You have great skills with the camera. I’ve been playing with my silvey and getting a “feel” for it since we were going back and forth. The way you can zoom in on cutters helped a great deal, Thanks! I’d have been sort of lost without ya even though it’s a different machine the end product is what matters, and to quote someone I’ve heard before, “She Cuts Eh?”

I get it but I don't use my chainsaws enough to get the grinder. That's not a criticism. I have many thousands invested in other sharpening gear for my woodshop. But the great thing about this video is that it teaches the subtleties of Sharpening. Lots of variables, lots of detail decisions and skills to master. But it's worth it. Sharpening is one of those skills where you never stop learning or refining your technique. Tiny adjustments can make a huge difference. Bevel angle, skew, hook, depth of cut, type of grinding stone etc. Timber is a demanding mistress.

I have been experimenting quite a bit over the last year with my princess auto Oregon style grinder... I have been saving chains that are good and cooked to play with. I'm not quite to where I want yet but I sure enjoy the process. I made a mount for the grinder so I can put it on a speaker stand and get it right up to eye level so I can really see what's going on. Thanks for showing your grinds, it will certainly help.

iv been looking to get a new mower. and yeah they are like 5 to 7 grand. i have three acres at what point of buying a new mower and or paying someone to mow the lawn and saving 2 to 3 hours of riding the lawn mower, weed wacking, pulling out the push mower for under the pine trees and spots that the big mower cant get. but at what point will that break even. i generally mow the lawn like once a week. so probably 14 to 20 times a year.

Nice video. I have a few video on my channel talking about grinding. Once I got my 451c it totally changed my falling. A 5* degree side plate angle is good. The tooth heals back in the cut cuz the working corner of the tooth is higher then the raker so when the tooth is cutting wood the tooth heals back till the raker touches the wood. Making the 5* degree side plate almost 0. The lower your raker are the more the tooth heals back changing your angles. That’s why I run my chains pretty snug. I hope that all makes sense. Stay safe my friend!

I was grinding chain on the opposite side so opening the arm to my left hand, chain was WAY down in the last grind or two stage before you start rippin off cutter teeth.........I opens the arm to check out the grind and I'm up under the top plate, got the corner amd all the things right, well I reach over with my right hand to lift the backing arm that holds the tooth to turn it up to my work light...........damn grinder almost falls over, dust flying off the stone, and I'm thinkin what n hell is goin on, smell stone dust and burnt skin and again thinkin what n hell is goin on? Well my middle finger knuckle had hit the bottom corner of the stone when I reached across and laced my finger open like a scalpel about an 1" long, cut so clean it never did bleed but three drops! Barely missed the tendon and earnt 10 stitches in and inch of didget, needless to say that slowed my firewood cuttin up a touch. Same exact grinder our pal is usin in this here video, so from a big dummy not only chain is sharp after it touches a properly dressed stone haha!! If your just learnin on a grinder like this, take yer time fellas.......it's not a race and you'll appreciate it alot when you have that look buckin explained the first time yer grind cuts eh!

Is there a grinder that you would recommend that does a square grind that isn’t 1500$! Iv been looking at them lately and there are sooo many to choose from and it seems most have about 50-50 good vs bad reviews. I just figure as deep in sharpening and saws and your connections you might know of a grinder that works well for a homeowner for a reasonable price.
