Yup. She wasn't happy with herself. I don't think there were any super serious errors. But she may have been working on some better techniques, been nervous, and fallen back on the old bad habits.

@@stepanova8Also, that performance probably hurt her a bit, considering the technique she used, and she could tell she did it wrong in some way. Like when I'm drunk karaoke-ing and just going all out to the point where I'm yelling instead of belting and my throat or my head ends up hurting.

I think it's crazy how she's gotten so much better. She literally takes criticism and says you know what, I can work on this and moves forward. She's a bloody hard working icon!

Yes she was very nervous about this and even did get teary eyed with Selena in the front rows afterwards bec she felt the note in the end was bad. Great vid!

You can see at the end of the video how unhappy she is. I’ve always wondered who she saw when she was singing in the round that upset her - there’s a pretty clear transition from when she’s using good technique to when she falls back onto bad habit and muscle memory. 🫤

I think the note that she was upset about is the “you were looking at me” note. I mean, I don’t disagree with her, she did better with that note in the tour documentary.

I'm so sorry fans attacked you for criticising her technique! No one should ever do that, and we should all recognise that the person we adore is simply not perfect, and went through a huge and intensive journey to get to where she is now, and that includes the fact that she, in fact, did not use to be as strong a vocalist as she is now, and a lot of that, admitted by her, was technical training and vocal coaches. Thank you for not feeling discouraged by a loud minority lashing out at you for no valid reason! We love you

It’s funny that you say she’s not nervous, because she was - she always is at awards shows, in part because she’s at high risk of running into people who have been cruel to her in the past.

I wish you have done the one from the tour, it's so much better, she's always (or at least was) nervous at award shows and stuff like this and it shows on the performance, the tour footage is always more relaxed and everything.

Loved! it. Not into all the vault songs but I loved the heck out of the new 1989. The difference is slight, her voice it more mature, the production was a little bit better (Kind of like they couldn't do certain things quite the way they wanted to 10 years ago) but it makes all the difference!

aside from style's weird intro,it was probably my fave rerecord,cuz call me a local but blank space rerecord was SOMETHINGGGGGGG and i LOVE LOVEEE IT (especially the little enunciations that changed aghhh😍) for the vault tracks,i only liked slvt!,the rest are like midnights rejects that can be found through the very bottom of the trash😭

I think because the album 1989 was the first time she really got into the pop scene rather than county music..so that's why her vocals were so different than now

I love how much she's improved now. I would love to see her perform this song again in 2023/2024. Unfortunately she doesnt do this ad-lib belty section in the studio track! But the out of the woods taylor's version is still really good.

About leaning back actually Taylor recognized during her episode on the voice as a mentor in 2019 that doing it is a comfort zone motion that she does, so she knows it doesn’t help with her singing, but it helps with her confidence and psychological

It's so good to learn the technique of the sing with watching your videos.It's pretty hard to hold the breath, while singing "ohhh,I remember", but once you singing "oooo, I remember", sounds so much better, and it's easier to hold the breath to finished that line.

Justin Timberlake recently said that Max Martin who produced "It's Gonna Be Me" told him to pronounce it like MAY. It's how Max pronounced it with his Swedish accent and thought it sounded better. (which is where we get those hilarious memes from.) I thought only Jack Antonoff did the instrumental for this song so I doubt Max told her to pronounce it like that but he's also listed as producer so I don't know. Thought it was interesting.

I'd recommend checking out Dr Gelsey Bell on either Ghost Quartet or This Is Not A Land Of Kings. She's trained in opera and extended techniques so her voice is POWERFUL and her choices are WILD

Honestly, it would've been so cool if she would've done the bridge on 1989 TV like she does live! I was kinda hoping a little bit that it would be like that, but in my heart I knew it was gonna be the same. 😂 Turns out OOTW is one of those songs that came out exactly the same but ELEVATED, a little bit better than the original. 🥰 Tbh, I'm a little bit disappointed Taylor doing the bridge like this only is a live thing and will probably remain so bc I FKNG LOVE IT but maybe there will be a recorded version one day: a girl can dream! 💙

I wish my vocal coach had been as good as you back in the day. I probably would’ve gotten farther, haha. I did learn good diaphragm techniques, though, at least. I consistently belly breathe and I can actually stop my own hiccups because I know how to relax my diaphragm. 😂 Probably helps that I was a super competitive kid and my sister and I used to have hold your breath contests… longest time we ever got was 3-4 minutes. I know this is less about the video than about vocal and breath training, but hearing you talking about those techniques just took me way back. My coach said not to lean like that because that bend in the neck compresses the vocal chords when you throw your head back… Is that actually a thing or did I misunderstand?

I was surprised how much better she was when I saw the Eras tour movie, after not paying much attention over the past decade. One of the things I thought I knew about Taylor from the beginning of her career was she didn’t sound great live. Well, not anymore.
