neither am I this show taught me so much as I lay hear frozen in an old garage infested with Vermon, need to get the book 💯 when I get sum money hahe x

Adora saying that Camille takes after her father's dark clothing and temperament is hilarious considering Adora takes after her mother, by being so loving while at the same time, being so detached and uncaring. Her mother I think in the books peeled off her skin when she had dry skin in front of her friends, and she wouldn't just wipe away smudges, but she would actually lick Adora. Adora learned her warped view of caring from this behavior and it is shown throughout the show what an impact it had made on her life. She now hurts through overcaring, poisoning her daughters because of her constant need to "care" and for her constant need to be the poor mother who the whole town sympathizes with. If Camille represents her father, then Adora represents her twisted mother.

If I were Camille, I would have never ever set foot in that godforsaken town again. That ”Mother” of hers is the devil

When Adora's voice got low I genuinely got scared. Patricia did such a great job.

Oof da I pretty much had the exact same moment about my self harm with my mom and I feel so hard with Camille in this moment. Especially the “well doesn’t matter your already ruined line” urghhh.

I feel sorry for Camille, she never was loved by her mother, and Amma literally really close ( unless if Amma was being her creepy self), but Camille really wanted the love from her mother that Marian and Amma have,. Adora really didn't love Camille too, because she reminds Adora of her dad.

no, Adora didn't love Camille because she wouldn't submit to being "taken care of" like amma or Marion.

@Indigo Exactly. It’s horrific. Munchhausen Syndrome by Proxy is such an incredibly sick and abusive mental illness. I simply cannot imagine all the helpless children ever subjected to this horror.

I truly wish Camille would have disowned herself from that family, if the story was not fiction. Truly toxic. I understand that ‘family is family’, but her happiness was completely compromised through her mother, childhood and the people of that town. I love Camille as a character - she may be struggling, she may make mistakes, but she is strong, smart and human. Watching this series, in a odd way, made me feel less alone in my mental health battles. Sometimes you feel incredibly alone in what you are feeling, and relating to this character strangely gave me some peace of mind and comfort. I wouldn’t wish Camille’s struggle with mental illness on anyone, but her survival and steps towards recovery in the final episode made me hopeful myself.

I never understood why her mom made her try on the dress that would show her scars
@gingahsnixx

to humiliate and exert her power over her. in the book she basically begs her to get a different dress and when her mother tries embarrassing her further she starts saying "momma you KNOW why i cant wear that. PLEASE just get me the dress i asked for" it was all to humiliate her and strip her of the power she had gained being away from them, as her mother knew and saw hers scars beforehand.

@Booper Dooper exactly!!! not only that but she knows camille is extremely ashamed, showing that to someone who camille saw as "the cool kid of this era" probably brings back feelings of unworthyness from high school and making her show herself as "proof" of her being filthy. love all of the details from this book

Couple of things to punish Camille show how bad she was and broken she was to Amma (mana). But if Adora truly had much on their proxy she would be eating up Camille scars but she also had the burden of narcissism. Which canceled out Camille scars because they're ugly A child being sick and get sympathy at children old self-harming can get sympathy but also can ruin a reputation
@gingahsnixx

@@luxbledstone this is a really shit take. i dont think camilles scars were ugly. youre letting bias get in the way of analyzing the show, and youre thinking of it in a surface level.
