Nobody talks about the performances in which Hayden proved himself as one good actor...so underrated this guy jeez

I think the most underrated aspect of Christensen's performance was how brilliantly he was able to play Glass as meek, mild-mannered and self-effacing. Glass duped so many people for so long because they never thought him capable of breaking the rules, much less make things up out of thin air. It takes a certain amount of confidence to be this openly deceptive with such wild stories and never get called out on it by those you work so closely with. It literally took someone who never met him to stop think "wait a minute, this all sounds like a crock!". The real life Glass is no looker; he's very nerdy looking and gives off the "virgin that still lives with his mother" vibes. Exactly the type of guy people would say "he doesn't have the balls to even jay walk". Christensen on the other hand is tall, athletic and handsome, the polar opposite of Glass, someone who in high-school could get away with murder based on charms alone. But Christensen, to his incredible credit, managed to come off as weak, pathetic and insecure, not only in his dialogue, but most importantly, in his body language. His eyes and posture every time he asked "are you mad at me" and "did I do something wrong" was brilliant, and the little things along the way, such as when he think that Chuck is starting to believe his story out in Hacker Conference explaining where everyone sat at the table. He has this very bright smile, the opposite of duper's delight, so genuine in his belief that he and Chuck are agreeing with each other. Or the other great little moment, when after Chuck removes him from the office and then Glass gets a security guard to let him back inside the office and you can hear him all smiles and pleasantries, and only 90 seconds later, he alludes to Chuck that he is suicidal. I completely forgot I was watching Christensen in a performance and really believed I was watching a real person desperately try to worm his way out of trouble.

I find it upsetting to watch this because this film was shot a year later after "SW - attack of the clones" but Hayden Christensen's acting is exponentially better here. It's clear his performance in the prequel trilogy was negatively influenced by Lucas' directing, which is an absolute travesty.

this movie is so good and I had a knot in my stomach watching this scenes, Steve's pathological lying was so cringy, I felt embarrassed and as if I was getting caught in a lie. And this guy just went on and on... I know people like that they need help!!! Hayden gave amazing performance as a guy who's getting lost in his lies and totally transformed the way he speaks, moves, mimics... actually everyone in this movie is great! Sarsgaard acting was top class without even saying anything!

Hackers conference was real, it was the week after the drug dealers Gala and the child pornographers annual dinner.

The real Stephen Glass was even more of a worm than Hayden's portrayal. In reality he tried to manipulate his coworkers and Marty Peretz into thinking that Chuck Lane was the real villain and get him fired. Fortunately Lane was too smart for this and by the end he had overwhelming evidence of Glass's fraud.

If you listen to the excellent commentary track on the dvd Chuck Lane states that even here at this meeting he was already highly suspicious of Stephen's story and he just sat poker faced listening to him digging himself further into a ditch lol.

I'm amazed the real Stephen Glass didn't submit a piece about the Bowling Green Massacre.

What if the call went like: “Hi Stephen, we just have a few questions about your story Hack Heaven...” “Oh that one? I made the whole thing up lol” “Eyyyy lmao”

The look on Rosario Dawson's face when she sees the "website" is priceless. She's like, "Who the hell does this guy think he's fooling?"

Stephen: "Are we off the record?" Forbes guy: "If you like." Girl: picks up pen and starts writing Hot damn girl

It's over Stephen, Forbes has the high ground!

The beauty of this movie is that it tricks you into thinking Chuck is the asshole bad guy, but he is in fact the hero and tries to be accommodating to Glass, even having a private phone call with the Forbes guy to minimize the blowback on Glass.

This movie is so damn good. I took an ethics class for my journalism major at SIUC and we watched this!!

Can you imagine doing this, being Glass, knowing the whole thing was bullshit? What did he think was gonna happen?

If only Hayden pulled a Pattinson and do more dramatic roles after his big franchise role. He's definitely got the acting chops to pull it off.

I feel sorry for the real guy this movie is based on.

It's terrible to think about how bad Hayden Christensen's career was derailed by the horrible direction he received in the Star Wars prequels. He was a very promising actor, ruined by a franchise that has overstayed its welcome and it's a shame.

Anyone who has lied ever knows this is a perfect example of how a lie turns into another lie that turns into another lie. Better just live a life where you can be as honest as possible because lies are too hard to keep track of.

This movie is loaded with young actors back then who are now known. Melanie Lynskey, Steven Zahn, Rosario Dawson, Peter Saarsgard, Chloe Sevigny. Hayden Christensen was well known because of Star Wars but the others not so much.

I always hated it when he walked into the office holding his pen in his mouth (1:00). When I see people do that, it makes it look like they're working very hard and persistently, but I don't see why it would hurt to just keep it in your pocket until you need it. It's small enough to fit in any pocket, even when pockets are full. People just annoy me when they hold things in their mouth.

Everyone raves about Hayden’s acting, which is undeniably good here…but he does the same sort of whining that he did as Anakin yet y’all hated that. Lol. Hayden is good at playing emotionally troubled people, primarily because his voice gives in naturally to a whine.

Chuck is annoying.

I don’t know....Hayden just never comes off as genuine in his roles. He just feels like he’s reciting lines instead of encompassing a character. I can’t buy any parts he’s in.

Hayden's acting in this is thankfully better than his atrocious performance in the Star Wars films. But he's still not great, he's actually a very boring actor and doesn't have much screen presence at all
