The Bomb Hole

Күн бұрын

Did he leave snowboarding or did snowboarding kick him out? Arguably the best to ever do it, Shaun White has accumulated dozens of medals including multiple Olympic golds and even two perfect 100 run scores in pipe. Wearing pants tighter than most and a stance wider than anyone else at the top of the pipe, he managed to make a truly timeless impact on the sport. For years he was miles ahead of the competition, going bigger and faster than the rest. Now he's focusing his energy on his new snowboard brand: Whitespace, and plans to be a part of the snowboard community for the foreseeable future. Find out where it all started, and possibly even where it all went wrong, on this week's monumental episode of The Bomb Hole!

Its impossible to overstate what the Bomb Hole provides to this community. This is a conversation about a person and their legacy that we have desperately needed for 20 years. The same ppl who hate on Shaun are the same ppl who begged their parents to buy them a Dragon or a SW Pro Model. I was there, I saw them do it. We ALL wanted to be him. The honesty and the courage to face this narrative speaks to his character, and also to the BOMB HOLE PLATFORM. This podcast is saving Snowboarding.

He hit the nail on the head describing it as “high school” behaviour… dudes an entrepreneur, grew up quick and had his head on his shoulders, ahead of his time. Hearing about how you turned down sponsors that wouldn't represent the sport well and how you pushed back against the party and drugs scene in favor or hard work and safekeeping your career a bit shows a lot of character I think. Hats off

I know Shaun is a lightning rod person in shredding, but there’s no denying that his talent was and is next level, once in a generation. While I may not like the spin to win era that he is largely responsible for kicking off and prefer the stilo of a Michalchuk to a double cork 1440, he did what the judges were rewarding and is a true competitor. There’s also no telling where snowboarding would be worldwide without him bringing such international hype to the pipe. Pretty insane to think about really.

I can remember seeing him in Govy and wanting to say hi and maybe even ask for a picture, but the pressure was to just ignore that he was there. I respect the hell out of this conversation, the bomb hole has really made a space for me to reminisce about the whole lifestyle and just rowdiness we all got into. I didn’t expect a podcast to make me reflect on myself and grow as a snowboarder while not even strapped in. I have to admit that I was not the biggest Shaun White fan but it had nothing to do with him personally and more to do with the fact that the media portayed him as the "best snowboarder in the world". As a PNW guy snowboarding was all about powder and the backcountry and I thought the fact that guys like Terje, Travice Rice, Jeremy Jones, etc were not discussed was frustrating. Again, this not not Shaun's fault. I would love to see Shaun compete in Natural Selection or do an AK part in a movie so he can showcase other elements of his snowboarding portfolio.

Loved the episode. Thanks to Shaun to opening up and giving us an honest take on his career and past. The Canadian snowboarder busted for weed was Ross Rebagliati. I met him a few years ago. He's such an awesome dude.

I just saw the Red Gerard pod a few weeks ago. You guys mentioned how Shaun might not ever make it on to the podcast. Glad you guys made it happen!

Jones and Chris are both superb in the way they presented the questions and their ability to listen is second to none And both great snowboarders in their own right! This was a great interview, Shaun really is an amazing dude ! We are all blessed to have him around, those who don’t realize this will eventually. Reminds me of Mx , Jeremy McGrath is a perfect example of a great giving back to the sport that gave him so much.

Absolutely massive insight - shaun we love you. Thanks for all youve done for the sport. Hope this is part of a healing experience… god it must have been hard and isolating… that can destroy the best of them yet you persevered. What character. Excited to see your future impact on the sport. And BH loving these heavy hitters and loving jones as a cohost, way to let the guest speak!!

When i started snowboarding in the late 80s early 90s, half pipe runs were a challenge to just navigate the lumps and chanels carved in the wall. Now runs and riders are precise like a figure skater where body position is held to rigid standard
