If Honorius is such an insecure person, why wouldn't he stepped down and just let his supposed brother-in-law and sister to govern the Empire instead? What are his supporters going to do about it since he is the one with absolute authority?
@tiberseptim8434
@tiberseptim8434 6 ай бұрын
Because there is little precedent to an ex-Emperor, so he would always be a contestant to the throne, a thorn in his brother-in-law‘s side. He could be killed for just being a threat that political opposition could rally around.

Only a single emperor willingfully abdicated and lived as a former emperor, Diocletian. And he was a strong emperor that was respected by everyone. Honorius was a weak nobody in a age of trachery. Abdictating would had been likely a synonymous of death for him.

I agree, but unfortunately, the creator of this channel childishly despises Christianity, in case you missed that. So, no kudos allowed for any Christian emperors/empresses. I swear, LARPagans love revising, downplaying, and glossing over world history worse than leftists.

Another wonderful & informative video! At this moment I'm awaiting my order from the SPQR Shop - a ring (Christmas present to myself) and a beautiful eagle pendant for a family member. So far I'm impressed with their quick response and good communication - they wasted no time getting me a tracking number, so I can watch the progress of my package to the west coast of the USA. As a "nerda Romana" (can I say that?) since I was a teenager decades ago, I'm so happy to have found your as well as many others' ancient history and Latin language KZfaq channels. Verum epulum est! Thanks a lot :) Yes, I agree, it is really fascinating how women surprisingly often shaped roman politics, albeit often in the background. There is a lot of material for many more videos of this sort, where we can explore other female figures of the Roman Empire. Theodora will be especially interesting, but so will be Irene of Athens and others :)

Interesting to note that there were no empresses regnant in pagan Rome but when it became Christian there were several - one of my favorites being Pulcheria of the Theodosian dynasty who shared power with her brother. She is credited with upholding the doctrine of Mary as mother of God (Theotokus) and she is supposed to have done this so as to outmanoeuvre the patriarch Nestorius who had insulted her by denying a woman entrance to the holy of holies of a church.Proclaiming a woman as bearing God was a way of demonstrating that the feminine could outrank the masculine.The great Theodora though highly effective was only a consort not a reigning queen.@@Maiorianus_Sebastian

Question: why did majorians generals(agdius,marcilennus,nepos,nepotionus) not team up after his death to overthrow ricimers regime? Leo I did not recognize ricimers puppets and probably would have helped support a coup

I really like your content (facts, your narration), apart from the graphics now feeling like an 80% AI generated art (Midjourney?) slideshow. This gives thing a weird artificial look, especially things in the background. I don't know if I am of a few who don't like this, but maybe you can dial it back or rethink heavy AI art use?

I dont hear any good new historical novels coming rom the anglosphere. I only know fantasy novels, many of them look like historical novels who had beed added magic and imaginary setting just for make them commercial. He, the opossite of the soviets, were fantasy novels had to be dressed as scify. Some far rigth guy said me that latins prefer more realism and nordics the fantay, ffrom at least a thousand years, just see the difference between the arthur tales and the song of mio cid. Here in Spain the historical novels has more favour, and in latinamerica if they do fantasy they do as magical realism. A pair of quite succesful novels of the last years was about Julia Domna. The sisters Julia Domna and Mesa would be good candidates for a video of late roman matriarchs.

Beautiful work, Roman Catholic Christian Heritage, the Holy Wars. You have nice art, in a peace gesture, your epic could show Roman History as Roman Catholic Christianity, they did not have all the excess citizens (dregs), knaves, then. Midgard is the origin world of the Vikings, not God Odin being repeated. So, knowing that, Christianity celebrates the destruction of Evil also, It was Helena of Byzantine the towns name, which was changed to Constantinople, for both Constantine and Helena and all thier Christians and thier Allies, The Vikings, Varangians, etc, So Christianity has its roots in Heaven, with Adam and Eve...Fallen Humans, Fallen Angels, Fallen Creatures, Fallen Noah's Ark, and Ark of their Covenants, hero, Helena and Constantine of Constantinople, Rome, Francia, Germania, area. Constantinople fell to the Ottoman Islamic Empire, Because Christianity, allowed Diversity which to the Islamuc Ottoman Empire, which fell to the Allies in WW2, and remade into Jerusalem, where Rome killed Jesus and resurrectioned Jesus as the Christians Religion of preference. Jerusalem was historically Roman territory all that area, Mecca is Islam, Rome is Christianity, and Jerusalem is Jewish, because thier Jewish King Herod, the True King of the Jews, A Roman Jew, was protecting them and thier Priests, thier family's, thier banks, thier money lenders, etc, from the Christians, and thier allies, Magi, etc., after Jesus teaches, and some listened and wrote (Disciples and others) HOLY war.
