Absolutely. If Seattle had not moved their franchise, Kemp's jersey would be hanging in the rafters. May NBA one day come back to Seattle, and we can all see him get that respect. Even if he doesn't go to the Hall of Fame, and I wish he would, he should get this.

For a guy 6'10", he sure didnt move like other guys that size in that era. Kemps speed was blinding, his jump shot was wet, an he handled that ball like no other big man has, he always finished strong at the basket. He had all around talent, was ungaurdable most of times. Will always be a favorite of mine.

@rbfclaboratoryandstudio
@rbfclaboratoryandstudio 2 жыл бұрын
A class act all the way. Reign man was a great teammate and leader. So much hustle on offense, defense, and transition. He worked to improve every aspect of his craft until he became one of the best power forwards to ever play. What a huge heart he played with too, a warrior. He was never very arrogant or adversarial, save for flamboyance and eccentricity, but he loved to compete with a great sense of purpose, pride and sportsmanship, as much as anyone I’ve ever seen, and he let the expression of that manifest itself through the play of his game. A true competitor is one who elevates to unexpected heights in the most intense moments of battle and that was Shawn Kemp. He deserved having more of these crunch opportunities come his way in Seattle, to further challenge him, but I will never forget the spirit in which he played this game. So much thanks and respects for Shawn Kemp.

If he played today his highlight real would be through the roof. Way more space to muscle down and jam. He'd create so many double teams and just swing it to wide open 3shooters.
@sundromos9456
@sundromos9456 2 жыл бұрын
Mid-range shooting was a strong feature of Shawn's game...Everyone goes on and on about the jams and the twisty writhing shorts shots, but when he developed that short jumper from 15 feet it elevated his game immensely. BTW, Gary Payton was such a brilliant passer-deceptive and rarely off-target. He always put the ball dead-on where it needed to go. And his consistent ability to back down defenders, then pop a step-back or improvise a tear-drop layup was lethal.

Kemp was thought of at the time as a guy with crazy hops and highlight-reel dunks but not as a guy who could dominate an NBA game. 1. Maravich 2. Jordan 3. James 4. Jokic 5. Chamberlain So In this team I have 3 of the top 10 best passers ever (1,3,4). I have 4 of the top 10 best scorers ever (1,2,3,5) and the 5th player can also score 30-40 points any given night (4). I have 3 of the top 10 most athletic stars ever at their positions (2,3,5). I have 3 of the top 10 defensive star players ever (2,3,5). I have the best rebounder ever (5) and the rest are all great rebounders for their position. I have 2 of the top 10 highest basketball IQ players ever (3,4). I have 2 of the best point forwards ever (3,4) and a very good point guard also (1). All these players usually have a height advantage for their position (1,2,3,4,5), and so on. The "of the top 10" argument is not based purely on their statistics but altogether ability and statistics. I have 2 centers in the team, but Jokic plays a points center and a stretch center so he spends most of his time playmaking and running around the three point line finding open shooters, cutters or waiting for a pick and roll.

40 was on fire this whole series. Whoever had more games at home, won this series. Seattle was every bit Chicago's equal this year. They had to keep this up tempo going all night. When Chi was able to slow it down, you saw the maturity difference kick in. But talent wise, this was a phenomenal match up.
@MikeBarbre
@MikeBarbre 4 жыл бұрын
Chicago simply couldn't solve for Shawn Kemp that series. The Bulls beat the our Sonics, very true. Still the greatest team ever. But they didn't beat Kemp. Shawn was the ultimate mismatch for whomever was covering him. Shawn Kemp had, in this '96 postseason, achieved the potential the world laid on him when he came into the Association seven years earlier. His versatility on the blocks was too much, and by the end of the '96 season, his zenith as a professional, he finally (and consistently) found his range 18 feet and in. You saw it in this series and in those playoffs. You simply couldn't lay off Kemp from 18 feet and assume he'd miss anymore. You had to cover him regardless of where he was. Unfortunately, in the end, Shawn Kemps ego (and Sonics' inept management) failed him and his career was ruined in CLE, with the lockout, and elsewhere he played. But for this series, this year, we here in Seattle finally saw The Reign Man achieve his amazing, gravity-defying potential. #WhatCouldHaveBeen #BringBackOurSonics #GoSonics

I thought 96’ was the least competitive of the Bulls 6 titles, or at least, there was the lowest sense of danger of the Bulls losing. The Lakers only won 1 game, but it was the first game so at least they were up then, and they very nearly took a 2-1 lead in the series. Jordan had to hit a difficult shot over Vlade’s outstretched arm for force OT in game 3. The 92’ Finals were even after 4 games, and Portland was up by 15 in the 4th in game 6. The Suns had HCA and were up by 8 in the 4th Q of game 6. A Game 7 would have also been in Phoenix. In the 97’ Finals, 4 of the 6 games went down to the wire (games 2-3 did not). In 98’, only one game (the game 3 massacre) did not go down to the wire. That was a very evenly matched series. The pacing was very slow in those 2 series, not like the three Lakers-Celtics series of the 80s, but I always loved the closeness of the games. You knew most games would go down to the last couple of minutes. I never felt Seattle was really in it, they lost the first 3 games. They made a nice rally to make the series look more respectable, but the only way I thought they had a chance once the series started is if Jordan or Pippen had a serious injury.

The Sonics were really versatile and had some big shooters, so Longley had to stay in and guard Kemp. Not a good matchup for Longley. At least Dennis made it difficult, Kemp was just cooking Longley with ease.

0:47 These are the Jordan moments (there are many of them!) left out of all his highlight reels. A pathetic diving underhanded kerplunk, which Kemp sends back with both hands like he's playing patty-cake. Great reaction time from Shawn but in all honesty, not a very challenging offering from His Air-ness.

What the hell kind of carry was that at 1:14 lololol...he picks his dribble up, switches pivot feet; no call lol. Bwhahahahah, that nut shot at 3:03 is classic. Rodman playing along. Perverted ass Marv Albert of course has to say the word facial as usual.

Kemp was such a team player. He deserved a bigger role, he seemed to just play within the offense without complaint. Pay #40

If Detlef and especially Nate weren't suffering injuries that series, Sonics likely win and are deemed the best team ever. They steam rolled teams during the regular season. In a 33 game stretch they had the largest point differential of all time. People always look at offense, but Nate, The Glove, Hawkins, and even Askew sometimes in rotation, was arguably the best defensive backcourt. Jordan didn't do too well the games Nate played and the Sonics didn't just win, they blew the Bulls out of the arena those 2 games.

😏 Nah 👋🏼 The Bulls could have raised their intensity if the Supersonics were healthier ✅ It seemed like they were bored 😴 with them after winning the 1st 3 games and just 🤷🏽‍♂️ wanted to finish them off at home in front of the United Center's crowd.

Kemp was the best player in that NBA Finals. He averaged 23.3 point and 10 rebounds a game. Not even Jordan was better. Probably his weakest showing in a finals.

Still haven’t seen another prime Shawn Kemp in this league. He’s better than Blake as he can knock down long 2s and make threes
