I repotted one with piece of bed plank and gave it to my oldest human seedling. It gives me a good excuse to visit her once a week. I bring 4 liters of rainwater for her fussy plants each time. It's beginning to look good in her little home. She told me that she spends more time there, now that it feels like her hyggelige childhood home. Plants can do amazing things to ones wellbeing

I've had the green/yellow mold in my lipstick plant. I was ready to give up on it, until I found an old book called: my plant is sick. It told me to put some rusty nails in the soil. It actually worked. It's still not that bushy as yours, but it's doing much better!

I noticed that the new leaves were babies. Fortunately, I don't hack the mama up too much, so it's okay. I had a monstera in a pot outside that had a giant aerial root (maybe 4 ft), and I cut that section to propagate. I've just planted the mama under a tree, and I'm excited to have it climb up like the pothos and syngonium do around here. I popped the cutting in a giant vase, and that giant root didn't fit lol. I also have some cuttings that I've left perpetually in water, and it's cool to see the roots and new leaves through the vase. There's a reason Monsteras are so popular 💚

Another issue with having multiple plants in one pot and not managing them properly is that one or two will grow really well, and end up overshadowing the rest. I repotted a very cramped monstera a few years, and even tho all the stems reacted very well to it, some of them ended up beneath the biggest leaves and not growing as well. They pretty much end up competing for light and nutrients as they are not really sharing like one single plant would. So I think 2-3 plants at max and making sure they all get proper positioning and light is key to get good looking and happy plants

If you can't provide drainage, airate with a pencil so the roots are still getting oxygen! Second, if your pot is otherwise ok for the plant, you can take a drill and drill a hole without removing the plant, the counter pressure of the plant pressing on the pot should prevent the pot from breaking. Similarly some ppl will submerge an empty plot and drill it when it's full of water for the same counter pressure. If you're going to do that though, make sure you've got a suitable backup pot just in case! I've 3 in my pot and i know i should separate them but then i see the largest of them and think I'll need to get s second home for them if i do.

About your beautiful big Monstera in the orange plastic pot - you could possibly just drill the holes without moving the plant and find a big saucer/plate/tray to put underneath. I'd think the damage to the roots would be minimal, but totally worth it.

Hi there! I'm an old plant lover, but had to limit my plant life desperatly for much of my adult life for various ressons. I've recently become a plant parent again & FINALLY got my own Monstera. I've wanted one since childhood!! Supposed to be deliciosa, but idk. The pot had 5 juvenile plantlets, so I believe they were mere seedlings. Anyway, she's been w/ me for just over a year & she's done well considering our lighting isn't great.(IDKY, but I've had little luck w/ plants in this house since I moved in!) Seems remember you saying yours is 6 ft from a window, something else a few feet out, etc. I had her about 3 ft from a south facing window, on top of a stack of stereo speakers. Recently, i got cheap lights from Temu. Don't know if they work yet. Then a couple of weeks ago I had to move her for a minute & dropped her! 😱 One broke & much of the soil at the top poured out. What should I have done right then? What I DID do was to put the broken one in water & had two 1 inch roots within a week! I replaced the soil the best I could & tied her to a small moss pole. A few days ago, one of the smaller plants which didn't get re-covered deeply enough to stand solid, broke just a hair below the soil, so she's in water, too. The main plant(s) seems to be "OK" but nothing like she was. A couple of leaves were damaged & I believe will die, but otherwise she's just weak & wobbly. Do you have any advice for me? How long must I wait from seedling to fenestrations? I'm impatient b/c I'd like to see some before I die! Same thing for my epiphyllums blooming! I'm 67 & in poor health, sooo.... Plants & books are "my thing"! OBTW, IDK whether you have experience w/ cactus, I don't recall seeing any, but I'd appreciate tips if you have any! I ordered large, thorn free prickly pear pads this Spring, for outside. They've been laying on top of dry potting soil but haven't put out roots. Do you have any idea what I might be doing wrong? This seems to be a problem for me w/ most succulents. I do as I read, but most cuttings shrivel up & die before roots show up! Am I just too good at ignoring them??😁 Thanks for your time & for putting out your videos free for folks like me! I love to watch them! Lee's as well! I sure appreciate you!
@SheffieldMadePlants

It can take a few months to start seeing fenestrations. Depends if it’s got enough light which sounds like it does. If the original plant is in a bad shape it’s probably best to focus on the cuttings you’ve made

I remember our monstera before we moved. It was nearly 2qm in the old place. It had the PERFECT spot. We had to move house and the plant got cold and we couldn't find the right place and in the end it started dying. I cut it down and gave it to a doctor at the clinic I work. It has a nice corner in a bright büro and seems to recover after two years now.

It was emotionally soooo hard task to do, but I had to get rid of the two top leaves of my Monstera. :( They started yellowing, since it took me too long to give it a bigger pot. The roots literally started to escape the pot. Reason: warm autumn temperatures here in Finland and my summer flowers just bloomed and bloomed and the pot they were in, was ment to go to my monstera after removing summer flowers. Well, it is still interesting to find out how the Monstera will start to grow. It wont reach the roof too soon, I quess. Eventually I need to cut it again. Will be too expensive to move to a location with higher rooms. :D

Great video Sheff! 2 monstera questions; now I know you use the self watering stakes now, but when you were watering, did you let the monstera dry all the way out or keep it moist? I've heard conflicting info regarding this. Also, whats your hot take on monsteras liking to be root bound? Do you keep yours tight or let it groove? I recently had repotted my lil albo into a pot 1-2 inches bigger than the root ball...and in 5 weeks that sucker was so rootbound in its new pot i had to upsize already! Seems repotting that much would be detrimental? Thanks again for all the info mate, your wisdom and humor have made me a better plant parent.💕

Have you ever tried removing leaves? Not dead ones. Don't cut it. Hurt the plant by ripping the leave out from the stem. This damage encourages the plant to produce side baby offsprings.

I was really surprised when after not watering my indoor monstera for a few weeks, it put out a giant leaf with tons of fenestrations. It goes to show that they really don't need too much fussing over. Granted, I live in the tropics so it has plenty of warm, humid air to thrive on, so results may vary. The only thing I regret is buying one that already had a sideways growth on one of the main stems, so I have been trying to deal with that as it is trying to grow on the corner of the room walls 😂 Said beautiful new leaf is on the sideways stem.

Hi I have the monstera( swiss cheese ) plant growing in a pot inside and growing up a support screen in my entrance lobby. Problem is it has become tall but sparse leaves on it. I want it to be tall but how do i get the stem to grow enough leaves with shoots spreading everywhere? I want a monstera cover. I get light from my double ceiling windows some 20 ft away

I have a monstera that I purchased a few months back. It came with 3 full leaves, but one of them was split on one side, and the spine snapped in the middle, a second was deformed and produced another deformed leaf. The plant is green and healthy, with no signs of dying. My question is, do I cut the broken and deformed leaves off (if yes, where) or leave them?

Your voice sounds deeper here are you well? All good points here per usual. But the part that demands the most world-wide attention is, why can't somebody make inner pots with drainage holes, that fit perfectly inside outer decorative pots with no holes, that you want solid, where you don't have to drill holes and deal with unsightly shallow watering trays underneath?
