@@bryanoldaker3730 lol, to be honest, I don't know because I was focused on knock retard and the AFR's. She definitely wanted to rev out more, but since it's the first time we've hit boost in that part of the map, I didn't want to stay in it too long. Time to get her on a dyno so we can stay safe both with the engine and... me lol.

I have three eBay GT3582 turbos and my favorite is my GTS3582 dual ball bearing with a billet compressor wheel. I made 503 whp at 10.2 psi on the JDM J32A SOHC VTEC V6 that was in my 2001 Accord that I put a 2003 Acura CL Type-S six speed manual on. It ran on an AEM Series II 30-6051 standalone ECU. I also have a 1997 EJ8 Civic coupe that has a fully built LSVTEC with an eBay single ball bearing GT3582R turbo (with a .82 AR exhaust housing) that makes 709 whp at 29 psi.

Wow! Nice. The back housing on this turbo is .63. It'll be cool to see what'll it do and what it Peters out at. I'll have more soon. Hopefully next it'll be a dyno day. I need to install my AEM boost controller and N2MB WOT box so I can let the tuner set all that and then we can have some fun with the car.

I really enjoy your channel! I used to ride motorcycles. And I'm floored by the fact that they can achieve 200+ HP on a 1L engine naturally aspirated. Why can't those numbers translate to bigger displacement engines. I know it's physics's at play with mass and all that stuff but still it would seem the engineering has been done why can't someone use their engineering as a template and scale up? There's a motorcycle company called PGM who has taken the Yamaha R1 inline 4 engine and turned it into a V8 using stock heads I believe. They only have it tuned to around 360 HP but it's capable of more. Naturally aspirated 2L. Anyway enough of my ramblings. Keep it up! I might have to follow your lead with my Sonic! Lol😁
@cmattdabrat
@cmattdabrat 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! You're absolutely right about that. I'm guessing short stroke and high RPM to move enough air on the inline 4 motorcycles, but I'm sure the same concept could be applied to larger displacement 4 cylinder engines. Shorter stroke, aluminum rods, get the rotating assembly as light as possible and rev it to the moon!

Sounds like an awesome build! Always wanted to do a Miata. I'm still testing it, but kicks in hard from 5k-8k and lights off the tires. Very much a top end build. Same here. All Maxpeeding from the turbo, waste gate, BOV, rods. Anything I could get my hands on to keep it affordable. I appreciate it! Always have had a soft spot for see what American 4 cylinders can do instead of the same ol, even though those are proven formula's. This just interests me more and it's fun proving the neigh sayers wrong lol.

I believe you problem of the belt is that one of your pulleys is not sitting straight with the other ones. Might not necessarily be your water pump
@cmattdabrat
@cmattdabrat 2 жыл бұрын
True. Could be the alternator, or compressor as well. I could see the water pump pulley wobble though. So I'm going to replace it and see if that helps. These engines are a tight fit, so when installing or pulling them, bumping them into the frame rail happens.

@@cmattdabrat that makes sense. So dumb question only because I have never done this what happens with all of that boost pressure? When the wastegate is set to not open up? Is it still low enough to not give you any connecting rod damage?
@cmattdabrat
@cmattdabrat 2 жыл бұрын
@@davesworld2132 So on an external Tial type. It has a port that goes under the diaphragm / spring, and one on top that keeps it closed. The pressure feed line is currently hooked up under the diaphragm, so when the boost kicks in, it opens it once it reaches the capacity of the spring. In this case it's a 14lb spring. If no line were hooked up, it would make as much boost as it could before it unseated the waste gate valve. If it were hooked up top, it would keep the gate closed and you would get max boost. Without anything hooked up, you would still get the waste gate opening some, but not full boost. Rod bending tends to happen when their torque potential is exceeded. The danger zone for breaking engines / bending rods is at max torque, which is around the 3800 rpm mark. If I had a turbo that kicked in before 3800 rpm, I'd have to be real careful with retarding the spark until it passed that point. In this case, the turbo does really kick in until 5k+. What generally kills engines is torque more so than horsepower and RPM. I hope this helps some.

I believe it's the E78, or E87. I'll have to go back and look. I did have to mess with the virtual torque. I increased it by 30%. I followed a live tutorial by HPTuners on boost. I also had to fail the airflow correlation. Forgot what code, but raised it to over 10k so it wont read it and put the engine into limp mode.

@@cmattdabrat for what they are they aren't terrible cars. Wife's grandparents bought it brand new with less then 20 miles on it. Now sits with 99k. Hasn't needed much either except for the usual thermostat housing failure, oil cooler leak. I have always had an itch to boost it just unsure how to convince the wife. You are the first that I have seen that has boosted a 1.8 so it made me very happy to stumble on your videos. Thank you

Yeah, hard to tell if it's the pump, or pulley. So I have a new pulley on the way. We'll see how it does, and then the pump. Nothing but belt issues lately but we'll get it sorted. I know these 6 groove belts are good, but if something is out of wake, they're horrible. Makes me wish I could find a v belt setup for it lol.
