This song was originally billed as being performed by "Dionne and Friends", not Dionne Warwick alone. It was released in 1985 as a charity single to help raise money for AIDS research (AIDS was a rather new disease at the time). It raised over $3 million for that cause. Note: Dionne and Stevie had previously that same year been featured on the "We Are The World" collaboration as members of United Support of Artists (U.S.A.) for Africa.

Spiritual successor to 1985's "That's What Friends Are For" is 1999's "The Best Man I Can Be". '85, Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight & Stevie Wonder. '99, Ginuwine, RL, Case & Tyrese. "That's What Friends Are For" written and produced by RIP Burt Bacharach & Carole Sager. "The Best Man I Can Be" written and produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Miss Dionne was Burt Bacharach's muse, Janet Jackson was Jimmy Jam's & Terry Lewis' muse.

Back in the day we were more united, friendly, accepting of each other's differences. We didn't need anybody to tell or force us. Today people hate other people just because of different political opinions. A friend meant a friend no matter what. More humane, more human. Not angry all the time. Good friends last a lifetime. About the song and singers. I loved both Dionne and Gladys hair bouncing around . Beautiful classy ladies. Stevie harmonica simply great. Elton looking stylish. Great harmonizing. So, happy were they. I believe this song was to benefit AIDS.

That's What Friends Are For" is a song written by Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager. It was first recorded in 1982 by Rod Stewart for the soundtrack of the film Night Shift, but it is better known for the 1985 cover version by Dionne Warwick,[1] Elton John, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder. This recording, billed as being by "Dionne Warwick & Friends", was released as a charity single for AIDS research and prevention. It was a massive hit, becoming the number-one single of 1986 in the United States, and winning the Grammy Awards for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Song of the Year. It raised more than $3 million for its cause… 👍🏻😁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I’m a 58 Black woman who has always loved Elvis, Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, Elton John and many others since I was a kid. There was a lot of diversity within the music community. Even in the Jim Crow era, bands were more racially integrated than the rest of the country. Music is music. We don’t care who sings it or what they look like. The only thing that matters is: does it sound good?

She's been a famous singer for years I'm 61 and she was famous when I was a child. She was the chief singer for one of Americas biggest and best song writer/producer/composer Mr Burt Bacharach(pronounced back a rack) in the 1950s-1990s and beyond. He's a Grammy and Oscar winning song writer My mother told me it was believed that he and Ms Warwick were believed to be secretly lovers and that's why she was given his songs to sing. Its also believed that This House Is Not A Home(which he wrote) is his song about her not the the woman he was publicly dating at the time. All of that comes from 80 to 90 year old woman who were mothers during my childhood years who questioned Ms Warwick being his singer of his music back in those days. I don't know if that is true but it is very possible it could be given the fact that in the 60s it was still an issue to Inter racially date. He wrote this song and Ms. Warwick recorded this with Elton, Gladys and Stevie for charity to benefit the HIV/AIDS crisis

You cant beat the 80's. Artist now wont put in the work and effort they did back then. I remember this from when I was a kid. Great then, great now.

Please react to Dionne's song "All the love in the world "written by the Bee Gees.Dionne Warwick has been a brilliant talented vocalist since the 60s.She is also Whitney Houston's cousin.Elton John and Gladys added fire to the song.
