Pretty sure that joke was Hawking approved. He had a pretty good sense of humor about his disability, which you would almost have to have in order to cope. He pretended an interview crew accidentally "unplugged" him once.

I think his point was more about how even if Hawking was okay with it, there are other people with disabilities who might not be.

THIS, i too have a disability that I feel I can derive comedy from, and dislike the idea of people going out of their way to NOT be offensive like that, "it's okay, you can laugh, it's funny" as a certain Avatar character would say, and it's fun to laugh at yourself

YES, do Young Sheldon, it is adorable, and you get to see the dynamics of his whole family. Annie Potts is Mee-Maw, you would remember her from the 1984 Ghostbusters as the secretary, and the younger mother of Sheldon is played by the actual real-life daughter of the actress who plays Sheldon's mother, and she looks so much like the older actress it's uncanny

12:29 Amy was basically a Sheldon clone in her very first episodes, and imo she is a much better character now that she has her own personality. 15:39 In a lot of ways I've enjoyed Young Sheldon more than TBBT. They are very different kinds of shows, though. I recommend either starting YS during TBBT Season 11 (which is when it aired) or waiting until after TBBT. Either one could work.

This without a doubt was my favorite episode. Both Amy and Sheldon was able to do something fun together and had their first kiss, so after this episode, you can pretty much detect what was coming. Also, to comment on what he said at the end, I think it's a combination of both, as far as what Sheldon found interesting about the kiss. You can see in the first season that Sheldon was a little open and he called Penny attractive a couple of times. But then they changed his character around for comedy reasons. So yeah, I'm definitely digging the Shamy vibe🙌🙌

Everyone has to take a chill pill about this. In all of my history of watching anything and I am 63 years old, no-one EVER was offended by humor like this generation is. Hawking was happy to be part of this show and he himself loved the jokes about him, as you will see later down the line. Back in my day you were told to grow a pair to deal, and people did not have hissy fits about small things. I think it's great to laugh at yourself and that is what is portrayed here. All I am doing here with you is to show you how we all were brought up. You want to see real offensive behavior that everyone in their day loved, try watching the Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason, that is the real rabbit hole of offensive attitude, but everyone loved it.

I reckon Hawking was annoyed with everyone getting offended for him. Simon Helberg (Howard) made a joke about it on a talk show - saying that he was scared to joke about Hawking at first in case he *stood up* and hit him. And people complained a tonne. But Helberg was friends with Hawking and knew Hawking enjoyed that sort of humour.

@@nowthatisawesome5431 especially considering that this is the entertainment industry. It's meant to make fun of all forms of the human condition, that's how we learn as a people but society today would have us ignore those issues, pretend as if they don't exist, by trying to censor everything and pretend it's all okay. I like the 30s to 00s film industry, not because it was discriminatory or sexist, I do agree that there are things that should be done away with, especially within the industry, but I liked it, because TV and film could go as far as it needed to, writing wise, nothing was off-limits, so to speak, so you could tell stories without being shamed for it. Nowadays, we're in the age of political correctness, and reboots, trope storytelling, nothing is original or impactful anymore. Not saying there's anything wrong with these ideals or styles but they shouldn't be a factor when it comes to storytelling or writing. The stuff that is problematic and where things like discrimination and sexism should be abolished is more to do with behind the scenes drama, but with today's people, everything seems to be a trigger, especially with the onscreen end product, which it shouldn't be like that, because if we cannot be honest or true to the stories we tell, then there's really no point in any of this, but people want to be angry about this and that, because they know that when such stories are told, they reveal more about the kind of monsters that human beings can be, and therefore we censor such things today because we don't wanna confront the truth about who we really are, and we'd rather pretend to be saints by claiming political correctness and such ideals in entertainment and all other aspects of creative work. As a disabled person, I can attest to the fact that none of us would like to be coddled and I have actually enjoyed much content that have had similar commentary on disability. I laugh at things like this and it makes me happy. What I don't like is people who think they are being respectful, when all they are really doing is just being more offensive at best. I like writers who are not afraid to tell the story they want, whatever the subject matter, I'd respect you more for poking fun at something than trying to treat me as if I'm an egg that shouldn't be dropped. I'm just as human as the next person and I wanna laugh at my problems just like the next person. People learn and grow more that way, than saying, "oh let's respect this demographic by not writing anything that might be construed as offensive to them" tell me the story and let me decide for myself, for goodness sake. That's why these days I tend to ignore Hollywood more and more and tend to focus more on what the rest of the world has to offer, because those other non-Hollywood places still know how to tell good stories without pretending to think that they are respectful of all peoples, cultures, identities, etc

I like to think of this episode as karma. Back when Sheldon and Penny were feuding and he had her beat, Leonard gave her the idea to tattle to Mrs. Cooper. Now Amy gave Sheldon the idea to use blackmail to threaten his best friend's relationship for his personal convenience. Which teaches that playing dirty is always the best way to win, also Sheldon may not deserve friends.

I hope you react to 'Young Sheldon' along with TBBT! When I first heard they were doing a young Sheldon show I cringed (one of my least favorite things is smart ass kids in TV sit coms) but it turned out to be MUCH, MUCH better than I had envisioned. If you do end up reacting to Young Sheldon, I hope you watch it alongside TBBT in the same way that the shows were originally aired - Season 1 of YS aired simultaneously with season 11 of TBBT; YS season 2 alongside TBBT season 12 (the show's final season). The TBBT Series Finale and the YS season 2 finale aired back-to-back and, although not technically a two-parter or crossover episode where you have to see both, the two episodes are meant to work together and they do so beautifully!

OMG - you actually still think that Trump mocked that reporter?? 😆😆😆 Dude, that was debunked a long time ago! Where have you been?? Geez! 🤦🏽‍♀️ There was a ton of video footage of him making that exact same gesture regarding OTHER people who didn’t have any disabilities at all. It’s a gesture he frequently used at that time. It’s no different than if I were to commonly use the phrase “what are you deaf?”....and then one day I just happen to say it to someone who actually IS deaf without knowing it. Oops! You can argue that the whole ‘making fun of anyone for any reason’ is kinda rude or whatever,.... but that’s a separate argument. The specific accusation that Trump mocked a reporter is simply not true at all.

Trump *did* mock a disabled reporter (Serge Kovaleski, whose arthrogryposis causes him to have the kind of bent wrists that Trump used when supposedly imitating groveling). Whether or not Trump _also_ used those hand gestures when mocking people who weren't disabled doesn't erase his mocking of Kovaleski.
@nowthatisawesome5431
@nowthatisawesome5431 Жыл бұрын
@@theadamabrams Nope. While it’s true that the particular report did have a disability (no one is denying that)....that’s not what Trump was mocking. The proof is that he used the exact same gesture when previously mocking other people. Those people didn’t have any kind of disability so that’s not what he was mocking. He wasn’t using it as a gesture for the disability itself. I already explained - it’s no different than if I were to (hypothetically) constantly use a phrase like “what are you, blind?” without meaning it literally.....but then one day I say it to someone who actually is blind and I wasn’t aware. It hits different in that scenario and while I wasn’t meaning it to insult that person, I could see how it would easily be misinterpreted. Again, plenty of footage out there that proves it regarding Trump. Maybe do your homework before you just believe the little clips that most of the corrupt media will show you along with their spin. I’m guessing you won’t even bother, because you don’t care about the truth. You have already made up your mind, and actually researching something is not a thing you will bother with. It’s okay, continue to believe lies.
@theadamabrams
@theadamabrams Жыл бұрын
@@nowthatisawesome5431 I have done research on this. I've seen the videos from Catholics4Trump showing Trump using similar hand motions in the past. I get that. But the claim is, "Trump mocked a disabled reporter", and that's true whether or not the mocking was intended to be about the disability. To be honest, I am open to the idea that Trump was not intentionally referring to Kovaleski's disability when he mocked him. It's entirely possible that he was just _generically_ being a jerk.
