She was the great song writer's Burt Bacharach's girl. He wrote so many hits for her including " Say A Little Prayer", " Walk on By," "Anyone Who had a Heart," "Promises, Promises," "What the World Needs Now" and "Don't Make Me Over." This song came out in 1963. It charted #5 on R&B, on Cash Box#17 and Billboard #21. They were were one of music crown jewels. Together they made magic happen. They were awesome. Side Note: She is the late Whitney Houston's aunt. You cannot go wrong going down the rabbit hole that is Dion Warwick & Burt Bacharach.

I read a short book about Hall David and Burt Bacharach's collaboration with Dionne Warwick. If you can find it, you will enjoy reading it. Try her doing more of their songs in "Say A Little Prayer", "Walk On By", "Do You Know The Way To San Jose", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "Alfie", "Anyone Who Had A Heart", "A House Is Not A Home", "Make It Easy On Yourself" and "Always Something There To Remind Me", all by Bacharach and David. I put this at 1964. Which would make her 24. This was her first big hit. Everything changed for her after this Bacharach/David classic. Listen to those whistle tones she perfected singing gospel music. On her live album from Harrah’s in Lake Tahoe, in 1981, entitled ‘Hot! Live! And Otherwise,’ she introduces this song by saying this next song is the very first record I ever sang in my life. It’s entitled ‘Don’t Make Me Over’ and it’s been a long time since we’ve sung this whole song. In fact, it’s been since 1964 since we done this whole song. And it’s still in the original key, eeee eee, and it’s still has the same lyrics it had that I never knew then. If I get through it, I want a standing ovation. And she absolutely nails it and gets her standing ovation.
