If you want any plant to flourish in water, don't forget to fertilize with a full spectrum hydroponic fertilizer. Regular liquid plant fertilizers are not sufficient. I grow a lot in hydro and also love displaying my snake plants like the way you did in this video. So cool!

After reading that they can grow in water, I transferred mine to water as an experiment, no pebbles or lecca, just water. 6 weeks on and all pieces are looking healthy and growing new roots plus I now have two pups. All i do is change the water weekly and give them good light (i haven't added any fertiliser yet)....I'm curious to see how long they'll survive.

Left mine in water for 6 months before changing it like once a month and it was fine. I was shocked how durable it was in water. Although growth all stoped about 2 months In I’m assuming cause lack of soil nutrients. They where still healthy after 6 months and whent crazy when I planted em.

I have mine just in water on a south facing window for 6 months now and they are doing amazing! The roots had completly covered the bottom in no time, the first pups are now almost as big as the parents and there are new pups everywhere. One of the first pups even grew a flower! I’ve never even seen flowers on these plants before!

Ok. The idea seems to be nice and even innovative, but keeping the plants directly in the water with the rocks or gravel is the solution for the people who have the time for taking care of it. The water becomes unfresh very quickly. The stones absorb the bacteries growing very rapidly in this unusual environment. So regular water change and the rocks cleaning is a must if we don't want the plant to die.

You could also used colored glass containers - dark brown, deep blue, and dark green - to avoid algae growth.

This makes no sense imo. As soon as the roots grow around the pebbles the only way to get the plant back out is to break the bottles / vases, or you'll risk tearing off the roots. It's why plant pots are wider at the top if anything, not narrower.

I've been growing one in water for several years and now I want to put it in soil but some of the outer leaves are limp. It's never done this before and all the other leaves look great. What could be causing this and what should I do when I transplant it into soil? I've put off doing this for quite a while because it has such a small root system, hoping the roots would grow larger and stronger so once it's planted in soil it won't fall over.

Might just be part of ageing and shedding some leaves. Discard those, pop into soil and it should be ok
