I went from a 17 GT350 to a 19 GT350R and I definitely feel the differences in the R. To me they are more apparent and not as nuanced as your described experience. Here's a quick list. Clutch spring heavier, suspension firmer (standard mode now feels like sport mode did in non R car), feels more planted, lower ride height, exhaust is definitely louder, steering tighter, ride smoother (cup 2 and CF wheels play a big role in that). I was quite pleased to feel such a different experience. The R is more daily-able than I expected and all of the excuses I made for buying the non R over the R originally are null and void. R to me is truly an upgrade over the non R, pre 2019. I haven't driven the 19 or 20 non R. I will also add that after driving the 2020 GT500 at the Vegas Ford event, the R feels closer to the 500 than the non R, in my experience. Great video. Thanks!

You going from 17 to a 19 is different but a 2019 or 2020 GT350 and GT350R are basically the same and this is what “AutoFanatic” is saying and I agree with him. You will have to compare a 2019/2020 GT350 and GT350R to understand that they are basically the same exact minus the obvious. But a 2015-2018 GT350/GT350R does not compare to the 2019’s and 2020’s GT350/GT350R.

I've have a 2018 GT350 and a good friend of mine has a 2020 GT350R and they both feel the same to me. I know the 350R will be a tad faster on the track because of the wheels, tires, and other small updates though. The GT350R does sound louder when you switch from quiet too loud exhaust though.

I have a 2017 GT350, and would love to upgrade to a ‘19 R but I don’t think that improvement is worth the cost for me. Seems like that’s about right, improvement but marginal. The CF wheels are nice but I’d be swapping out a cheaper set for most daily driving, CF for events.

I picked up a 2019 GT350 and I love the way it drives. I've only been in Normal mode and 80 miles later I am ecstatic about driving it every time. It seems VERY responsive to me, but I haven't been in any other 350/350R for comparison. I think those Cup 2s have something to do with it. I have another street wheel/tire combination coming in 6 weeks with Michelin Super Sports so I will let you know how those compare. They may have tuned it better for the street AND the track. Love it so far!

Sold my 16 350 for a 17 R. Definitely feel a difference- stiffer over bumps, and grippier (mostly tires, would be my guess). Love the R, don’t regret it. The carbon fiber wheels panic me daily... don’t want anything to happen to them. And I rub the front splitter on almost every drive.

I took delivery of my 19’ 350 a few months ago not realizing the amount of changes to the suspension and motor as well. Apparently the 2019 generation 2 Voodoo motors carry over upgrades from the Predator motor in the GT500. Having driven a 16’ 350, I can say the 19’ feels much different. My 350 darts all over the road so it must be those carbon fiber wheels or the knuckle swap they did. So glad to see you enjoying the car though. I own one of these partly because of your content!

I went from a 2017 GT-350 to a 2018 GT-350r. At first I didn’t notice much of a difference. However, after about 6000Km of hard driving the differences did become much more noticeable. It was even more so when I drove my friends regular 350 after having put a few thousand KM on the R. I think you will notice the differences much more after some seat time. I sure did. Great channel and thank you.

I had a 2015 anniversary car(Wimbledon white), 2017 gt350(magnetic), and now have 2018 gt350r(ledfoot grey). I loved them all and completely agree about the differences. The 350 and 350r are very similar. My 2018 gt350r does tramline. It darts around just like the 350 did. I’m so grateful and lucky to have had these cars and totally agree with you as well as the gt500. I would just get a Ferrari 458 with low miles for 150k over the 500. When I first bought the 350r I had it fully wrapped with suntek ultra along with a ceramic coating on top of it. I run with a bunch of exotics and now have 4K miles on it without one mark on it. Totally worth the 5k for the piece of mind! Best of luck with your new ride!

It's a bit late commenting on this video, but I just came across it. I bought a 2019 GT350 that was built in May of 2019. I've been in a 2019 GT350R that was built a few months earlier. I couldn't tell a lot of difference in them from a mechanical feel. The R does feel a little lighter in how it reacts, a lot to do with the wheels I suspect. I chose not to go with the R for two reasons, the back seat and I wanted the heated and cooled seats. After having the car for only a few months now the only regret about not getting the R is the long term value of it.

So I have a 2018 GT350. I'm haunted by the Motor Trend video where Randy Pobst said you'll love the GT350, just don't drive the R first. So I test drove a 2019 GT350R. What I felt and describe is. If you had a sharp knife. And someone handed you that exact same knife just sharpened. That is the R. It just feels a bit sharper in handling. I feel most of that is the springs and Carbon Fiber wheels. I love the Kona color. That is the color combo I have. Kona Blue with white stripes. I've considered a few times of trading to a R of the same color. But I can't come to grips with the trade in loss. I also have free oil changes and "lifetime" drivetrain warranty with my current car. I would lie if I still don't think about trading up to an R. Your comments on the improved steering knuckle on the 2020 GT350R makes me wonder if that is the car I would want. It is only on the R that has the improved steering knuckle from the GT500.

I just pulled the trigger Yst on letting go my 2016 GT350 tech pack. For a 2020 GT350R with the new Grabber green white stripes. I also feel the same as you. You only live once. I didn’t want a GT500. I am purist with the way history repeats itself with Ford. They won’t be making any of these manual cars naturally aspirated anymore imo. I honestly can’t wait to get it. I think it’s a good thing the car is not all over the place during normal highway driving. What mode were you in? Was it in sport or comfort? That could also be it? But I think on the track the 2020 will be where it separates from the 2019 R.

But you can adjust it if you want it more twitchy. Solid rotors are better. User friendly is better. Period. You can make it that way. Good luck on it. Camber and Caster plates. Glad you provided the tip to stay away from Motorcraft motor oil. Amsoil. There are some new oils out there better than Amsoil.

You talked about tramlining a bit. I had 1994 Mustang Cobra wheels on my 2011 Ranger XLT Supercab 4 years ago for 10 days. The tramlining was terrible and the pull to the left under braking was scary. I own 2004, 2009 and 2011 2 wheel drive Rangers and all three have had the pull to the left under braking problem. Since there is no factory camber adjustment available in them I think that Ford dialed in some or maybe too much left leaning camber to compensate for the crown in the roads as we drive on the right side of the road. I bought an aftermarket upper camber kit from a company in St.Paul Minnesota but I haven’t installed them yet. I’ve been told that there are aftermarket lower ball joints available in which you can adjust camber and caster. Otherwise these Rangers are very reliable.

Following for the opinion as well, not sure I love the res delete proposition that comes standard w the R... I feel it takes away from the deeper pitch and instead turns into a raspy less appealing sound... at least for an American muscle car.

The fact it doesn’t tramline is a big plus and there were complaints by owners of previous models so apparently Ford fixed that. “Car and Driver” reported that the drive was better as fa as overall ride quality
@r32446
@r32446 4 жыл бұрын
I have the GT 350 (2019) model and I agree with you that the car is very quiet during idle. But when I pop to sport mode, the exhaust kicks in good. Also, the tramlining is there, but not as excessive and I can easily drive with 1 hand. The car doesn’t have cross drilled rotors and so the brake is smooth and quiet. It stops on a dime. And I don’t think it is your carbon fiber wheels, but the newer suspension and changes to it. The car is amazing to drive. Do the first oil change at 500 or 1000. If you’re not going to use Amsoil, I’d like to know and if it meets Ford spec. I got the GT350 only because I needed the space to carry my golf bag. I can’t do it with the R and they are essentially the same car except the seat delete and carbon fiber wheels. But I found a set for $6500 for a set of 4. But I still rather get the aluminum block wheel. Carbon fiber will crack if you hit a big pot hole and repair is insane. The weight difference isn’t much difference than the after market wheels. Plus I prefer the seat with cooling and heating. Recaro is too uncomfortable when I drive for hours, which I like to do. I also drive my car daily. I would definitely say, get PPF and install those oil separators. I’m glad you are enjoying this awesome car.

I'll just add that I bought my 2019 GT350 in March 2020 from the dealership (Race Red w white stripe), which was the car's only owner after Ford. It had 111 miles, so I am assuming that it is a "late model year" 2019. I have nothing to compare it to it terms of tramlining, but it definitely seems to tramline, less in comfort steering mode perhaps, and I certainly would not feel comfortable taking my hands off the wheel on anything but a perfectly flat road. That said, I put 1600 miles on the car in the first week just driving around (probably better check or change that oil), It's midnight in Chicago right now and I am being called to take the car for a ride. I just can't stop. I have a million questions about driving the car, especially about shifting and at what RPM people typically drive at. I've become adept at rev matching, but only downshifting from 6th to 5th to 4th. 3rd is rocky and 2nd to confusing with having to stop and brake. I look forward to heel-toe rev matching, but for now I need better shoes or smaller feet or something. I also am embarrassed to admit that I am still not wholly satisfied with how I get started from a stoplight and smoothly get to third gear. One thing is for sure, I am having an absolute blast learning to drive the car.

Ford should have never caved in and softened up the R model. It should have never been made available with the touch screen, upgraded stereo, option to have a rear seat. Remember the early 15/16 R's? No radio, No A/C (although I think A/C was always optional), No touchscreen. They really should have kept it that way. The R's have always been the stripped down versions going back to 93. Ford really became a sellout by trying to increase the sales of the R's. They also should have severely limited production on them. Like you said, very very similar to a regular GT350, and a lot of it has to do with being able to get all of the same features in both cars....That's my opinion anyways. I'm sure you're definitely enjoying your R with all those options though! Looking forward to more vids on the new R

One question on break-in. What do you recommend to keep the revs at? I've heard a lot of different opinions and the manual just has a reference to the first 100mi and 1k miles. Seems like under 4.5-5k RPM is safe. Thanks in advance!

As of 2019 the regular GT350 clutch spring is totally different too. Its yet another base 350 & 350R MY'19 upgrade. Your tracking/tramming could simply be the dealer's setup of the adj camber plates. AFIK other than adj camber plates the 19R did not get any other front suspension updates (the new knuckles etc come for R's in 2020 along with a higher cost). Great review - agree on the tylenol & back care needed (same). Nothing is "toned down" - its refined and faster - ask Billy Johnson.

@@outforaripper Michael I have come to the conclusion to sell my R, i have not connected with this car since delivery it is so toned down that I keep coming home and missing my red 2017 I sold. I was expecting a much more sharper engaging experience its just not the same as earlier R models and I find myself cruising in the car instead of enjoying it as expected. I am buying another awesome car next week and have the intent of finding an older R soon. I can not justify having a GT350R to drive with 2 fingers on the wheel blasting a loud stereo cruising over the pavement. I even notice the engine tone of the new version of the 5.2 does not sound the same as the first gen or rev out the same as others have also told me which may be due to the heavier engine block and other parts they beefed up. If you can not connect with the car no matter what its time to move on they say.

Mayyyybe from within the interior with the upgrades you mentioned, but from the outside, the difference in sound level from the resonator delete is night and day, both in quality and volume (imo). Bottom line I’m not a track enthusiast and only drive back roads and cruise. I saw your new 2019 and was impressed. I ordered my 19 with the handling pkg. When it came in late summer (9 month excruciating wait) my philosophy was configure/prep it as ordered including the adj camber option installed & aligned. I had some concern that for street use it might become a liability (alignment) but so far it looks ok not that I have many miles on the car but I did have them recheck the alignment before putting it away for winter and after a couple hundred miles and it was nominal as set up for street. I'll look through my notebook for the align setup printout & send you a pdf if you give me an email link. FWIW my dealer thought once the adj. plates installed that the ride seemed to him harsher at least in slow speed driving it around on the lot. I looked at the component differences and the adj version is more material around the upper strut bushing bearing so I could believe it higher equiv durometer from a road to chassis NHV standpoint. I have a bad lower back but so far I've not found it to be a hindrance to enjoyable back road drives (and we have crap roads up here in New England). Worse case I could always swap it back for the cost of the labor & alignment. So far it & the gurney stays. Cheers.
