The band still plays with all original members. 96Tears is the official rock n roll song of Bay City MI where it was recorded in a living room -btw this is the first band of MEXICAN descent to score a #1 hit on Billboard-

I heard a long time ago that the original keyboard part was done by one of the members grandmothers who played the organ in church. Not sure if that’s true but it’s a cool story and I hope it is.
@ItsSusieQue96
@ItsSusieQue96 2 жыл бұрын
@@Robocline absolutely NOT TRUE. The keyboard part was in fact written and performed by Frank Rodriguez at the tender age 0f 13 -- he was the ONLY band member with any formal music training, having started playing piano at age 3 or 4. That's actually a more amazing story than saying an adult was responsible. (I'm their publicist...kinda have the inside scoop lol)

My dad was obsessed with this song back then and still is. He even blasts the Spanish version at eardrum shattering levels and always gets me to dance with him the way Question Mark dances in the video. It's so much fun seeing my 75 year old pop still working it like he did in 1966 at 20! Lol.

You’re partly right but Que’s legal name is not as you listed and I’m sure you meant Frank Lugo. Also Que can’t stand the term “Latino”. If you call him that, he will ask you to show him a country by that name. It is his opinion, with which I concur, that terms like Latino and Hispanic are designed to strip people of their nationalities and heritage.

Roby Cip, I suggest that you look at a book called "500 years of Chicano History In Pictures" by Elizabeth Martinez. No heavy reading it's like looking at a photo album. Arizona and Texas have attempted to ban this book, in their respective states. Perhaps you local library might have a copy.

Not exactly but you are close. They are in fact the children of Mexican migrant farm workers but most of their parents were born in the US and some of the band were actually born in Michigan. Que is very proud of his Mexican heritage but really does not like the term “Mexican-American”...he says the hyphen stands for “will never quite be “ and that he is first and foremost AMERICAN of Mexican heritage.

Actually not a “one hit wonder”.., ? and the Mysterians charted a couple of other singles on Billboard including the follow up to 96 Tears “I Need Somebody” that got to #22 Unfortunately Neil Bogart and Alan Klein stole all the money from the bulk of the Cameo Parkway artists, the label was shut down by the Securities Exchange Commission and promotion of the Mysterians ceased. They have been one of the longest independent bands to exist-Bogart used their money to promote his label and KISS while Klein’s heirs in the form of ABKCO Records still have a stranglehold on the Mysterians material. BUT they are NOT a “one hit wonder”

Dear Mr Jenkins-Que’s legal name is NOT Rudy Martinez-that IS the name he listed for his songwriting credits. Call him that and see if he answers-one of his relatives might … I’ve been in a room with over 50 of his relatives and the same time and they ALL call him Que…. Btw, I’m a retired professional genealogist and have traced his family tree for him back many generations through Mexico where it clearly indicates through documentation that his family is descended from native tribes. So technically most all of you are wrong but he will tell you himself he is neither white nor black…he’s BROWN 😂

They once had a female Manager back in the day. She wanted them to record this song so the guys trudged over to her house and all that was there was their instruments and two room mic's. When you listen to this song, you are hearing it exactly as it was played, live in that woman's home. No overdubs, no outboard effects or re-amping. These guys were Latino Americans just like Los Lobos and when I was growing up, we didn't give a rats ass about skin color. If the music was cool and it was funky, we just loved it. The Youngbloods are another example of this. They were all Native American and they are so awesome. As a musician, I listen to the drummer and the bass, the guitar and keyboard, the vocals and the harmonies. It's beautiful music coming from beautiful people. Racism ends the moment politicians and the media stop talking about it. Just like these wonderful young people doing reaction videos; I think that is so COOL!! Nothing brings a smile like watching a young couple reacting to something they've never heard before. And they don't have to like it. They could just be honest and all of them are. Let's all be real. Leave the BS to those who profit off of it.

This is NOT TRUE. The song was never called that. That rumor was started by a former publicist and spurred on by one band member who thought that rumor would get more people to listen to the song for a hidden meaning. The song was originally released on a Mexican owned record company the band paid to press 500 copies and the song was already getting airplay before the band ever signed with a real label.

It was in fact John Lennon who described it as the "perfect rock song" -- he wanted to put it on his "Rock n Roll" LP but Allan Klein, of ABKCO records had stolen the rights to it and would not allow Lennon to use it. Lennon's logic for it being the perfect rock song was that 1) it had the perfect hook with the keyboard 2) it was under 3 minutes 3) it combined anger and revenge with a song you could dance to and 4) it was straight forward rock n roll Lennon was RIGHT
