1:45 just cause an animal is smaller definitely DOES NOT mean they are easier to take care of. It’s actually the opposite. They are just easier to neglect.

Where I live it is even illegal to have hedgehogs as pets because they are considered wildlife. Crazy what's allowed in the US.

I think a Ferret would be best! Theyre super playful and friendly! Definitely look into it ☺️ They love to be held and are super fun! My aunt had one and he was definitely so playful!

Hedgehogs are great, but really high maintenance pets. They also usually don't like being held or cuddled at all. Sometimes you get lucky and you get one that does enjoy it, but it's rare. If you want a pet that's easy and great for a first pet AND looooooooves attention and being handled (if raised properly) I highly recommend tame rats and mice. They are extremely smart and cuddly and love interacting with humans. You should always keep them with at least 2 others though. I really hope that if you get a hedgehog, you really do all the research and don't just trust what the pet store tells you. They are more than often wrong about pet care. I'm sure whatever animal you get, you will take great care of it. But please do enough research.

sugar gliders and hedgehogs are both super high maintenance pets. every hedgehog I've met did not like to be held at all and were kind of aggressive. a ferret or guinea pig or chinchilla might be a better route because they like to be held and what not.

hedgehogs are really high maintenance, i would really reccomend you dont get one if its ur first pet. i have about 28 pets at the moment including a dog , fishes, shrimps an eel, hedgehog, cat an axolotl and multiple parrots. What i would recommend is if you want an animal that u can hold and will cuddle with you get a parrot. Budgies, cocktiels and green conures are the best option but make sure u get a tamed one, they will talk too! rest is upto you ofc :)

Between hedgehogs and sugar gliders I'm glad she chose hedgehogs as sugar gliders are extremely high maintenance and certainly not for a first time pet. Hedgehogs aren't a beginner pet either mind you, but still better than sugar gliders. I advise her to interact with one from a friend or a breeder of them for awhile first before deciding that a hedgehog is the way to go. Also, dwarf aquatic frogs cannot be held (that goes for mostly all frogs) because contact with human skin can make them sick.

Those girls are growing up so fast. They went from little girls to young ladies in about a year it feels like.

I feel like a ferret would really suit you, Addison! They're friendly, cute and soft, and you can hold them, snuggle them, hang out on your bed with them and play with them. They're also about the same maintenance as a hedgehog. You should go look at some and see what you think at least! 💕

Addison, hedgehogs are mostly nocturnal like hamsters and they can get very noisy.

Sugar gliders are awesome. You can hold them and they like to sleep in your shirts. They are great pets.

I have a hedgehog, and would honestly advise against it if Addison wants a pet she can hold/cuddle as they are NOT fans of it! They’re very jumpy and can easily poke you!

Hedgehogs are very different animals to take care of. They are not the most friendly animals either(they are mainly nocturnal and timid). They are pron to alot of illnesses and most good care takers can only keep them alive for 2-5 years. I would recommend reconsidering to a chinchilla!!!! And please everyone do extensive research before adopting a pet.

Hedgehogs are the sweetest pets!! I had one when I was in high school and loved him to pieces! If you are to get one, however, be ready to work! They need baths and cage cleanings very often, especially because of their lil paws and claws! Also, a lot of products branded toward hedgehogs are really bad for them, so you have to be very thorough in your research when getting stuff for them! Boy hedgehogs are definitely sweeter than the girls are! They spend a lot of time sleeping and love to crawl into tight warm places, like your hoodie pocket or hood when you hold them! Though they are a lot of work and are slow to warm up to a lot of people, they truly are the coolest pet out there

I think a hamster would be a great pet for Addison! I used to have a Syrian hamster (although he passed away about 2 weeks ago, unfortunately). Syrian hamsters are usually very kind, once they are tamed (which is fairly easy to do), and they love to run on wheels, chew on toys,etc. Syrian hamsters are also usually ok with being held by their owners, once a bond is formed:) Hamsters are also not too high maintenance. Although I'm sure that whatever animal Addison chooses, she will take great care of it. Have fun with your new pet, whatever you end up choosing, Addison!

Hedgehogs are great and really cute but I really don’t recommend one. They are on the more difficult side to look after and are VERY high maintenance. Most also aren’t great at handling as they can be huffy, hiss and puff up. Also they do eat bugs! So if she’s not a huge fan of bugs etc I wouldn’t recommend a hedgehog as live bugs are a big part of their diet. I noticed she liked a few of the tortoises and there was one you mentioned that you liked but it got quite big. If you where interested in a tortoise that doesn’t get too big I would recommend a Russian/HorseField tortoise. They don’t get very big at all and make great pets in my opinion. And it’s and even bigger bonus they don’t eat bugs 😊

If I can offer some advice, sugar gliders and hedgehogs are both exotic pets and not recommended for beginners. But I’m glad you didn’t get sugar gliders because I heard they are loud at night and just harder to care for in general. For a hedgehog the only thing is some don’t like to be held, they are quite stinky as far as their 💩 and they are loud at night if you have a wheel in their cage (which they need to exercise on). Also I think the minimum cage requires a 2ft by 3ft for 1 hedgehog and the wheel they need is called a “Carolina storm wheel” or bucket wheel (check online to buy it) which is quite noisy as they will run on it all night long. Also be aware if they get sick you have to go to an exotic animal vet and the bill will be hefty since they are exotic animals. They also like to live alone! That’s all I know about hedgehogs! I hope this helps! I’ve considered getting one for the past year now! 😊

I've owned turtles for over 20 years and am a Veterinary Tech and Professional Pet Sitter. TURTLES are are high maintenance and can live near 40 years in captivity! That's a long commitment. HEDGIES are also super high maintence and are most awake a NIGHT! I made Theb commitment around her age with turtles and I wish I didn't, even though I do love them . Ferrets for sure are great option!.

I have 10 sugar gliders and they are extremely fun pets but also have much higher care requirements than most pets and you need to have more than one as they are a colony animal. Sugar gliders also need a homemade diet and vitamins The commercial dry foods are not adequate enough. A hedgie is a great first choice. Congrats Addison!

As a previous owner of a hedgehog personally I would never get another! I loved him but again like many of the comments he didn’t like being held and when I first got him, he hissed a lot and was very antisocial, to gain their trust it takes a lot of bonding and takes a long time!

Definitely do some research before you get it! I had gotten a rat when I was 16 (without doing research) and boy was I in for a treat. Hedgehogs from what I understand are also high maintenance animals. Try talking to a owner of a hedgehog rather than a worker at a pet store. Not all the time do they know what they are talking about! I wish her the best of luck with her hedgehog!

Addison should get a chinchilla! They’re soooo cute and friendly & in my experience love being held (more so after adapting to new surroundings ) and rarely bite!

I had a hedgehog 🦔 for 6 months. They are my favourite animal!! I thought I could handle it(in my 20’s). It stunk. It used its squeaky wheel all night, and it bit me. I had to use gardening gloves to handle it.

Get a Ferret!! They love to be held and love to play my girls had one for so many years he was our bb he loved our labs and they played so cute together really you won't regret it!!! He loved to roam the house and while out he went in a litter box oh we so loved our boy!! Go and play with one in the pet store my friend had a hedge hog they DONT LIKE TO BE HELD! YOU'LL REGRET IT!!!

Make sure you get a yorkie from a reputable breeder, they are prone to many illnesses and such because they are over bred

I definitely think a ferret is a much better choice. They are more cuddly and people friendly. I think the novelty of a hedgehog would wear off very quickly. Or even a mini bunny is a good first pet. I had several growing up and they were fun too.

Rats would actually be a perfect pet for her. They are super sweet and gentle. Great for kids.

Cute pets that like interaction are Guinea Pigs. My grandkids have some and they love feeding them! (Just keep males and females apart, they procreate at a high rate if you aren't careful.) Hedgehogs are cute to look at. I saw one in the forest in Germany when I was an exchange student. I didn't touch it so I don't know Joe they feel. Good luck, Addison! You will do great!

FYI, I have two African Dwarf frogs and you do have to have more than one. But also it is not recommended to hold them as they are fragile and they cannot survive outside of water for long. Do it would be brief. Not something to get if you want to pet and hold. They are easy to take care of if you want them as a tank friend. I know that’s not what she chose, but FYI for future kid pet ideas. They get along well with my guppies too.

The most easy to maintain is a dog or a cat. Little animals with different types of knowledge and cares could be hard to go.

I’m happy she chose a hedgehog! I had one in high school. My hedgehog refused to eat anything but meow mix cat food. My hedgehog also liked to run on her wheel at nighttime so I didn’t keep her in my room. Hedgehogs are prone to illnesses but I did not have to deal with that because I got mine from a reputable breeder. I found that having a hedgehog was easy and really enjoyable. You have to feed them everyday and clean out their cage whenever it gets dirty. Its much easier than having a cat or a dog. It’s also good to play with them everyday. I would have mine run around the house or cuddle with me while I did homework. Once they become familiar with you, they’ll put their quills down and they are very easy to hold. If they get startled and put their quills up, it doesn’t hurt too bad.

Sugar gliders are amazing animals they do screetch and they also do fly and live to land on people but it's hard eith the screeching love u guys hedgehogs are amazing as well

Oh my goodness! I have 5 hedgehogs their names are Marshmallow, Huxley, Posey, Stella and Quillow! and I definitely recommend them as a pet . Although they are high maintenance they’re super sweet and make amazing pets! It really depends on the kid and their responsibility but I believe that Addison would be an amazing hedgehog owner, here are some thing to know about them: they quill which means they loose their quills when they’re a baby and around 1 years old aswell. they eat cat kibble do not buy hedgehog food it is bad for them. They need a bath everyone once a month because if you bathe them too often it dries out the natural oils in their skin and makes them have dandruff. They should have a pretty huge cage with lots of room! Do not use bedding it’s so messy and gets everywhere instead use fleece! I’m their cage they need cat kibble but not kitten food or even wet food, they need a heat lamp because they’re very sensitive to temperature if they’re too cold or too hot they can die easily, and they need a wheel to run on at night, as they are nocturnal. They aren’t usually nosy at night so they shouldn’t wake you up in the middle of night. Hedgehogs are solitary animals so they do best alone in a cage without other animals. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them because I’ve have had several experience with them! Love your vids by the way!!💓💓💓

Your hedgehog is going to be in a spike ball for the first many times you hold it or reach in its cage. It’s their defense mechanism for when they’re scared. But witH regular handling it should calm down/relax a bit for it to not be in as tight of a spike ball when you hold it. Eventually it’ll be comfortable enough to be held without being a spike ball. You’re also going to need to learn to like bugs because for a hedgehog to have a proper diet it’ll need fresh fruits, and bugs such as roaches, crickets, & spiders. Sugar gliders can be held, it’s just tricky. They are active, but mostly at night since they’re nocturnal. They are a marsupial so they love sleeping in pouches, so you can hold one by holding the pouch they’re in. The biggest downside to having sugar gliders is that they pee on everything, it gets everywhere. The entire inside of the cage, as well as on parts of the outside of the cage, and the wall if the cage is by a wall. Also their pee stinks, you’ll clean the cage and your hands will still smell a bit like sugar gliders pee even after you wash your hands. Just some fact about owning both of these animals. I have owned both of these, currently I own 2 hedgehogs, and around 8 sugar gliders.

Hedgehogs are really hard to maintain, you have to be patient with them because they’re constantly afraid of everything. I own four hedgehogs, and even though taking care of them takes me a lot of time, specially when cleaning up their cage (which the smell is absolutely strong, not really disgusting but is strong), but is worth it, they’re absolutely adorable when they learn to trust you and i would say they’re really interesting animals. You just have to be responsable with cleaning up their cage often and giving them the right food (insects, fruit, vegetables,etc).
