My Grandad raised sheep for a short time when I was a young girl. It was my job to bottle feed all the babies who didn't have mommas. I used to rub my hands through the wool then on my body. It helped keep the biting flies and mosquitoes off me as well as moisturize my skin in the hot dry Ogden summers

@@ferretyluv I know, but as a girl all I cared about was my Arabian and keeping those dang flies from biting on our rides. I do remember my skin feeling hydrate. Grandad boiled the wool, not sure if it was just in water or what, he made different saves for skin and leather, kept saddles soft and repelled rain. He taught me many old ways, wish I remembered them all. Wish I had his spinning wheel, I'd like to make my own fibers for my knitting and weaving

I have learned SO much from you in the past year! Last year, I shaved my long-haired cat because she was too hot and she wouldn't let me brush her. Her shave came out a little rough, but this year, I followed your instructions on shaving. Granted, you shave sheep and llamas and other animals, but the process is pretty much the same. I was able to do a better job, and the shave was much smoother. I'm sure you never thought that your videos would be useful for shaving a cat, but they were! Thank you for sharing! - Molly

Now I know where lanolin comes from! When I was breast feeding the hospital gave me a tube of it and said it will help with any drying and pain. And keep it clean. I had to learn how to do that to give my 2 daughters my immunities and it worked. They didn't get colds and ear infections like a lot of babies. I love watching you. It's amazing that they just bend with you. I bet they feel better when they're nice and cool, especially being pregnant.

@rightchoiceshearing
@rightchoiceshearing 9 ай бұрын
There are a number of factors that go into handling the sheep. The position is designed to keep the sheep calm as long as they are comfortable. Sheep don't try to get away as long as their feet are off the ground and they aren't in any pain. I've noticed that working quickly keeps them from being in one position for too long, thus testing their patience. I also believe the faster they feel the relief from the fleece removal, the quicker they are to relax/trust. Just my experience though. We ask that the sheep are fasted at least 12 hours to keep them from being uncomfortable like we would be after a big meal. Sheep that are full, fight more and thats been the link as to why. The breed of sheep makes a big difference as well. I sheared some Scottish black face and one sheep got up on me 6 or so times. ( Ill share that video of Cammy from The Sheep Game and I after I slow down in life a bit.) Also, show sheep like to fight more as well. They have been bred to be body builders and are shorn standing for the ring. These breeders do not care if they are breeding shearable sheep, just what they look like in the ring. This can lead to injury for shearers. I actually gained most of my skill on these brutes so I think myself lucky for becoming a better shearer and not a broken one. As opposed to the popular belief, the "pet sheep"/"bottle raised" are typically the hardest to shear. They act as if they are offended that we would treat the prince/princess of the barn yard like the other sheep. The wildest of the group usually sits the quietest. Long story short, yes the position is designed for the comfort and control of the sheep, but keeping them in it requires skill and care. Thank you for noticing. 💞🤘🏻
