I'm really into my bugout right now too. They eat cardboard for breakfast. And I completely agree. Now that I have a wicked edge, most knives other people tell me are sharp just feel average, or dull even.

Thank you. I've learned more in this one video than I have from watching numerous videos from wicked edge.

When I first started sharpening I didn’t know the exact bevel angles but I knew lower cuts better with a good HT steel and took a bugout to about 13 degrees , lol 😝. It never rolled but looked a little funky .

Great video. I used to have the wicked edge go, but I sold it and have the Work sharp precision adjust. I found that the wicked edge would sharpen one side of the bevel thicker than the other side. Every time I would put a knife on and sharpen it, it would happen even with an angle cube with matching angles. Does that ever happen to you?

After I started to get used to the WE I noticed the same thing, the bevel would be taller on one side when I’m done. What I found as the cause is that the blades come from the factory with uneven grinds most often. The edges are done by hand on a wheel so it comes down to the skill of the sharpener at the factory. If you’ve got a knife at home that you haven’t sharpened yet, take a close look at the bevel. You’ll see that it’s asymmetrical from left to right and probably from heel to tip too. So even if you’re careful to remove the same amount off of each side and use the same angle, it’s still only ever going to reflect the same grind that it showed up with. The key is recognizing it when you start and removing more metal on the thick side to get the bevel where you want it.

@big_hands thank you that's what I was thinking the actual blade handle and geometry of the blade might be off a bit? Sometimes it would be close, thank you!

how long did it take/how did you break in the stones?

I’d say it takes maybe a dozen knives to get WE stones broken in. I guess you could cut that number down by doing some heavy re-profiling on a larger fixed blade or two.

I’m a big fan of compression lock Spydercos. If you want to be a bit off the beaten path though, TRM Atom is excellent and Tactile Knife Co make sweet stuff too

Why is it everybody that works on a knife? Getting ready to shop in with it? Why is it you guys always seem like you’re so out of breath and when you swallow, you act like you’re taking your last breath I cannot figure it out. The only thing I can compare it to is your breathing is that or someone that is morbidly obese, that he’s trying to walk fast and then stops

Getting ready to shop in with it? I’m having a hard time understanding what you’re saying. And I guess I don’t pay close attention to the way other men breathe when they work on knives. Not picking up what you’re putting down with that either
