Sheed and Bonzi passionately agree with Charles Barkley that the coaches in the NBA get too much blame and ultimately it's on the players to come up with the plays to win the game. Coaches can help, but the bottom line is the players making the difference.

Basketball is 90% players, 10% coaches and management. If they win, we celebrate the players because they did 90% of the work. They deserve it. BUT if they lose, we blame the 10%?? Nah! AD and Lebron have been disrespecting Darvin all season long, disregarding his calls then all of the sudden, they blame him for not making the right plays for them? What?

Its because when things go wrong you got to blame SOMEONE and change something. You're not going to blame the star player unless you want to get rid of the star player which you probably don't. If you believe in the team you're not going to blame the GM because he built the team. Thus the coach is the only option left and like you're said they're 10%.

It’s like when people tried blaming coach Spo or Ty Lue for Lebron’s failures. Always gotta be a scapegoat, even though 95% of plays by most teams these days are just improvised by the players - or 1 guy iso’s and everyone else just stands around watching. Coaches have way less impact now.

I agree with Bonzi. The plays and analysis is for structure and preparation for what you will likely see on the court and how to handle it. But things on the court don't always follow the script and you need to be able to adjust. That's what you're getting paid for. And even when they do, you have to execute. It defeats the purpose of drawing up the gameplan if those exact situations happen in games and the players fail to execute.
@brutallyhonest3574

Fair is Fair. The Coaches may be cowards for wanting to be liked by the players but so are the analyst. These analysts on television, they're also scared to call out Lebron James for having yet another coach fired from the Laker's organization. Despite his stats, Lebron the one not doing his best in the fourth when it matters. Most bus drivers would be first to admit blame but not him. Why is the narrative always to let him slide?

A lot of these stars don’t wanna be coached. Darvin wasn’t a great coach, but with LeBron getting in the way of EVERY COACH HES EVER HAD, how do we know? You can’t even let him implement a system because he’s got his hands tied behind his back. You do one thing LeBron doesn’t like, he starts chirping to the other teammates and bringing you down. Not saying LeBron is a complete coach killer, but really you need to start looking in the mirror, but you’re about to be 40, so I think it’s probably too late.

When the Raptors' won the chip, Nick Nurse was a first year NBA head coach. Thing is, his coaching staff was mostly the same as the coaching staff from the year before. Nick Nurse was the lead assistant for a very strong organization that had major assets all over the coaching staff. Dwane Casey wasn't even a bad head coach, it's just that he was on a team that was stacked with good coaching. Also, Masai had an ability to attract talent to that team. It takes a long time to put together that kind of organization. Swapping out the head coach doesn't usually solve the coaching issue, if that's what you think it is. There's no easy fixes on this one.

I've always heard coaches deserve more of the blame in football but when it comes to basketball, baseball, and soccer it's really a player's game. Yet in the NBA come playoff time everybody tries to forget that because all of these stars are grouped together but aren't winning titles. They have the best players so it must be the coaches. Forgetting that real dynasties of the past were built over long periods of time and stayed together over 5 seasons or more.

Teams/Organizations that build teams for longevity and not for today are the ones that are successful right now. Minn, Denver, Boston, OKC, Miami. These teams have allowed their coaches to coach and they have built their teams with the draft and an occasional FA or trade here and there. Always trying to land the big star or put together the big 3 has ran its course. The league salary cap structure now, only allows for 2 max contracts (50 mil) for each team with a cap of 136 mil (141 mil in 20-25) and there is a luxury tax if you go over 178 mil. Meaning - if 2 players are making $50 mil each, your squad has to add 10 other players using about $36-40 mil - then you are paying a luxury tax. Well if 2 players are making $50 mil and 2 players are making $20 mil - you are reaching that luxury tax b4 you fill your starting 5. A lot of teams are trying to stay under that tax. That being said, if you have 3 max players on your squad (ie Phoenix) you can only fill your roster with role players. In the case of the teams mentioned above, bc they have built their teams via the draft, their players have grown within the system, developed chemistry and even the role players are good and they only have 1-2 big contracts and some moderate mid level deals. You also have to allow a coach to come on a develope a culture/expectations and that’s hard to do in 1-2 seasons. Players have build chemistry with one another, understand tendencies and execute. If a team is riddled with injuries that could take longer to everyone on the same page. However, if a coach comes in and they don’t win right away, they get fired and the process starts all over. There is RARELY a coach at any level that walks in and wins it all in year one! Doesn’t usually happen!!!!

I think that in sports in general, a lot of players will look at the coach and think, "well he was never as great a player as I am so why would I listen to him?" Well the problem with that is that coaching and playing are two very different things and just because somebody wasn't the best player in the world doesn't mean they can't be a great coach (and when you go down the list of the best coaches of all time in any sport, the overwhelming majority were not previously "great" players).

Coaches are blamed too much, but they also get too much credit sometimes. Coaches generally aren't any better then the talent that they are coaching. You can take any coach out of history and give them the roster of the last place team and they are not going to win anything with it. Coaching matters, but only so much. Talent matters more. Coaching might come into play a little more when both teams are supremely talented, then you might see the difference in coaching. But if you have a losing program, it's not the coach's fault. Unless it's like college sports or somewhere where the coach is also responsible for the talent

The Lakers organization has unrealistic expectations for their head coaches. This is going to be their 7th head coach, since Phil Jackson left coaching back in 2011. So l would imagine a lot of the coaches interviewing for the job will know that they will probably only have the job for about 2-3 years realistically. Honestly, I don’t think the Lakers are in the position to win a championship without some major changes to their roster given their best player is turning 40 years old later this year.

Lol when do you blame the coac6? Notice when they say don't blame the coach all they're talking about is going 1on1. You can't just do the same thing over and over and beat good teams. They're also saying win in spite of the coach. How about you get a coach that can do his job so you don't have to do it for him smh. So i guess no one should blame Doc Rivers for anything but they do. Including Rasheed Wallace lol

These star players WANT these coaches they hand picked, then when it doesn't work out, it's the coaches fault. The coach is making 5 million a season, you as a star player is making 25+. Take some blame, that's why the league is watered down now! Too much entitlement

The thing that bothers me about the players from my generation is that they have all conveniently forgotten all of the mistakes they made when they played. They don't remember arguing with their coaches and getting many of them fired. They don't remember the innumerable times they played lazy, missed boxing out on a rebound,or throwing stupid passes. This is the evil of social media. Everybody puts on a black robe and grabs a gavel. People who have never studied a subject, never practiced a discipline, never competed in competitive sports but they're all expert's who eagerly sit in judgment of those who actually mastered those things. Rasheed Wallace was a lazy, big mouth, undisciplined, argumentative player who routinely missed assignments and regularly cost his team because he was threatening the refs. He spent more time trying to be an enforcer than mastering his craft. The same goes for Bonzi Wells. These old heads have selective memories. If they were playing today, they would find out just how athletically superior the players are today. As I've said, it's easy to critique and criticise those you will never have to compete against.

Doc has a track record. Look at his teams. He’s not a good coach. Too many teams have had the same outcome with Doc.

If a coach has success they’ll say he’s getting carried. If the team ends up sucking they’ll blame the coach. Lmfao.

Coaches get too much blame. players get too little blame and GMs get no blame. When in reality they are all to blame. It should be 35/40/25. players, GM, Coaches. With that being said Frank Vogel and Ham are average coaches. does that mean they should be fired. no. but.. What are the team expectations. And the GM.....

100......todays players might be more athletic in general but they LACK BASIC FUNDAMENTALS......the 80s 90s and early 00s teams were far superior because they were fundamentally sound

It’s not but why do you even need a coach if they don’t impact whether you win a loss. It’s like your boss telling your fired and you say well I don’t do anything anyways well that’s the point why your fired

Chris Paul for Bradley Beal was a terrible trade. Last year the Suns lost in the 2nd round to Denver in 6. No structure no leadership just a beta male small 3 taking turns shooting 3s We all know AD and Queen James are divas not even gonna speak on those black women 💀
